  • I've decided to pursue lower surgery (I'm a transgender man), so in this video, I explain why. Basically, my need for it has begun to outweigh the potential hardship of having surgery.

Seems a thoughtful progression to finding more acceptance of all of you. It is a challenging to understand our body and social interactions.

Hi my friend, don’t be afraid or concerned about it so much. Pain or even complications are just temporary.
All I can say, I had phalloplasty and had a ton! of complications as of right now I am at surgery 9 only for the phallo. Still some things to do, but I can tell you one thing: i wouldn’t trade it for the world, I am happy about it and it was all worth it, wouldn’t go back for nothing! Even after all: all worth it! I can’t even remember the pain and stress I was in anymore. I’m serious! Best of luck to you :)

Well, I am glad that you feel good about your surgery path! That's awesome. I still don't think I'd be willing to go through that much, though. We're all different.

Yep. All of this. I had a cancer complication and have had 3 surgeries in 2 years so I’m taking next summer off but I really want meta. I’m super old so that makes me pause even more than if I was your age but I may still. I look for to hearing about your consultation.
    You look great BTW!

Wishing you well for your consultations. I've had a couple of consultations about lower surgery. A friend came along with me to the last one. This really helped, as getting my head round my options for lower surgery has felt really complex and overwhelming. Like you, I am really worried about complications.

Thank you! That's great that you had the support of your friend at a consultation - sounds like a good way to approach this challenging issue.

I would like to ask how you are after metidiotiplasty? I am transman too, and I am thinking about this surgery for me. In switzerland there is hardly no one with experience with metidiotiplasty.

hi there. I ended up not having metoidioplasty, actually.

My biggest concern with lower surgery is the long term complications. For example, does the urethra issues eventually go away or is it a life long problem? Do you get more problems down the road? Questions that don’t seemed to be answered. I was very disappointed in my consult with Chen. I want pictures and some actual information not just a doctor saying don’t worry let’s make an appointment.

From what I've heard, it sounds like the urethra issues do go away. But I'm not 100 percent certain, I guess. That's a good question. Did you ask to see photos when you saw Dr. Chen? I'm planning to ask him and the other doctor to see photos that aren't on their websites, including photos of less than great results. If they don't have those available, I would be a bit concerned.

No other medical surgery works like that but SRS , and we are suppose to be ok with that.

      Works like what?

    • @SourPatches2077

The consultations dont have the information available to the patient like any other medical procedure. No pictures no written information explaining procedures what to expect, outcomes, complications and so on. It’s a lot of the the doctor just saying yep this is what we do so when do you want to schedule. It’s important to remember that these are plastic surgeons, they are not held to the same medical standards as say a heart doctor. For me it makes me a little nervous that our surgeries are not considered actual medical procedures to be performed by doctors working under the strict standards of the medical establishment.

ZACH Perhaps I’m to picky but I want my surgery treated like an actual medical procedure and not cosmetic, which is what they have categorized in. I’m sure there are some good surgeons out there that give good info and professional consultations but Chen was not one of them. I walked out of there feeling so unbelievably disgusted and disappointed.

@@SourPatches2077 - I believe you've mischaracterized the types of surgeons required to do such surgeries. Things such as microsurgery of deep veins, arteries and nerves is not the usual fare of typical plastic surgeons. When urethral lengthening is performed that usually involves a surgical urologist. Such surgeries typically involve a team of surgical specialists. It is one reason it is much more expensive then the chest reconstruction surgery. Such practitioners tend to walk a fine line in explaining the autonomical details to clients who may not be comfortable with the standard medical terms.

@@SourPatches2077 - The classification of such surgery being cosmetic is done by the health insurance companies who are interested in avoiding paying for surgeries that they may perceive as being rather frivolous.
