Hello Mike, I have a few very common phobias, but the one that really baffled me, was the one involving underwater, man-made objects, such as propellers, underwater pilings, from old wooden docks, etc. Anyway, as a teen, I discovered this weird fear of mine, while out boating with my dad. I was too embarrassed to discuss it with anyone, until I came across it on RUclips recently, and realized I share this phobia, with many others. It's called submechanophobia, and, just like you mentioned, fears are a very real thing, to those who actually experience them. Much success to you on your extremely interesting videos! Greetings from N. Kentucky!
It's great to see you all back. Also I knew a person who had a severe phobia of any and all bugs. They would start panicking if a fly landed near them.
With me it's a fear of bees which I Define as anyting that flies and has a stinger due to getting stung right next to my eyeball when I was about five years old
I just discovered you Mike, and am now addicted!!! For quite some time I suffered from gyphyrophobia, a fear of bridges. I could easily drive over them, but couldn't walk across even the smallest.
Mike, I've missed you so much!!! I've been watching daily since you've been back. Life feels right again. For me, I found out I have trypophobia, a fear of clusters of holes. Ones found in nature specifically trigger me (wasp nests, honeycomb, that weird brown plant thing that looks like a wasp nest, etc.) but not things like bread or sponges. Triggers make me feel itchy all over and overall extremely uncomfortable. Even in my nightmares I'm wake up throwing myself across my bed to get away from it. My therapist helped me trace the source, and it's because of an article my mother showed me when I was a tween (thanks for the added lifelong trauma, mommy dearest)
Our daughter has a terrible fear of the stomach virus. It puts her in a panic if she hears that someone close to her has had this problem or if she finds out she is in the presence of someone that has had any type of GI tract issue. She seriously goes into a panic and will be in a tailspin for three day, which is longer than the stomach bug usually lasts. She can't control it whatsoever. it's debilitating and I as her Dad, hate it for her!
Thank you for this list. I have apiphobia (stinging insects) and another zoophobia. When people you know don't take your phobia seriously and decide to tease you about it or put you in situation of your phobia for fun, can seriously terrify you. Please do not do this. You may not understand it but this is real for some people. Ablutophobia can be caused by watching "Phsycho". I know people who refuse to use a shower after that.
Welcome back Mike, missed you. So I am an adult and I’m still afraid of the dark. This is probably the most embarrassing one and the one I don’t admit to most people. Once I am in bed, and I know the lights are all turned off in the house, I’m OK as long as I’m not near the edge of the bed. I thought it was very interesting about the fear of not being able to leave somewhere. I have this feeling when I ride an elevator, especially by myself. I usually attributed it to claustrophobia, which I also have, and has gotten worse since I’ve gotten older. One last comment: what about all the people that come home and need something on like the TV radio etc. Are they actually uncomfortable with silence?
I have a fear of mosquitoes! I have an Strong Allergy to the bites. I was bitten by more than 100, and I had to wash the bites in bleach. The bites became infected and I have scars on my ankles. I really Freak Out if a mosquito gets inside my house, especially if the mosquitoes are large!😱😱😱 I also have a Fear of Clowns!😱😱😱
I have Epilepsy. I had a horrible seizure at my local grocery store. I was taken away in an ambulance. Without looking at my medical alert they thought I must be on something. I was tested for everything... even given a spinal tap. Now I have an intense fear of grogery stores. The one down the street I have not been in in 6 years.
Ablutophobia is also common with Autistic children and adults. The bathtub environment can be overwhelming, bright, shiny, cold, and sound is odd in a bathrub too. I am an adult with Autism, and I ahve a terrible time showering. It's debilitating, honestly. From fearing I'll be interupted by my cousin/roommate, to fearing running out of hot water, to feeling the spray on my skin is irritating for me, and it IS, I have to carefully select times to shower, and put it off as long as possible. It is crippling and I feel silly, but it's so hard to just go for it. I also have trouble eating, another sadly commont trait for people with Autism. I should not even be alive, I eat so little. It's very hard to explain too. Sometimes I am able to eat daily for weeks then I simply stop for weeks. I'll snack, or force myself to make a sandwich, and eat once a day only even when I am able to cook and feed myself. It IS a fear, but one I cannot point out and say "This is why." This is made worse by being Bulimic in my teens, and then overfed by my former husband, who wanted me to be too fat for anyone to try and take from him. So, food, not my friend, in my own mind at least.
31 yr old with autism here. I'm not sure if it's the same with you, but if I'm not hungry for something, I can't eat it ie I can really only eat if I'm hungry for a food (or type of food). I can be starving, but if nothing on the table matches what I'm hungry for, I can maybe only stand a bite or two. I also have a hard time eating in front of people unless I'm really comfortable with them
@@brohen YES, same here. I can only eat once a day usually, and I monodiet most of the time besides. The act of cooking is literally uninspiring and if I cannot be alone in the kitchen, I WILL NOT COOK FOR MYSELF... [that's meant to be Italics, not a shout.] I dislike eating with people, tho I have good manners and am not likely to be stared at... I feel you!
