Going in blind and playing KOTOR for the first time. This helps me so much, thank you!
Kotor 2 runs flawlessly with a bunch of HD mods and restored content mod. Im just cant get Kotor 1 to run... With all these mods i think its still a enjoyable game, even if u dont reminisce.
Just binged every damn star wars movie and I am so hyped to play this game - thank you for all the work youve put in to make our collective experience more enjoyable!!
Thanks for still beeing here for your fans and the fans of KotOR 💪
I literally wanted to play KOTOR for the first time one hour ago, and watched and completed your old video to the widescreen fix just now.
I go to your channel after just for the sake of seeing what you do and you post a new update??? lmao how is fate this random
It looks like mostly it's more up to date with the most recent widescreen fix mods. The Icons and Computer fixes are pretty new, for instance. The explanation is also much better this time. It was very easy to follow.
Amazing tutorial man, I have not fully played kotor since nearly a decade ago. Just finished a playthrough using this setup and it made the experience so much more clean and pretty.
I had to select yes for letterbox proportioning for my 3440x1440 21:9 monitor, so you might include that for ultrawide monitors in the description.
Thanks so much Xuul. Just installed the KotoR community mod build and your widescreen fix. Everything is working great and the installation process was simple enough to follow. I appreciate your effort and time you put into helping the community!
FYI, there is a link on the KotoR community mod page in the widescreen section that links to your old widescreen fix video that could probably be updated to link to this video.
You might want to let the makers of the Build know that as you'll skip the middleman that way.
your videos for kotor mod sync and this are just amazing. If you can in the future please do a kotor 2 mod install video.

Done this guide step by step as shown in this video and it has worked PERFECTLY! Was really missing this game and the last time I modded this game with Wide screen for 1440p x 2560 everything was working then one day (Hadn't installed anything) the sound of the game wasn't working at all. Even after checking sound settings nothing I could do about sound. Even after reinstalling the sound wasn't there after second boot up. So this has somehow fixed that and improved the experience from before! So thank you my Guy!
Thanks for the easy to follow guide mate. It all works very well in 4K, yes the map is small but without the fixes it would be small anyway. Icons and playable interface is wonderfully visible. The font/letters aren't as big as your video but I gather that's because you're at a lower resolution. Compared to vanilla 4K, this is so sharp and playable. This might as well be a remaster of sorts.
Everything looks to be running well, thank you very much!!
Been ages since I have seen one of your vids. Hope all is well and thank you for this video!! For some reason, Acolyte made me want to play a Star Wars classic.
why don't someone automate all of those mods into a single installer? At least the smaller ones can be grouped instead of gamers have to spend days installing. I lost 75% of the will to play the game after I finished with all of the modding from that neocities guide...
Yes a mod pack would be great!
@@kalvinravn8431 For real, and not just for this game, all those games out there that require a week to install and are incredibly mind-numbing to finish: Oblivion, Fallout4, etc. I mean, at least give the option
It was a pain, but I don't think it would be practical. It would vary for each person based on what resolution they are using at home. Also, someone would have to do the work and keep it maintained for any of the pieces that got updated.
Played this game wile it was still new so very long ago. I got it on steam but didn't start a replay until a few days ago. The visuals were so cringe I almost gave up until I saw this video. Thank you so much! Now I can relive my childhood again :D
For 3440x1440:
When using the k1hrm mod and asked for adjusting the dialog letterbox properties typ "yes".
Otherwise the dialog box will be cut off!
HE’S BAAAAAACK!!!❤
It’s absolutely wild that these fixes are necessary in 2024. Thanks for the guide.
In the same mood gl
I mean not really, its a 20 year old game. It is normal that it doesnt run proper resolution from 2024
@@MrFearlesskiller what does the age or resolution have anything to do with compatibility? There are games that are older and that have smaller resolution, than this game, that run perfectly. It’s baffling that this lengthy of a process is required. If you think otherwise then you’re misinformed.
@@theJollyPaleGiant What the fuck are you on about lmao. This game is easily playable without modding, it runs perfectly.
@@MrFearlesskiller RUclips troll detected.
Thank you so very much for this well put together easy to follow guide! I've been playing the game for the first time ever and streaming it for my audience this was a huge help!
Nice, thanks you so much, Xuul! Keep up with the content man! :D
thank you man i dont want these games to die for me if disney ruins it with the rumored revan series so i needed this video
Oh god no. Plagueis, now this. I swear, it's pure vindictiveness at this point.
