I am surprised you are one of very few people bravely speaking this truth on the huge platform that is you tube. Thank You 😊

Tigress thank you, I appreciate you watching & your comment! The Yoga is Dead podcast which I later found on Spotify also discusses some of these issues.

Thank you! This was really raw and great info. I’ve been on the fence, only because I don’t want to teach, I just want to expand my knowledge/practice and this really resonates. I’ve been practicing for a year but on YT so I am have pretty much zero experience. Maybe one day. Happy new year and blessings your way 🙏❤️✨

What resources (books, programs, etc.) do you recommend to "know everything a student should know"? How can I as a practitioner create a unified understanding of yoga. As of now I have chunks of information (different poses, parts of flows, random pranayama methods etc.) but they are not connected in a structured way.

Thank you so much for this video Valerie I really appreciate it how Frank and honest you were being and how encouraging yet realistic you are when talking about this subject. I've been practicing yoga often on since I was 15 and I'm now 26 and I've been doing yoga consistently for the past 5 years.. I'm on the fence about paying for yoga teacher training because I'm honestly not sure if I love yoga for myself or if I actually want to teach other people. I'm always that friend who is telling everyone that they need to practice yoga and suggesting poses and tips to them. I'm worried though that I wouldn't make a great teacher

Hi, thank you for sharing your journey! I think it sounds like if you really love sharing yoga with others, perhaps you'd like to try teaching. Maybe you could start by reading a book to see if it's interesting and inspiring to you, before you decide to do a YTT? I'd recommend one like this: www.markstephensyoga.com/marks-books/teaching-yoga. Best of luck!

This is all true. I am currently in YTT 200 and paid the entire fee up front when I had a side gig pay me well. My goal was (is?) to give free yoga to those who are grieving. I use yoga as a form of therapy to get me through the death of my son five years ago. I wear a bracelet he gave me to every class, and I feel he is with me. He would love that I am on this journey.
HOWEVER, I have not been a consistent learner. I am very into fitness, all forms of fitness, yoga being a small part. I would especially love warrior sculpt, which was a lot of Sun As, a bit of Sun Bs, lots of weights integrated. Not traditional yoga.
Now that I'm on my yoga learning path, I have to say, I am a bit overwhelmed. They have us teaching as of the second or third day. The goal is what they said it would be. To TEACH yoga. I was kind of hoping I would understand more of the poses. And I do. For Ashtanga yoga. That's what we are focusing on, and don't get me wrong. It's great! But we are required to attend lots of Flow classes, which are my least favorite. Because...you guessed it! I don't know yoga that well and I get lost in the "flow."
I came to RUclips to figure out how to get to a better place and stumbled upon your video. You are a true teacher. You laid it out very nicely. :)
I'm committed and I will finish my training, but it will be painful. :) I'm by far the oldest and worst student. But as true yogis are, they are treating me with compassion and kindness.

I agree, I have done yoga for under a year. And I am not mentally ready, nor physically! And I want to keep my motivation up. And I am not motivated in teacher training at this time of my life. They also sell it as a way to deepen practice.

Thank you so much for this video! I am just beginning my Yoga path and am very interested in it. I was being impatient about starting YTT and my husband suggested I do more research and take more classes being a student. This video definitely helps ease my mind about waiting to take the class and becoming a more experienced student. That being said what would you recommend to do in order to learn everything I can about yoga as a student? Going to retreats? taking several classes? RUclips videos? Thank you!!

Hi Valerie, if I am just interested in Yoga Nidra, do I still need to go through 200H YTT to lead Yoga Nidra session?

Hi, usually, yes! Although there’s nothing stopping you from offering it on your own especially online. You should just be honest with any students what your credentials and experience are