Wow so interesting, I am in the processes of getting an Autism diagnoses and I also only eat about once a day. I LOVE food but HATE the feeling of being full, so I eat a lot when I eat, but don't do it very often. I also really like to make my own food and go so far as to pickle my own pickles and make my own pasta sauce from scratch because nothing from the store tastes right. Also until I was about 20 I used to eat with a napkin in front of my face unless I was eating around family, I really didn't want anyone to see me eat. Even now I know at least 24 hours ahead of time what I will eat and sometimes up to a week ahead of time.
@iknowchristalena I love cooking for others but have a hard time cooking for myself, so I tend to eat terribly, lol. I also hate having people I don't know well see me eat. If I try to eat in public, I tend to lose my appetite after about two or three bites.
So great to have you back!!! So the only phobia I deal with (and it's got to be one of the most irrational) is mottephobia. Yep, I'm terrified of moths and butterflies. They make my skin crawl. And oh my gosh if one happens to touch me. GAH....
My grandmother was terrified of butterflies see what happened is she had a little daughter and her mother they both died in the winter time and right before they died she said she saw a black butterfly hovering before both of them so yeah dude they can be scary
When I was younger I was terrified of butterflies. I was in my teens when I was finally able to be outside around them. When I was little, maybe 4, my mom sent me outside to play in our fenced in back yard. Our yard was always covered in butterflies because of all the flowers we had in the yard. Well my mom locked me out & wouldn't let me in. So I stayed by the back door for a couple of hours crying until my mom finally let me in...and from that day forward I was terrified of butterflies. It wasn't until after I had lots of therapy that I was able to get over my fear. Now I am terrified of bees due to getting stung & almost dying. Although the humor isn't lost on my family & I over my fear of bees. My name, Melissa, means honey bee, & the fear of bees is called melissophobia...lol
I have a really weird one not on this list. As long as I can remember I've been intensely uncomfortable with anything but a wall or significant empty space to my left side. There is "Sinistraphobia" but I think its more like "Levophobia" because while I am very strongly right handed I don't have any particular aversion to left handedness or left handed people.
I have a very specific version of this, only discovered in a natural history museum in front of a display of a frog hatching hundreds of babies from its back. I was beyond horrified and felt genuinely nauseous.
First off, welcome back Mike. Ok so when I was first watching horror movies at 17,I got into watching East Asian horror. This also included watching the American remake of the Ju-on or Grudge series. I definitely developed a fear of being in a shower, long hairs and mirrors. I've matured and gotten over them but I can definitely see how some people might have those fears.
I have an extreme fear of electricity. I have such a hard time plugging things in or unplugging them or turning on or off the light switches. I hope that someday, I can get over my fear of electricity because it definitely holds me back in life. I sympathize with anyone who has a crippling phobia like me because it's really no way to live. I'm currently seeing a therapist about other things and I'm hoping that she can help me get over my fear.
I am 74 and I have that showering phobia. It is of being wet. Cold or hot. I noticed it after moving up north from Arizona and Florida. Not sure why? I loved swimming and bathing until my move back to Indiana in 2005. Also thanks for the Nomophobia, I believe it is an addiction cause and wondered how long it would take to be recognized. Now I hope to catch the 25 list of what you been doing. 🎉 glad you are back. Missed your videos and your wit.
I have somnophobia. It stems from a deep fear of having nightmares, caused by extreme PTSD, for me at least. I also have day-night reversal issues, which is a circadian rhythm disorder. I take two antidepressants and a large dose of melatonin to sleep. It is a struggle to convince myself to take said medication, because I know it leads to falling asleep. I have panic attacks knowing that it's time to sleep. I procrastinate until I'm exhausted and usually my "days" last more than 24 hours, which leads to a constantly rotating sleep schedule. Even after I take my meds, as I feel them start to work, I panic. I have to fall asleep with both light and noise around me, as a distraction.... like, listening to videos like this. XD Eventually, the meds just push me over the edge, and I wake up not even remembering how hard it was to go to sleep. I'm constantly tired, though. Like, 24 hours a day. I talk and move around in my sleep a lot. I just never rest well, and when I DO have bad nightmares, it's even worse. I don't think most people even understand how bad nightmares can be. Imagine being chased by something that you know is literally going to murder you, and you are supposed to be somewhere that you can't get, at the cost of severe punishment. So, not only are you running for your life, but you know that even if you survive, your life is OVER. Say, for example, you are in the military (a common theme in my nightmares, from my service in the Navy), and someone is chasing you to kill you, and you were supposed to check the watch bill as soon as you got on board your ship, and you could be missing a watch right now and you don't even know it, and you can't find your uniforms, and again, someone is trying to kill you, and you are running... and then you are trapped, and they are almost to you, and there's no way out, and you feel this for what feels like HOURS. You won't ever understand that terror until you've served...
I'm glad you handled this topic with a reasonable degree of sensitivity to the respective sufferers, which may be more than is commonly done. In reality, the whole language and paradigm of phobia as a social phenomenon, needs to be redone. Thanks for not adding to the existing stigma.
My phobia: wet paper. Not sure what it’s called but it’s real. People ask me why... I tell them I can’t rationalize an irrational fear. Also, glad to see you back!
