LTspice tutorial - Simulation models - How to check their accuracy?

This time I analyze some methods to verify simulation models in LTspice and see exactly just how accurate they are. These are not all the methods of course but this tutorial can give you an idea about what can be done to check if the models you are using are actually accurate.

Excellent! Thankyou.
As usual an another gem.
I'm happy you enjoyed it!
Thanks Fesz, very interesting and insightful!
I'm glad you liked it! I am planning on doing component modeling related content next time also.
I never thought LTSpice model is incorrect. Thanks for sharing, really good quality content
I wouldn't go as far as saying its incorrect but rather say they are not very accurate... For a quick simulation the stock models are good enough in most cases, but for high accuracy I always go with models supplied by component manufacturers.
@@FesZElectronics what if manufacturers don't provide Spice model, can you create one yourself?
Hello Mahn Linh Doan! Well you can do anything, it just takes a lot of effort and a very good understanding of the component... Usually correct component parameter definition is done by making practical measurements if the datasheet doesn't provide them and depending on the component the model can either be the generic definition provided by LTspice or a more complex model made from various ideal components and digital blocks.
@@FesZElectronics can you do a videos on converting IBIS model to LTSpice please?
I may get to this topic at some point. In the mean time, I found something that might help you if you want to perform such a a conversion: www.intusoft.com/utilities.htm#Modeling
Interesting insights. Just what I told my students... Be careful with the models. One question: why didn't you do your simulations in DC mode instead of tweaking the TRAN mode?
Not sure; I'm just used to doing the Tran simulation. I guess that for this sort of static operation, the DC would be better though.
Thank you very much for your insightful video!
I'm happy you enjoyed it! Next video will also have a similar topic!
@@FesZElectronics Excited and can't wait!
thank you sir, i am working on latest SIC Mosfets and its modeling, will look forward to have a video on it in future
Thank you genio, i love your videos
Hi Fez. Love the video. It would be amazing if you could do a follow up video on how to test a pentode or tetrode models?
thanks again :)
Hello Marc! A while back I did do a video on triode simulation models - ruclips.net/video/7v9dG1uteAQ/видео.html ; the same basic setups should be valid for testing tetrodes or pentodes with the added observation that the second grid needs to be supplied with a constant voltage. Most datasheets that contain characterization curves for these tubes also specify at what Vg2 the tube was tested.
good work!
Thank you for watching! I'm happy you enjoyed it!
good job!
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Why, did thay intentionally ditched accuracy for speed (which ltspice boasts of)?
I appreciate if you post a video about IGBT simulation on ltspice.
I will try to get to this at some point, thanks for the suggestion! In the mean time I got to get more familiar with IGBT, I never had use this type of component since I mostly work with low power circuits...
Wow. I will careful next time.
you are too fast, crazy fast!, in settings parameters (tube section)... :(
a weirdo running his youtube channel lol