You are amazing! Thank you so much. I cannot believe I can play this game in 5120x1440p and it work so well! Thank you to the KOTOR modding community too!
Thanks, much appreciated. Helped me play KOTOR, since the game minimizing on me after 10 seconds of unminimizing it was unplayable.
Wow what good timing, I just re-bought KOTOR 1 and 2 to replay them. Thanks!
Incredible, this worked flawlessly. Thanks so much, Xuul!
duuuude. played this game as a kid after release, just thought oft it yesterday and now your video. nice :D
thanks for the guide xuul, ill be following this, and i'd love to see you cover the kotor community mod for sure!
Thank you so much for this, also had some other issues but switching to win 7 compatibility did wonders
You saved my life and my sanity. I only wish there would be something to make font a little bigger
Resolution of 3840x1600 required 'yes' for the 'dialogue letterbox proportions' when patching the exe
YOOOO youre back!
Thank you very good video happy to play it again after like 10 years ^^
Hey Xuul, I did all of this on a 3840x1260 monitor, 55” by 50” screen, and followed this to the letter. My only issue so far is that my main menu options and buttons are all over the place, like the hud was in a loaded game. This makes it impossible to create a new character. Is there any other word on such an issue?
for anyone with 2560x1080 / 21:9 monitors you do need to patch the text box.
Huge help. Game runs fantastic and looks fantastic! Thank you so much!
i dont usually comment on videos but man i spent a whole weekend trying to get the HD version of this game working. i kept getting that main menu thing where it was an empty box. i followed you guide to the letter even overriding mods i had already had for this that you said to get. what im trying to say is thanks for helping me getting it to work!
Damn, 8 days ago
Really seems like it was more than a coincidence for me to randomly decide to finally get into this game haha
Will be using this guide on my next play through!
how would I do this on the Amazon games launcher version?
I like that some of these mods have ultrawide folders, but then I look at that fade fix and... which is more important to support, the width or the height? I have 2560x1080, so should I take one of the 2560x__ ones or the 1920x1080 one? Or leave it?
At least it runs now. The biggest step was that part of picking the x768 option for the patcher at the start!
Update: Also of note, the 21:9 resolution required me to go back in and redo that bat file with "yes" for the adjusted dimensions for the letterbox footnotes as the dialogue choices were otherwise all off the screen.
thank you very useful help. my only issue is still cant get it to display in my game specific monitor, well also any way to make the text larger? its so tiny on a 4k screen
after 3 hours i can finally play modded kotor
really appreciate this guide and your dedication.
Thanks. I installed this, game worked well, I then put in additional mods and then ruined the whole game for myself. Will just install all this and not try my luck this time (except maybe the lightsaber forms mod).
Excellent tutorial! Everything worked like a charm =)
On a 3440x1440 screen and the game is "spilling" over on my second screen for some reason despite the game being set to fullscreen, everything else seems right in the games title screen except the spill-over which makes it rather frustrating
Any advice for someone who wants to run the community build, add Brotherhood of Shadow's Solomon's Revenge, and then run your widescreen fix? What I need to know specifically is where the best points in the process are to throw in BOSSR and when to run the 4gb patcher that the community portal lists as the final step to let the game use more than 4gb of RAM
Absolutely bang on video. Great description, and thankfully for someone like me with no real experience modding games, you idiot proofed it :)
Absolutely amazing tutorial. Thank you.
hey so I got to the part where i installed the ws models and the high res menus mods, and i tried testing my KOTOR and I got a blank menu screen where the menu icons were there, but were invisible. I tried installing the main menu widescreen mod to see if that would fix the issue but it did not, does anyone know how to fix this issue?
So did all of this it mostly works thank you, though some of my non main options can't be interacted with the mouse and same with the pause menu options while also being off center. any help fixing this will be appreciated. ; Update, ok so i realized that i didn't put the swkotor.exe file in the high res folder to batch it i did now my new problem is that the main menu has extremely moved in malak cutting off most of the title and the options cannot be interacted with
Thank you very much ! Good job :D
I LOVE YOU. THANK YOU!
Literally, right out of the gate my resolution options are blank when using swconfig.