You know there is one phobia that wasn't mentioned that deserved a spot. And that one is this. Masklophobia: A specific phobia used to classify a general and in some cases an irrational fear of masks, people in costumed clothing and mascots which is common among toddlers and young children. The common cause for masklophobia is not known.
This, among with kyrofelonoshophobia (fear of cartoon characters), sanguivoriphobia (fear of vampires) and a couple of others I learned of while double-checking things are why I'd argue that fictofabriphobia may not be a phobia it's a bunch of them instead...
Love your series bro, quite informative and interesting. I'm not a perfectionist in any sense of the word, but your editor misspelled 'perfectionism'. That's all, and do keep this series up!!
I definitely have a degree of kenophobia. The first time i really experienced it was when i traveled with friends, and when i got out of the car, i looked up and felt like the sky was gonna swallow me whole. It was the first time i saw the sky so open and unobstructed. It looked like it could go on forever. I gasped and pressed myself up against the car. Literally took my breath away. Luckily, no one noticed, and we got into the house quickly. But man, my heart was pounding, and i felt so unsafe. It is definitely an odd feeling. Same thing with open fields or the ocean. I just get so uneasy and nauseous
23:34 I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), but it’s not a fear of everything, per se. It’s constantly feeling anxious or worried for no particular reason. Kind of a permanent sense that something bad is going to happen. It’s not fun. The stress alert on my watch goes off all the time.
Glad to see this channel back! I don't if anyone has heard of it but I have Trypophobia the fear of clusters or hole patterns. Not officially diagnosed but I Googled it and I have all the symptoms or most when I see a cluster of holes.
Not even joking, when I was a kid, I had a friend whose little brother was deathly afraid of Dr. Claw from the Inspector Gadget cartoon. I found it absolutely ridiculous since we only ever saw Dr. Claw's arm, but this kid would run out of the room any time Dr. Claw spoke or his arm was shown on the TV. Fair enough he was like 5 or something, but still, it was weird.
I had zoophobia as a child. I was afraid of dogs and cats. If you owned one I refused to step foot in your house unless you put it away in a certain room. Fast forward to me as an adult now. I’m the owner of Great Danes. I also want to pet every dog I see and rescue every stray cat. I think it’s safe to say I grew out of it.
I was so happy to see omphalophobia on your list. I have been aware of my omphalophobia only since my late teens. I don't care about seeing them, but I am terrified of seeing people touching their own, touching other people's, touching mine, and I can't touch my own. When you pulled your shirt up I freaked out, just in case you touched yours on camera and had to listen rather than watch until you moved on. I have other phobias, but this is the only one I give into. As a result, my children all have deformed belly-buttons, because I couldn't take care of them properly when my babies were born. I disagree with your reasoning as to what we're afraid of. In my case, I'm not afraid of belly-buttons ravelling. It comes down to non-consensual penetration that I can't control, so more likely to do with trauma and PTSD. Two years ago, a student of mine found out about this phobia and rubbed his belly button on me in order to get what he wanted. I was clothed at the time, but my boss didn't care. He received three day suspension due to physical and sexual assault of a teacher.
I used to be needle-phobic, but once my endocrine system broke (I have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis), I had to have so much blood drawn as my endocrinologist figured out the number of micrograms of thyroid hormone to take, and then find one where the fillers used in a specific brand (there are so many brands and so many different fillers, including one that’s suspended in gel or oil or something) that would effectively interact with my thyroid. It took nearly a year and was a TFN!
I suffer from ablutophobia. Mine stems from childhood abuse. I also have a fear of two fictional characters so I was surprised that was the fake phobia.
I have gephyrophobia-a fear of bridges and thanatophobia-fear of death. Honestly ,I've gotten used to the latter. However,my gephyrophobia interferes with my traveling. I live in a city where you have to CROSS a bridge over a creek to get to any side of town so I usually just stay home or avoid walking over said bridge. I also have acrophobia, but it's something I've learned to live with.
