    The audio is quite interesting. I can get Step 91's audio effect when I'm transmitting on FM and receiving using SSB. However, usually transmitting SSB back to FM receiver won't cause any useful demodulation. If Skala 12 used AM for reception (or even transmission, the receiver's USB filter could have filtered the carrier out), then the two stations could have communicated, but the readability would have been extremely poor, which might have been the cause of so many re-transmissions.
    It would be interesting to see the actual RF spectrum of the communication, but I guess it probably wasn't available...

      they both (Skala and Step) use SSB, or to be more correctly USB mode. probably something with their microphone or equipment.
