Entering Japan is not a child's play :). I remember I was not allowed entry into Tokyo-Japan in 2007. I was lucky I was only held at the airport detention for a night for $100 and then left the following day. I travelled to Japan again in 2013 to Osaka for a 10 days visit for my honeymoon. It's standard procedure for your passport to be held by the airline or authorities and returned to you only upon arrival in your home country. My experience is, when travelling from African countries, do not land in the capital city of any country. Claiming asylum in Japan is also notoriously challenging, with approval rates being exceptionally low-around 1%. This reflects the perception that individuals from certain regions, such as Africa, are often seen as unlikely to be travelling solely for tourism. Understanding these realities is crucial when planning a trip to Japan or similar destinations with strict immigration policies.

This is normal because most Ghanaians do not know about such things, they feel they are being treated differently. If the border control officers sense a suspicion, that's where they take you to Secondary inspection. That is where in depth questions are being asked to verify you coming to their country. If they see that you're not an honest visitor then they cancel your visa and you're being taken to a detention center where you will be deported on the available flight to your country. To those who are making ignorant comments, this got nothing to do with your leaders. Try and research in these PoE things.

I have been to Japan twice and the people are nice. My first time in Osaka I was questioned and let in and I was a student by then. Second time in Tokyo I wasn't questioned and let in and I was working by then. Probably the travelers didn't have enough evidence to show their return. Been to South Korea as well and they are very nice too. Sometimes people just think once you have the visa that's it. No! You need to have a return ticket, booked hotel and some information about the tourist places you're going to visit as a tourist and enough cash or card to prove you're not gonna be a burden. It runs through every airport.

You are right, also as per the gentleman, they got their visa through an agent and most of the time, the agent don’t share all the information they used to acquire the visa to them, so when they arrive and get questioned, the answers are not entirely same as what is on their file when they applied for the visa, in that case they won’t allow you to enter the country.

First time travelers are mostly perceived economic migrants in most advanced economies and it’s no news if Japan also does same. The major problem with his narrative is that he’s relying on hearsay instead of using the opportunity to educate himself. One of the most important things to address is the demeanor and posture we portray when you land in an airport. These officers can simply intimidate you if you keep showing signs of a newbie traveler and you ain’t able to challenge their directives. If they realize you know what you’re up to, they won’t have time for you and move on. It happens even at Kotoka Airport.

Currently, it’s hard in japan here. My eyes are even teary for this gentleman. It’s hard ooo.
Japan has a weak yen so it’s facing an influx of tourists so people too are using that to overstay. And crime is also increasing in japan now. So immigration in japan has become weird. Even we the inhabitants are suffering economic crisis. Everywhere no cool koraa.
The Japanese immigration is just protecting their territory so unfortunately, the genuine tourists too are suffering.
If we are being genuine, these men should tell us if they genuinely would go back. Booking hotel without paying is a big RED FLAG 🚩. The Japanese are smart.

All are false. There are a lot of Ghanaians who I know and have recently entered Japan just recently. No Japanese will tell you we hate this particular type of country because a Japanese can kill his/Herself if you tell him to be a racist.
Most Ghanaians can't answer questions straightly at the port of entry and that mostly leads to denial of entry, particularly in countries that don't do interviews during visa application. For example, in Canada, and Australia, you can Visa easily but be ready to answer questions before your visit at the port of entry.
Coming back to whites and the two African countries he mentioned, South Africa and Seychelles, those passport holders enter Japan without visas for a total of 90 days and such people don't need to answer a lot of questions at the port of entry like those who want to enter Japan on a tourist visa.

The fact that someone has been given a visa does not automatically grant them access to the country they are visiting. They can still be deported. What a lot of people don’t realise is immigration staff are trained to observe peoples’ body language as soon as they come off the plane. Sadly, a lot of foreigners including some Ghanaians are doing criminal stuff so some countries are weary of certain people coming to their country. I remember a few years ago a friend of my visited Ghana with his Mauritius friend. The Mauritius guy was not allowed in, he was deported back to UK on the next available flight even though he had his tourist visa and everything.

We should all understand that having a visa to a country doesn't guarantee entry and that's what they don't know. It's only the country's immigration authorities that have the power to allow you entry to that country not the embassy that issued the visa. The issuing embassy works differently and so do the immigration authorities.

These gentlemen shared the negative treatments they were given at the port of entry in Japan, and it is hoped that the appropriate authorities will seek explanation from the Japanese Embassy.
It is true that a valid visa can be denied at the port of entry. But my question is, would they treat nationals from other continents the same as they did?.
It is surprising to hear people say "they have good leaders and systems work in Japan not like ours", "we should blame our leaders" blablabla...It appears some folks easily find excuse/reason for the uncivilized behaviors of other groups, and are quick to victimize their own.
We may have our issues as a continent, but that doesn't give any country the right to mistreat us, much less when your embassy is issuing legit visas.

From his words his money got finished in just one day and he didn't even pay for the hotel. Japan will never force you to sign documents if you insist but if you don't talk they will know you are okay. Most of his words are not true.

Japan point of entry has always been difficult. Any country can issue you visa but u can be denied entry at point of entry due to many reasons. Currently what is happening at Japan immigration point is 'entry refusal' bcos your circumstances doesn't warrant entry permit. Most of what he said at the ending part of this interview are baseless and not true. Don't just pay a connection man or apply for visa bcos you saw on a page or a tiktok video that there's work in Japan. Make research, read and plan adequately b4 you depart. I can't say much here bcos most of you will be offended with the truth. Some are able to enter with same Ghana book so ask yourself questions why many are refused. During the visa application, you are to present a travel itinerary, hotel and airlines reservation. If u are lucky and your visa is issued then its time to relax and execute the 'akwantuomu' agenda bcos visa is valid for 90 days with 15 or 30 days allowed to stay as a tourist. Good luck next time.

  • @chrisanba

There are a few things people fail to understand. The statements you make when applying for the visa are admissible during entry. This gentleman mentioned he run out of money within 48hrs however you claimed to be visiting the country for some weeks.
During their interrogation the immigration officers noticed he lied on his application and did not intend to return. When you are refused entry, you are not under arrest however it is the responsibility of the airlines to get you back to Ghana, especially if you will transit in a country your passport allows you to enter without a visa.
Japanese are very meticulous and they don’t play with the law and misrepresentation. What happened to him as uncomfortable as it may seam (and I feel extremely bad for him) is the standard procedure for refusal of entry. Stay educated my brethren.
A few things he mentioned that I disagree is his assertion that he was refused entry because of his nationality. That is an outright lie

So here’s why most Ghanaians don’t know, Japanese immigration service aren’t like the easy manipulative ones in Ghana.
You need to do maximum research before you even consider the process.
They know that not every Africans will book Japan as Tourists destination.
Japan is expensive to live in so they know very well when something seems off.
also they have realized how most people are rushing to Japan for greener pastures.
    Note
Japanese are the best in terms of the relationship between Asians and Africans.
you people follow connection men and rip off your account for minimal information.
lastly, the rate at which Ghanaians are seeking Asylum is becoming too much that’s why they are talking these measures.
if you come as a tourist they’ll definitely push you out.
sorry but you can apply after some months.