Mike i have medical problems that will eventually kill me i may not see my next birthday im 41 and it was a miracle to see it but im not afraid of dying im more afraid of going through my medical stuff alone..but were not guaranteed tomorrow were barely granted today you make the best of what God gave you and take each day one step and one breath and one prayer at a time and enjoy the life you have especially when dealing with medical things..so with that said I honestly enjoy your lists some of them and your shenanigans on here really brighten my day 😊..you and Tristan always cracked me up like a clean version of Beavis and Butt-head.. please excuse my lack of punctuation my eyesight isn't the best and take care and God bless 😊
Out of these, I have multiple forms of zoophobia (particularly spiders, wasps, bees, hornets and crane flies, and then some others to a smaller degree), as well as thanatophobia and coulrophobia to some degree. I had all of these fears way more when I was younger. My family has some weird fears. There's common ones like my dad's fear of heights and my mom's fear of mice, but almost everyone in my family has more unconventional ones. My mom is afraid of toads, and I've seen situations that make me suspect my oldest sister has a bit of a fear of birds. My other sister has a phobia of fruits and cannot touch, let alone cut or eat fruit... which was a major problem when she was training to be a teacher for young children. As for mine? Time to embarrass myself. I have a massive fear of thunderstorms, and being outside during one will absolutely make me panic. I also have a big fear of dolls. Not only is there a room in my grandparents' house dedicated to my late grandmother's doll collection, my sister makes and sells small dolls of her own that I struggle to look at. My grandma's dolls are definitely far creepier though. This doll phobia also played a role in me getting a phobia I have of witches in some occasions, specifically of witch dolls and statues. It happened when my family convinced me to shake the hand of a witch doll in my grandparents' house, and its eyes lit up in red and the doll started cackling. That moment scared me so much that I'd have dreams on an almost daily basis with the witch in it, most commonly one of it chasing me through my grandpa's house. My grandpa had to move it out of the living room when I came over for many years, and part of me wishes he'd still do it because I genuinely still cannot look at it. After an incident where I cut a gash in my pinky, I have a bit of a fear of opening cans (the ones you have to pull on and the whole top comes off) as well, and physically cannot bring up enough strength while pulling one open anymore. I also have a pretty big fear of fires. Even candles make me a bit uncomfortable. And to start the two most embarrassing fears I have, I suffer from a probably relatively mild case of koumpounophobia, which Steve Jobs apparently also suffered from. Now what is that? It is a fear of, or in my case more so a really bad discomfort around, buttons on clothes. For me personally, it doesn't occur with every single type, but most types do trigger it for me. I have no idea what gave it to me because I've had it for as long as I can remember, but it seems to be associated with autism, which I do have. It fills me with feelings of disgust, like the article of clothing is dirty. I really never mention it to anyone due to how embarrassed I am by it, but my family does know, which is cool because they pick out clothes with that in mind. And then my other one. Take sensitive ears; I hate loud noises and dread them all the time. Add to that an aversion to being startled, things that catch me off guard because they were sudden and unexpected. Combine those two and you get a perfect thing for me to be infamously afraid of: church bells. I cannot stand them. As a kid I was unable to walk past a church without covering my ears and even to this day I find it hard to do, even if I know the bells won't ring. It's gotten better over the years but the uncomfortable feeling is still there. This fear also makes it so that church towers feel significantly more imposing and tall than other tall structures. Am I aware that most of these are very irrational? Absolutely. Do I feel embarrassed? Most definitely. Do I expect people will judge me for these? Yes. But I have them nonetheless. Feel free to ask any questions about any of these, because I know a few of them are rare. I've never met anyone else who suffered from the last two.
I also am autistic, and loud noises do bother me, but I'm not necessarily afraid of them; thunder when it's super close by, though, really startles me, as well as something heavy nearby that falls onto a hard surface... I'm also sensitive to bright lights any brighter than a phone or computer screen, especially the sun. Doesn't mean I'm afraid of those sources, though, thankfully; they just bother me sometimes... Certain textures through touch get to me, too, which makes me picky about what I eat, walk on in bare feet, wear, touch with my hands, etc... Dolls do slightly give me the creeps, mainly due to the lore behind the Chucky and Annabelle characters, but I grew up playing with dolls, so they usually don't bother me... However, one of my big fears is arachnophobia, most definitely, as well as a fear of insects or other creatures that can hurt me... If any one of those things get near me, I freak out, though only if confronted with the real things; I'm okay with fake ones or just pictures or vids of them... Another one that really gets me is the fear of speaking, acting, dancing, singing, or just being in front of a bunch of people staring at me, or even just one or two people, for that matter... I start stuttering, look around nervously, then just freeze, or I may burst into tears from the stress, too. One more thing: I think I'm also afraid of anything that's related to any kinda horror stuff, like gore(I'm _really_ squeamish...), paranormal that's realistic, jumpscares, you get the idea... On the other hand, I can handle stuff that's slightly creepy yet still kid friendly, like the movies Nightmare Before Christmas or the Hotel Translyvania movies, or the Monster High fandom(the original, not the remakes)... 😉
@@jcfreak4ever1 I'm not exactly afraid of loud noises, it's the combination of knowing I could be startled and that it will be loud when it happens that causes the noise-related fears. And with thunderstorms the lightning is an added factor.
I realize this was over a year ago now, but I share that fear, and wouldn't laugh at you for having it, either... Been stung way too many times... Not an absurd amount of times through my life like fifty or more, but around at least three separate times... There were likely at least a couple other times when I was growing up that I got stung by a wasp/hornet/yellow jacket, but I can't remember any specific instances besides those three... Regardless, though, they really hurt, and those times sure gave me apiphobia... Mosquitos, though, I'm not afraid of; I'm just really annoyed by them, and they seem to really love biting me when I'm either outside or one or more have snuck in the house during the warmer months... They just really _bug_ me... (See what I did there?? XD) As in my previous comment from over a year ago, I also suffer from arachnophobia... If I see one outside, or one that's snuck into the house that catches me off guard, I totally flip out! If it's small enough, like dime size(legs and all) or smaller, I'll kill it myself, but otherwise, someone else has to do it... Yeesh... 😖
@@jcfreak4ever1 I was scared of them long before I ever got stung, and even then that's has only ever happened to me once; by a bumblebee. The insects just scare me anyway. Mosquitoes aren't scary to me either. They don't have the things that make some other insects scary. I actually don't like killing animals, so if I see a spider somewhere that I could kill, I just leave it be and try to get it to leave naturally by leaving my bedroom door open when I'm out of the room or something like that.