Thank you for this! Only question I have is about the text in menus and dialogues, should one of these mods have made that larger? I am playing at 4k and my text is quite small
Edit: I tried a mod called " Larger Text Fonts for KOTOR 1.0.2" and that seemed to do the trick
Hey so I have a bit of an issue after following the video and am hoping for some help. So I set my resolution options to 1920x1080 and downloaded all the mods for it at the same resolution as well and the opening legal cinematics were aligned perfectly with the middle of the screen, but the main menu and character creation menus are all too big and positioned to the right of my screen and the left side is blank. Idk what I did except that my resolution I picked doesn't match the 3840x2160 resolution of my monitor. I did this as my pc is not 4K accessible so I assumed, liked most games I play on it, that I wouldn't be able to run that resolution so I opted to set it to 1920x1080. Was this a mistake and if so how can I correct it?
Literally just finished this tutorial and have exactly the same thing. Glad its not just me!
Is there a way to get the HUD not to scale so much with this method? It's HEUG and looks terrible.
Perfect fix, fantastic, thank you so much
when i launch it, the game is massively zoomed in by about 300% on the top left corner :( i cant fix it
As mentioned in the video you need to change your display scaling.
Temporarily while playing the game set your windows OS display scale to 100%. If not then whole game looks zoomed in to left top corner and missing lots. Can be changed while game is running to correct.
@@Tricky_Adventures The display was 100%.
The actual fix was the following:
Set it to run in compatibility for windows xp service pack 2
to run as admin
to disable full screen optimisations
and then to override high dpi scaling behavior performed by application.
Hey, I went and downloaded the editable Executable file and it doesn't come as a ZIP, it comes as a RAR file, any difference there?
Almost worked for me. I have an issue where for example, in the graphics menu the mouse doesn't match up with the menu options. Clicking 'close' will toggle grass. I could look past that, but in character creation the menu with descriptions appeared halfway off bottom right of screen.
I was able to fix the issue by going back to the hires_patcher and typing yes in the command prompt instead of no.
@@dee_n_ayy Hey, what resolution were you using?
Only issue is that text is too small. I found a mod called ' Larger Text Fonts for KOTOR 1.0.2' but if you use anything larger than default for the dialogue and description boxes, the quantity of an item won't be visible. Been looking for a fix, but it doesn't look like there is one.
Everything is working but the menus. The save select and even in game the menus are messed up. What's supposed to be on top is down and to the right (in the pause menu, inventory, lvl up etc.) and thus the mouse tracking is off for those buttons as well but the UI in game *unpaused* is scaled correctly and I get dialogue correctly. I've done both the (yes) and (no) option in k1hrm and no change. same issue.
Anyone have an idea?
My Monitor is also 2560x1440 so I used all the same settings as shown in the video.
Following these instructions for a 4k monitor is giving me trouble...
So we don't need the 1920 by 1080 UI files offered by UNIWS anymore?
i need help also, having trouble with the same size
i could use some help with my 1920x1080, size; center
Thank you so much for this guide 😃
So I followed the video and I've gotten everything to work *except* all of the lower HUD elements (party, medpacs, etc) just...don't show up. Does anyone have an idea as to what might be wrong here?
I've got a question: both the Restoration mod and the Community Patch mod tell me to install those before any other mods but I've already finished this tutorial and really don't feel like doing it again. Can I still use those mods without my game breaking because I've installed other stuff first? Does the stuff in this tutorial even count as mods? How does this work???
good video, good guide.
not quite the results I was looking for though, my old man eyes need that UI at least 30% bigger.
doesn't seem like there's a solution to my problem unfortunately.
Its like he read my mind
Very well done tutorial sir I appreciate you
Please help, i have problems with the grass in Dantooine
I had some issues with the grass once I hit Dantooine.
Long streaky line graphics artifacts on screen in some locations. I found if I turned off grass in graphics options it goes away.
you're the goat. thank you so much
Hi, I've done everything according to your directions, but when i try to select companions or a save file i can't click on anything where it is, I have to blindly find it a few inches diagonaly to the right. Any idea why this would be happening?
It was the letterbox thing in k1hrm. Anyway, thanks for the video. Nice and easy to follow, now i can try this classic for the first time.
Great guide, thank you!
Hello, thanks for your guide, I followed step by step but I ran into a problem, the workbench just doesnt open any UI when I interact with the first one you can find (I replaced the files from the workbench upgrade screen file multiple times by now) could you help me out? :)
You forgot to link the Kotor fade whitescreen fix into the description btw!
Good catch i will add that asap
I had this installed fine on a previous computer, but now when I try to install it on a new laptop I'm not getting any resolution options at all, either in-game or in the config exe. I'm assuming this is a very important step, because doing everything else changes the game's resolution but not the display window. The internet seems to agree that the game needs to be run at 60hz, but my laptop only has 144 as an option. O kind internet gods, is there a way to change this just for one program? Capping the game's framerate to 60 doesn't seem to help anything.
