I need to learn how to make bread like this I forgot that its around for feasts thats interesting you use lard and poke the tops. The oven is so cool looks like a big huge pizza oven that would be so cool to have one like that. Thank you for the video
Just drove thru Zuni, New Mexico last week and saw these ovens, two or three of them at almost every house. Now with this video I know how the ovens are used. Next trip I will stop and buy some bread. Looks delicious!
Thank you sooo much. I grew up in Jemez for a couple of years & Manuel Sandra was an adopted grandpa. He died but his daughter still makes bread & lives in Jemez. Thank you so much!! I cried watching this, sweet memories. Navajo Grandma
For purists, the horno adds a slight smokey flavor. But I've had bread from the oven that is great. Lard is the secret. Flavorful, but probably not the healthiest.
Hi my name is Jennifer Tullie. I’m from St. John’s, AZ and I was wondering if you know of someone to help me make my own oven bread in my back yard. Will you be able to help me with that?
This brings back memories of helping grandma make bread in her horno. Grandma is gone and I live in the city now. Can you post a video making feast day bread in a gas oven? Or can you tell me what temperature to bake the bread and for how long?
We have a new horno at our house in Albuquerque. Can you please tell me where I can buy a wood shovel to place and remove the leaves. Do you have a recipe you like for smaller amounts, it's just four of us. And finally, do you have a recipe for sweet bread? I love your video and maybe you can do one for the individual pies. Hmmm.
Your tribes bread is so so yummy when you serve it with chili. After pandemic is officially over, I'll look forward to your feast gathering. Stay safe friends.
Looks excellent and yummy never been to Jemez just Conchiti I always look forward to the dances on Hopi and eating this kind of bread with Noqkwivi or blue eggs with red chili flakes my Soho made it the best but she's in the next world now quakwi

The bread from Acoma Pueblo always a a "knob" sticking up from the round loaf. I don't think they bake the bread in pans, either. Anybody know?

I'm hungry now. I have to make bread. Unfortunately, it won't taste as good as Brenda's as I don't have the horno or her expertise.
I don’t know how to use yeast, do I just pour the packets into warm water and it into the dough right away? Or do I have to wait for a bit?