11:01 No, other phobias are not related to a fear of death - at least not for all people. It’s a fear of pain and/or suffering. Even a person who has no fear of dying and even welcomes it can still have phobias.
I always say for everything that is on the planet, there is one person who is afraid of it. I have Anxiety and Panic Disorder and specifically telephobia. Every fear should be taken seriously. I actually had problems getting into a clinic a few years ago, because I couldn't call myself (you had to call every morning to see if a bed was free) and had my roommate call for me instead and the clinic (yes a mental health clinic) said there was no such thing as telephobia and if I didn't call myself I couldn't be admitted. (Luckily I was a returning guest and knew the head doctor, I was in within the week) and I also suffer from an intense fear of Bologna (don't laugh the smell of it is enough to give me a panic attack and yes it is a childhood trauma), going down stairs (yes I go up the stairs but take the elevator on the way down, also afraid of elevators, but I find usually one fear is stronger than the other one and that decides the course of action) and cockroaches (I swear I had a full on heart attack last time I say one. Couldn't sleep right for a month) I am constantly checking to make sure I haven't lost any jewelry. I check at least 4 if not 6 times before I leave the house that I have my keys, I am afraid to cross the street and will scream if a car gets within 50 meters of me. I can''t smoke around water because I am afraid to get my cigarette wet, washing a wine glass is stress pure (I am sure it is going to break) and on top of that, anytime I have a passing thought like "oh that's not in a good position, it might break/ fall/ ect" I must act on the thought, even at 3 in the morning.
I have a few phobias, but the one I get laughed at is driving. I’ve never had a license. I can operate a car, as long as there’s nobody else on the road, but if another car appears, I pull over until I disappear. I had an intense phobia of feathers and birds, later found out I’m allergic to feathers.
I think most people are afraid of death. We really don't know where we're are going, if anywhere. But we are going somewhere. Energy never dies. We lose are vessel (our bodies) but we still exist. Don't be afraid!
I have Hoplophobia, (pronounced [ˌhɔpləˈfoʊbiə]), from the Greek hoplon, or weapon, is defined as the "fear of firearms" or alternatively, a fear of weapons in general, and describes a specific phobia.
I have the pickle phobia. My friend got really drunk and ate a bunch of whole pickles and threw one up in my sink. No one would take it out and Draino wouldn't desolve it. That was 40 years ago. I'm still freaked out if I get one impaled to my burger.
Glad RUclips suggested this post. As I haven’t watched a List 25 post for quite some time. I didn’t know You Mike were back at the channel. I look forward to seeing more of these posts in the future…… ⚛️☮️🌏
I developed a new phobia later in life. I found myself in criminal legal trouble ad was arrested and taken into custody. Unfortunately I was also the victim of mistreatment while in custody. As a result I am now afraid of Law Enforcement Officers. Everytime I see a Squad Car or a Uniformed Officer I get a chill running down my spine. A real nice addition to my Claustrophobia.
Sidonglobophobia- Fear of cotton balls, especially the sound they make when squeezed or torn apart as well as how they feel. I actually know two people, my ex and my aunt, who have this phobia. I thought it was so weird that my (now ex) boyfriend was afraid of cotton balls, then years later I found out my aunt was afraid of them as well.
I am a Lab Tech... I swear some of my coworks have this as they refuse to refill the cotton balls. I know my nephew (my birthday buddy) can't stand to touch them... I on the other hand suffer from apiphobia (stinging insects). I scream and run whenever I see one.
I have submechanophobia. Wikipedia: Submechanophobia is a fear of submerged human-made objects, either partially or entirely underwater. These objects could be shipwrecks, statues, animatronics as seen in theme parks, or old buildings, but also more mundane items such as buoys and miscellaneous debris. If I’m swimming in water, I absolutely cannot touch anything such as the underside of boats, buoy chains, ropes or anything unnatural. I can’t swim next to things like piers/metal structures and I’m also afraid of swimming next to the wave machines in swimming pools 🥲
lemme contribute here w one of mine: emetophobia, fear of vomit/vomiting. it's def affected my daily life in mostly small ways, as I get panicky if I even think about it too much, and the anxiety makes me nauseated so that never helps lol. it's just gross and unpleasant and a torturous experience all around. I'm pretty sure it stemmed from either a few vivid school memories or my bout of influenza at age 6
I don't want to say what my phobia is, but I almost unalived myself multiple times this spring and summer over a phobia. When the phobia is really extreme it's completely disabling when you're exposed to the thing you're phobic of. Your life falls apart, it's just horrible.