If I need to change resolution, what steps do I need to retrace to do that? I have mine set to 1920x1080 for my PC but I need to switch it to fit on the steam deck.
Sadly it didn't worked on my 3440x1440. I followed exactly step by step but the menüs are off, and the mouse doesn't work anymore. I hope they'll make a remake of this game, I missed it back in the days. But today its unplayable, at least on my rig.
So I was following the guide and when I got to the Pretty Good Icons I accidently replaced the files out of habit after doing the community mods. I pressed Ctrl+z but when I try to put the files back in it doesn't ask if I want to replace anymore. Are those files gone? Does anyone know which files it tries to replace?
I am trying to mod the Amazon version of the game. I have follow the steps (including the Sound and Movie fix) until relauching the game after the uniws patch with the editable excutable. I just get an error "The procedure entry point _AIL_resume_3D_sample@4 could not be located in the dynamic link library . Has anyone come across this and if so were you able to resolve it. Thanks.
11:28 So what happens if i did overwrite these files? :( I went through the whole guide the last some hours and out of habit replaced the files... >.>
Hey quick question if one was to upload videos of kotor with mods on video is it copyright in any way or we allowed to do it
I don't have the 1280x960 option available
same, all my options are 4:3
paitently awaiting a fix for the mouse issues. Mouse goes to bottom of screen but cannot select anything
Mouse worked fine for me except in the ship fighter attack minigame where it was janky and I had to use wasd instead which still sucked a bit. Here are some of the mouse suggestions if you are having issues from what I had checked on, but none of them fixed the issues with fighter combat for me.
a) Disable HW mouse in swconfig.exe, but that changes the resolution in the ini file, which you will have to change back. Better to just change EnableHardwareMouse=0 in the ini file to do it. That made the mouse not line up with the menus, might have helped with fighter combat but I didn’t try it. I swapped it back to enabling hardware mouse and that worked again for the main part of the game.
b) Keep HW mouse but disable Steam overlay for the game. Didn’t help in fighter combat.
c) Changing mouse sensitivity in ini from 33 to 300. No effect in fighter combat.
d) Just used wasd to control movement, sometime wasd didn’t fuction, exit game and redo. With just keyboard this is annoying fight.
bro all these mods just say copy into override folder which I do but when I start the game they aren’t there?
what if the game crashes when i launch after patching
I have a weird problem, I am unable to edit the resolution on the config, there is nothing in the dropdown
I am having no luck. Why is this game so complex to get working
So I'm running into an issue where part of the screen is black after following the guide. Alt+tab out of the game didn't help and I have it running in compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). I tried changing it to Windows 7 from a suggestion in another post and disabling compatibility mode but the game will then crash in both of these instances.
Large black block in upper left corner. When I upgraded my amd graphics driver this appeared. Downgrading made it go away. Also if you were in the game and saw this I was able to fix it each time by refreshing the graphics card with cntr, win, shift B would make it go away.
I'm confused on if this is legit or not. Whenever I try to download the very first thing my antivirus is saying it's detecting a virus but so many people are saying this is working for them...?
hmm i feel like i prefer the look of the older widescreen methods
Played KOTOR on Xbox original when it came out and loved it so I want to give a modded playthrough a try as it hasn't aged very well. I just want to make sure i start of with a stable base and am confused on the literal first step of the Mod Build, installing Quicker TSLpatching script. The dialogue box says to pick the location of KOTOR 1 (self-explanitory) and then the location of KOTOR 2 but it says if you don't have either of these games you can hit cancel. I don't have KOTOR 2 and only KOTOR 1, does that mean just pick the location of the first game and then don't select anything on the second window for KOTOR 2? Or does the script require both games installed for some reason? Noob Question but would appreciate any input so i can get chugging along on the mod build.
You select cancel when it asks for kotor 2 location
@@isaac19901 Hey thanks for the reply! 👊 So it still applies it for KOTOR 1 even though you hit cancel? I figured it just canceled the whole installation. Time to start going through the build 😁
Of course I had to overwrite the ONE time I'm not supposed to 😭
Will this work on Windows 10 also or just 11?
I don't have the option to set the resolution to 1280 x 960.
Yeah me neither, did you find a fix?
Thanks kind sir !
Head ups for 3440x1440 players I had to letter box my dialogue as it was cut off
