- Halloween in NYC Greenwich Village 50th Annual Parade.

In 1975 to 1983 for up to a decade, the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade was more of an artsy cultural and neighborhood community event. I have memories after trick-or-treating with scary costumes going from door-to-door during the early hours of the evening, thousands of us masqueraders would follow the tail end of the Greenwich Village Halloween Parade which would start at lower Manhattan's "Theatre for the New City" in Westbeth and sometimes Bethune Street traveling through a maze of Abingdon Square marching down Charles Street to West 10 Street and ending under the Washington Square Park arch where giant sized devils and demon props scaring the heck out of masqueraders would release a ray colorful balloons into the park's large fountain where the parade would eventually end with thousands celebrating.
Fun, memorable and exciting times back then as a kid in NYC!
Since 1983 to the present, the annual "Greenwich Village Halloween Parade" has become more commercialized and the special event by News stations worldwide covering the full 2-hours and had taken a new route starting at Spring Street in lower Manhattan with masqueraders marching uptown on Avenue of the Americas (6th Avenue) to 22nd Street while onlookers are barricaded outside of the parade.
Thanks for Watching!