I have a fear of large dogs, not dogs in general (except I avoid long-haired dogs due to allergies). I'm always afraid of them jumping on me, even just in friendship. I also get nervous about not being in water I can't stand in, over five feet, most likely because I have a hard time floating or treading water (I only float naturally on my stomach). I also used to think of myself as "people claustrophobic", that too many people in too small a space ratcheted up my anxiety, and I also hate being singled out, like a spotlight is on me, it makes me so anxious. I realize now that it's due to being introverted and socially anxious, but I DON'T hate people, I just prefer smaller crowds or have more space apart from them. The space of one person standing between us helps immensely.
My mom was bitten by a rattlesnake as a child, back before antivenin was a thing. Luckily, it was just a glancing blow, but she was really sick and the experience left her with a severe snake phobia. Actually, salamanders, worms, my pet rat's tail, anything snakelike. But by her early 70s, she worked hard to overcome it and even once picked up a snake. (It was very cold and couldn't respond to her.) Sometimes I don't think she had a phobia, which is an irrational fear.I think she had PTSD from the experience of being bitten by a rattlesnake during an Era when there wasn't medical treatment available for such things.
I knew someone who had the Pickle Phobia and was willing to talk about at lunch one time at work. She said that pickles look like fingers and olives look like eyes in formaldehyde. She said her phobia started in grade 8 when they first where shown two different jars to be passed around the room containing fingers and the other was tongues. But the greenish color and some of wrinkling of the fingers and tongues is what stuck in her mind. After that she couldn't eat pickles. Things like pickled peppers that the brine is more a off white- yellow and the peppers retain their bright natural color don't bother her. But olives and cucumber pickles are the real ones that completely cause a Phobia response. This seems like a mild thing and not much of an issue because initially to those without this Phobia, it seems like "well don't buy pickles". Except that many buffets, banquets, pot lunch events, seminars etc include trays of pickles. This can cause great anxiety for people with this Phobia to the extent of not attending or have panic attacks if it is a mandatory work function because often you cannot opt out. Pickles are pretty much a common item in restaurants just like cheese and can be found in your food that you may have ordered but is not explicitly listed on the menu. Most people do not have pickle allergies so restaurants may not list that the dish you order contains pickles. Sometimes they are used as a garnish as well. For people with this Phobia, they often either have to explicitly ask the waiter if any pickles will be present but others eating with them may have plates of food with pickles. This often results in these individuals to not want to go to restaurants and they can develop an additional fear of being asked to go to restaurants or other food related events further interfering with their social life.
Agoraphobia is real but was incorrectly defined. It is NOT the fear of being trapped because trapped is exactly what an agoraphobia is. It is fear of crowds or wide-open spaces. Generally, it is the fear of leaving the house. My agoraphobia actually came in handy during the lockdown, because I was able to commiserate and help people who felt trapped by being stuck at home deal with their issues. I also didn't have to explain why I never went out anymore.
Tubariphobia - The fear of pickles 🥒 While Josh shudders at the thought of something soaking in pickle juice for too long, the interviewee finds solace in the preserving powers of pickling.
The phone addiction…that’s how it feels for addicts when they can’t get their drug BUT, if someone loses their phone they’re just gonna freak out until they find it. Addicts will freak out they can’t find their drugs but also go into withdrawal. So imagine not finding your phone, you’ve ripped everything apart, your house looks like a tornado hit it, you are begging people to help you but everyone is turning their backs,, you’re starting to sweat and get pains in your stomach. The sweating gets more and more and now you are going between the chills and being hot, sweating through your clothes. Your whole body aches and nothing you do will help at all. Your stomach is now rumbling nonstop and now you’re starting diarrhea. Now you’re at the point that you just lay on the bathroom floor because you don’t know what’s gonna come out of where and when. This is a real experiment doctors have done to people. They take their phones for undetermined amount of time. The scientists know how long, but the test subjects don’t. You may be able to find the video on RUclips. It really made a lot of people understand a little bit better of what addicts go through daily. It’s NOT fun.
Both of my daughters have a phobia. My oldest has a phobia about the word "knee". She doesn't like to say it, hear it or see the word. My youngest has a phobia about cotton balls and the cotton found in medicine bottles. She also can't stand to hear the sound if someone walking in snow
I have a weird phobia; Gephyrophobia. Fear of Bridges. It stems from an innate fear of heights, and a fear of deep water. Ironically enough, I’m a truck driver, so I can’t avoid my fear.
I have an insane fear of pipes. I cannot go in to crawl spaces, attics, even shopping centers that have exposed pipes or I will have a massive panic attack. I’ve never heard of anybody else having it and I don’t know exactly where it stems from but I know it developed when I lived in Germany.
Omg. I actually have clinically diagnosed somniphobia. I have extremely severe night terrors which are caused by diagnosed PTSD. The longest I have been awake at once, was 6 days. I usually sleep about 10-15 hours per week. I am legally disabled because of the severity of my Agoraphobia. Its so severe that last time I talked to my physiatrist, I was explaining how I'm beating myself up over not working working right now. She told me, very point blank, there is absolutely zero possibility of me being employable, because of the level of my disorder. Its absolutely nothing for me to to not leave my apartment and not speak to anyone for up to 2 months straight. Agoraphobia is the most messed up and hardest to understand of all disorders in psychology. I don't really fear money. I just absolutely detest it and everything it stands for.
