Christmas Vacation in Paradise: Our 24 Day Dominican Republic Adventure

Mariano (Yonny) and I did so much during Christmas break in the Dominican Republic this year. In fact, it was our favorite one yet. We made dinner for Nochebuena, enjoyed fireworks on the roof for New Year's Eve, went to Tierra Alta camp in Boca Chica, and got to translate with SCORE International. We are lucky to have three full weeks of Christmas vacation every year.
My favorite part of the entire break was getting to spend time with my mission group. This was the very same group I came with exactly three years ago and the trip where Mariano and I met for the very first time. We both enjoyed translating for them as they served here in the Dominican Republic by offering medical clinics to several villages.
Since moving abroad, Christmas time has changed dramatically for me. The snow is gone, the cold is tolerable, Santa Claus doesn't visit the malls or walk down the street, and I love the season more every year. It is certainly an adjustment, but Mariano and I get to create our own traditions together.
But now it is time to return to school. This is my third year teaching abroad. I didn't want to go back and neither did my students, but now that we have returned, I'm glad we did. I loved our vacation and I love seeing my students each and every day, too. They are all my favorite even though they don't believe me...
Living in the Dominican Republic is always interesting.
