My dad is a HUGE Herb Alpert fan and still owns at least four of his records. I grew up listening to both Herb Alpert and Gino Vannelli in the late 70's/early 80's as a child, but I never knew until now that it was Herb Alpert who gave Vannelli his big break. This was the time when the music was real, the artists were incredible, the song-writing was passionate, and the music industry as a whole was somewhat like a golden kingdom for us fans. We saw and heard great new artists emerge almost every other year in the 1970's-1990's, sometimes even months apart. So proud to have grown up in that era. Still a big Gino Vannelli fan. The man still looks good at 70, and that golden voice is still slaying.
I Just Wanna Stop was everywhere in 1978, when my husband and I were dating. Whenever I hear it I think of those times and falling in love. Love your music!
I'm really touched with the way people appreciate my good work. Thanks for the love. I’m not complete without you as my Fan I have you to be most thankful
Great stuff, Gino! A big thanks to Herb Alpert for giving a complete stranger the time of day, recognizing talent and giving someone with a passion for music a big break in that field. It seems that without this break, the unbelievable talent of Gino might never have ever been publicly recognized.
He talks about realizing at a young age that he needed to not live the party life, and to protect his voice. He vocalizes every day. This is why he still sounds amazing ---- actually I think even better now.
His music and talent is truly one of a kind. Like him, I love many different kinds of music and his fusion of them was magical. I just love the man and I hope he continues to make his masterpieces for many years to come!💗
This song penetrated my heart in '78 and never left, it is one of the defining songs of my youth, and for that I would say to Gino 'I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU!'
Vanelli was a style innovator very much ahead of his time, with a high pitch voice and sphisticated melodies with a cool virgin-galactic sensual lyrics framed with super hip Jazz concepts and feel not necessarily meant to dance to but to listen to and fly away to another dimension! An ICON for many other bands.
"Gino Vannelli" is a VERY talented and AMAZING musician!! I've ALWAYS liked his songs. He seems like a VERY mellow and laid-back kind of guy. "I Just Wanna Stop" was ANOTHER song I liked by him. It's a GREAT tune and it was a childhood favorite of mine. It just brings back the GOOD memories when I was growing up.
What a MOST INCREDIBLE story! I have goosebumps hearing this fantastic world changing event in your life! My gosh! I love your music, plain and simple!
I've been a fan of Gino's music since I first listened to his "Brother to Brother" album in my Dad's album collection as a kid. The "Brother to Brother" album is loaded with great songs including "I just wanna stop" which has always been my favorite from both the album and all of Gino's music.
Thank goodness for Herb Alpert and thank goodness for this tune. He's had so many great tunes but this one is my favorite. One of the best tunes ever recorded.
I'm really touched with the way people appreciate my good work. Thanks for the love. I’m not complete without you as my Fan I have you to be most thankful
One of the most amazing concerts that I ever saw back in the Day! A powerful, energetic performance that was highly entertaining, beautiful and flawless.
And hey everyone ...he’s Canadian...felt lost when he moved to the place of the music gods..LA...but he’s still our Gino..judging by this documentary...❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
That's wonderful that Gino got a great guy to listen. My guy promised to listen and I ended up running out of the office for my life and I was the one that called the police who said there was nothing they could do. Vice President of Capitol Records 1981. Motown wouldn't listen because they said I wasn't black so I left and raised my family on my talent. That was enough for me. Oh and then my Hollywood Story goes on but I won't bore anyone. It's no fun out there at all. Especially for a woman.
I'm really touched with the way people appreciate my good work. Thanks for the love. I’m not complete without you as my Fan I have you to be most thankful
Loved that Gino (and Joes) sound since 1975 when I first heard Storm at Sunup and Powerful People, my prised Gino possession is a mint copy of the original master recording of Powerful People... oh yes, I had just turned thirteen when I heard Gino Vannelli for the first time back in 1975..

Listen to the mid 70s albums Powerful People, and Storm At Sunup. They are a fantastic fusion of pop/soul/r&b/jazz/fusion featuring killer tunes, arrangements, musicianship and production. Very inspired music!
this story makes me curious about his brothers. what was it about their songwriting process that let them know this song would be a big hit and what were they doing with their songs that they didn't give Gino? did they write for other people? was there something about the hook in this one that made them think it was going to do the job for Gino in particular?

Great stuff, Gino! A big thanks to Herb Alpert for giving a complete stranger the time of day, recognizing talent and giving someone with a passion for music a big break in that field. It seems that without this break, the unbelievable talent of Gino might never have ever been publicly recognized.
What an incredible talent ❣️one of a kind, a voice like no other! Still listen to his music daily.
I am such a fan of Gino Vannelli and never knew that Herb Alpert gave him THAT shot. I adore Herb Alpert. Good company.
Gino is a vocal freak of nature. His voice is better in his mid 60's....just crazy.
It's HIS HAIR.. Similar to Samson
He talks about realizing at a young age that he needed to not live the party life, and to protect his voice. He vocalizes every day. This is why he still sounds amazing ---- actually I think even better now.
Born in 73 Mom loved this song and in the early 80s it was one of my favorites ever

This song penetrated my heart in '78 and never left, it is one of the defining songs of my youth, and for that I would say to Gino 'I LOVE YOU and THANK YOU!'

He needs to write a book on how to age gracefully. Looks fantastic.
Always nice to see that musical geniality and being a nice and intelligent person can go together.

Completely in love with him back then. And now.
I'd love to hear Gino cover a George Michael song. Think about the range both of them have/had. ❤
A true musician.
"Gino Vannelli" is a VERY talented and AMAZING musician!! I've ALWAYS liked his songs. He seems like a VERY mellow and laid-back kind of guy. "I Just Wanna Stop" was ANOTHER song I liked by him. Gino had the fortune to grow up with parents that provided a broad brush of music from classical to 40's to pop. And, we are all so fortunate!
Thanks for this. Anything Gino is always wonderful - no matter how many times you hear it, or see it. He's just special.

Great classic song but I always remember Eugene Levy in SCTV as Gino!
As Gino the Wolfman, lol! 😂
@@triphophoney2981 Started with Gino's signature Back-to-the-Audience move!
this story makes me curious about his brothers. what was it about their songwriting process that let them know this song would be a big hit and what were they doing with their songs that they didn't give Gino? did they write for other people? was there something about the hook in this one that made them think it was going to do the job for Gino in particular?
Certainly not his first hit single. It may have been his first top 10 record, but it was his seventh to make the charts in Canada.