Acrophobia is my weakness. Getting up on a step ladder about 4-5' off the ground can paralyze me. Funny, I found out in my 30s that it's a common reason many folks take flight lessons. But it didn't work for me. I'm fine as soon as the ground is few hundred feet below and kinda unreal. then we came in for the landing and I started categorizing the various rocks at the end of the runway, determining which ones could rip landing gear off, etc. (I had unusually keen eyesight before my arms suddenly got too short and I learned that I need reading glasses.)
I’m a needlephobe, but more specific I fear the sensation of getting poked or stung. If I’m numbed somehow beforehand I don’t care. It’s amazing how many doctors and nurses don’t try to understand that :/
I am one of these people that suffers from Somniphobia. It's not a strong fear but as someone who has had episodes of sleep paralysis and insomnia and night terrors...it is scary. Really scary. I once suffered from sleep paralysis 4 times within a month. It got so bad I wouldn't sleep until my body fainted from exhaustion. Thankful I haven't had an episode of that since last year, but I suffer from night terrors almost daily. Wake up screaming but no clue what I dreamed. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
I have automatonophobia: the fear of human-like figures, specifically pedophobia (the fear of dolls). My parents dropped me off at my aunt and uncle's for a night and I was forced to sleep in my cousins' room, with ALL 4 having porcelain dolls. I never felt SO anxious in my life: I was afraid the second I fell asleep, I was dead meat! I was SO GLAD when morning came!
11:22 that's what it is for me, I've lost a lot of people in life.. both parents, my sister when she was 13, a child... Numerous friends.. it's not easy
I have a phobia of pipes/plumbing that extends to pumps, air ducts, and any of the things attached to those ducts. I've had it as long as I can remember but I have no idea why. I have yet to find any official acknowledgement of this existing or any name for it.
Similarly to coulrophobia and fictofabriphobia, masklophobia is the fear of masks or any sort of costume that conceals the wearer, like a mascot. I wonder if there is a phobia for the fear of humiliation or the fear of unwanted attention/being the center of attention when you don't want it.
I think phobia is a misnomer in some cases. It's defined as an irrational fear. Like someone even saying there is snake in the house and a panic ensues in someone who is afraid without any evidence this is even really happening. They might sweat, scream, and run away without needing to confirm there is a danger. Saying someone is phobic of poison, heights, or being run over for example, would be silly. You SHOULD be afraid of dying so if a real threat presents itself, you aren't phobic, you're surviving. You have instincts to help you avoid danger. We just need to redefine phobia imo. Some are very rational fears.
I have a colleague who has an intense fear of walking through underpassses. He literally runs through them. He fears that the overpass will fall on him. it's called Gephyrophobia.
SEVERE ophidiophobia here (raising hand). I am mortified by snakes. Even garden snakes. It took my kids years to talk me into go into the herpetarium at the zoo, and even then I hyperventilated and ran out the first 5 times. My big brother was arachnophobia and I kid you not, he once shot his refrigerator because there was a spider crawling on it. (he didn't live near anyone).
You guys are back on List 25?? Best part of the channel.
We are. Check out our other recently released videos.

List 25 is the best part of the List 25 channel? What am I missing here lol
@@DavyTwoHandsMike left and came back
Hello Mike, I have a few very common phobias, but the one that really baffled me, was the one involving underwater, man-made objects, such as propellers, underwater pilings, from old wooden docks, etc.
Yes I have a neighbour who suffers from this. No back yard picnics for them!
Phobia of blood sucking bugs like lice and bedbugs, yuck!
With me it's a fear of bees which I Define as anyting that flies and has a stinger due to getting stung right next to my eyeball when I was about five years old
I had a fear of Mike from List 25 not coming back on RUclips but not anymore.
Gonamikeaphobia.... horrible phobia
Yeah
Lol nice
Mike has nine lives.
Love seeing you back Mike! Perfectionism misspelled lol 😆
I just discovered you Mike, and am now addicted!!! For quite some time I suffered from gyphyrophobia, a fear of bridges. I could easily drive over them, but couldn't walk across even the smallest.
Welcome and glad you're enjoying our videos!
Mike! So glad you're back! I missed the videos and your witty remarks and jokes.
I’m not scared of hitting that like button
🤣
Meh, I get it. Bad things can happen in the dark. The fear of the unknown.
Happy to see you back Mike. All the best to you post COVID. And happy to hear your soothing voice.
Thank you kindly!
I noticed that when you lifted up your shirt to show us your belly button you had red splotches on your skin. Are you OK?
I have a fear of mosquitoes! I have an Strong Allergy to the bites. I was bitten by more than 100, and I had to wash the bites in bleach. The bites became infected and I have scars on my ankles. I really Freak Out if a mosquito gets inside my house, especially if the mosquitoes are large!😱😱😱 I also have a Fear of Clowns!😱😱😱
@@melissacooper8724
He has psoriasis. He mentioned it in one video.
After post COVID? So after after?
Sorry, had to give you a hard time.
Lepidopterophobia. I have the same phobia. I hate butterflies and moths. HATE them.
I have and always have had trypophobia, it gives me chills to look at anything with a clutter of small holes like bread, sponges even froth on beer
Hey Mike the weight loss looks good on you buddy. Glad to see The List again.
Would have been hard with this during Covid..
This phobia would have been a nightmare during covid mask requirements
A few phobias I have
-bugs
-clowns
-heights
-death
-Mascots
-snakes/lizards
-Hockey skates/blades
-Robert Stacks voice
-Loud noises
5:21 As a young kid; I thought it was possible for a belly button to come untied. I don’t recall being terrified of it, but it was a scary thought.
Great to have you back Estrin. You're looking great.
Glad to see the return of the youtube list king!
Love your series bro, quite informative and interesting. I'm not a perfectionist in any sense of the word, but your editor misspelled 'perfectionism'. That's all, and do keep this series up!!
Or was it on purpose.....? LoL
I suffer from agoraphobia and social phobia., and aquaphobia. I've had therapy for all of them.
Keep up the positive progress. I've found that the years of therapy have been freeing.
As a kid I didn't fear the bath I usually feared the drain as it was dirty nasty down there.
DrainOphobia
Yay, you’re back!!!! I’ve missed you!
Missed you too!
Love watching List 25. I always learn something new. I myself am afraid of the ocean, open water. I've seen Jaws to many times.
We love you!
am so happy yall are back this was my favorite channel
XD)
As in my previous comment from over a year ago, I also suffer from arachnophobia...
❤ So happy to see you back!
So pumped you're back!
I used to be terrified of death and dying, i'm 51 and not frightened anymore. You laughing at the hippo one cracked me up lol
I have a few phobias, but the one I get laughed at is driving. I’ve never had a license. I can operate a car, as long as there’s nobody else on the road, but if another car appears, I pull over until I disappear.
I had an intense phobia of feathers and birds, later found out I’m allergic to feathers.
I have the driving fear too. I walk everywhere if I can. Think about it this way, you are getting excersize and helping the environment
I think most people are afraid of death. We really don't know where we're are going, if anywhere. But we are going somewhere. Energy never dies. We lose are vessel (our bodies) but we still exist. Don't be afraid!
I am so freaking happy that y’all are back on list 25!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorite channels.
So happy to have you guys back! You were the first channel I subscribed to. RUclips feels complete now. Keep up the good work and Rock On! ❤✌🤘😁
Glad you’re back- you look like the break did ya good :) seem refreshed or something- just happy you’re back :)
So am I lol
lemme contribute here w one of mine: emetophobia, fear of vomit/vomiting. it's def affected my daily life in mostly small ways, as I get panicky if I even think about it too much, and the anxiety makes me nauseated so that never helps lol. it's just gross and unpleasant and a torturous experience all around.
I feel the same about a phobia I have literally suffered from since early childhood
@@kathleengivant-taylor2277 I'm so sorry, that's horrible.
Sorry u r having trouble with ur phobia as well. Take care
When I was a child, I had a fear of a stray hair. I would start gagging if I saw one. I finally overcame it tho.
Stray hair, yes Uncomfortable when a woman with long, loose hair walks through a restaurant shaking her hair. Am with you on this one.
I’m so pumped you’re back!! Going back and catching up now ❤️
so glad to see you back on here, was a nice surprise
The GOAT of List 25 is back in full effect
Great to have you back, Mike ❤️
Both of my daughters have a phobia. My oldest has a phobia about the word "knee". She doesn't like to say it, hear it or see the word. My youngest has a phobia about cotton balls and the cotton found in medicine bottles. She also can't stand to hear the sound if someone walking in snow
I have a weird phobia; Gephyrophobia. Fear of Bridges. It stems from an innate fear of heights, and a fear of deep water. Ironically enough, I’m a truck driver, so I can’t avoid my fear.
Great video! I have sleep paralysis and also sleep walk. It is very disturbing. Thanks for bringing these phobias to people's attention ✌️
There's also Aibohphobia, which is ironically the fear of palindromes.
Whoever came up with this was just mean!! But it's kind of funny
Like Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, supposedly the fear of long words!
I'm irrationally baffled that the world palindrome isn't a palindrome. I suppose it's the best for those sufferers.
10:14 The dopamine response associated with phone usage would be a mental issue. It leads to addiction
About time! LIST 25 in not the same without you.
I have an insane fear of pipes. I cannot go in to crawl spaces, attics, even shopping centers that have exposed pipes or I will have a massive panic attack. I’ve never heard of anybody else having it and I don’t know exactly where it stems from but I know it developed when I lived in Germany.
OMG! I love pickles! I can't imagine life with a phobia of pickles!
It’s amazing how many doctors and nurses don’t try to understand that :/
They should cause alot of people fear or are phobic of needles
You're back!!!!!!
I can understand the doll one cause I always thought dolls were alittle creepy, that is why I never liked playing with them as child
I have yet to find any official acknowledgement of this existing or any name for it.
recently got diagnosed with Thanatophobia. its crippling some days.
I am so happy you guys are back!!
I wonder what the phobia is of almost everyone afraid of any vehicle interior colors other than Gloomy Grey or Death Black
Glad your back missed you
Missed you too!
