Another great video. Real big fan. I live to your north on Prince edward island in canada, but grew up in nova scotia, same terrain. Bread is a universal staple round the world, good on you to teach how to make it, in a wilderness environment. Important video, very well presented in a down to earth manner....keep em coming! Take care!
Love your videos sarge. You've mentioned going on an afternoon hunt at the beginning of a couple videos... can you take us along? I struggle with hunting and always like seeing perspectives from those I learn from... cheers!
Adam Whitlach I can try that man. I started to actually, but the crunchy snow leaves it hard for walking, filming....and trying to get near anything right now. Will see what I can do tho bud
Skulking around the archives, snare wire to center the stove pipe? Genius. "Mighty Fine" shelter and vid, worked hard on the cam angles.. Bread and tea for the WIN.
Man I thought you had built an igloo...lol. Looks great as does the bread. Some beans would really spice it up maybe some turnip greens. That stove must make it like a 5 star hotel. Be careful you might get spoiled...lol. Thanks Sarge hope the hunting was good. atb
Thanks for mentioning the Book, sounds like a good read. Lab is some rough country. I worked on a ferry that ran up the coast from Goose bay, to Nain. I'll have to be sure to check that out.
Love the videos sarge, really informative and fun.You got me made curious now about that book,I'm going to have to try and find a copy of it,as I'm from Newfoundland and Labrador and plan to do some hunting and fishing in Labrador one of these days. Not sure if you've seen it or even if your a fan of his,but I thought I'd mention it as it kinda ties in with the book, but Ray Mears did a special in Labrador, called the barren lands which you can check out on youtube where he spends time with the montangais and naskapi tribes, its pretty cool,I think you might like it.
Lookin good Derek. Thanks for the tip on the book, I don't do face book, I'm glad you mentioned it here. I will be checking it out once I finish Wilderness Secrets Revealed.
My goal is to try to go out for 30 days in the wild. only with what I can carry. Hope you can make more videos on basic outdoor skills. Game traps skinning outdoor shelters
jason hyland Thanks bro. Get ur arse up here and we can cook all the bread ya want ; )Just got done editing a good video using the axe Tony gifted me. Love that thing man
Awesome shelter for this series. Have you ever tried pine needle tea? It's very healthy and mild tasting, white pine needles are the best IMO. Your video made me hungry, I'm going to make some bannock at home tonight with sausage and tea for me and the wife. Good luck on your hunt, Sarge. I enjoy you vids and calm demeanor. Its snowing in central Minnesota right now. Dave Fez
Dave Fesenmaier Appreciate it Dave, I hope you and the wife enjoy your sausage, bannock and tea bud! Yes....I have had pine needle tea a ton of times.....quite enjoyable for sure
That's a great shelter Derek. Once you get the store stocked again, you should have a contest: each purchase gets you a chance to win a weekend in the shelter with some survival/trapping instructions. I'll bet it would help sales and many would be anxious to enter. I'm not a big fan of "enter my give-a-way" to get more subscriber contests. But, I'd certainly buy some more kit to try and win a weekend.
Looks good. I'm amazed that snow doesn't come in from the rooftop around the pipe and build up on top of the stove. I see you left an open circumference around the pipe so it is not in direct contact with the single wall pipe. Two cozy beds, a small table, a lamp and front door would definitely finish this nice hut up. Nice job Derek. Hey what ya hunting for? I don't know what season your area is in. We only have one final week of deer season and its muzzleloading only.
***** Thanks Gino. Snow actually does get in and get on the stove, but not a real big deal I guess....melts off pretty easy lol. Its deer season here for another week or so as well......I was just out for some small game tho. Hard to see anything with all the crunchy snow when ya sound like a herd of elephants walking thru the woods haha. The beds, lamp, table and door would be a great finish for sure. Take care bud
Cool shelter ... Looks like it would keep you dry. Should throw a mil. Cot in there so you can sleep and give your knees a break if ya wanna sit. Cheers
mmmm bannock. Some maple beans would definitely hit the spot. Just have to be careful around the fire that night ;). Though I've also seen (ray mears) but never tried, apparently it's good with a little rum sprinkled on it.
A good tip when Your not cooking on the stove put big flat rocks on the stove top then bury them in the dirt floor for extra heat on real cold nights. great videos if your ever i.n pa stop in
sargefaria Ghee is just boiled down unsalted butter better known as clarified butter. There are lots of directions on making Ghee on the web if your interested. Its always with me when Im cooking in the woods and want a buttery flavor. Great for non stick stuff like eggs and the like, Later bro....
Hi, i live in north florida, US. i want to get into the whole bushcraft scene and wilderness survival it is really interesting to me, however i'm having a hard time finding a good place to go and spend a night in the woods... i know you probably don't know north florida, but is there any tips or suggestions on where i should start?
TheCastingCousinsHD nothing wrong with practicing in your back yard until you can find a spot somewhere bud. And yes, I don't know florida too well at all
As an improvement to the comfort of your shelter, you might consider building a buschcraft stool and a small table. It appeared you were really starting to sweat towards the end of the video. Most people don't believe you when you tell them that that a small woodstove in a small enclosed space can raise the temperature such that you can just wear a short sleeve T-shirt despite the outside temperature being below zero.
bwillan Have already considered those things bud, just haven't gotten to it yet. It was very warm......and if I weren't so lazy to take some more layers off....I would have easily been comfortable in a T shirt
Should of known when i noticed the video was only 1 hour 18min. To spend a year in the bush.how long did you really stay. I mean you ate your soup and jerky on the first night. Thats not a very intelligent survival technique bud! Lol
Adam Oldershaw f you were smart enough to watch the next video about it.....you would have known exactly what it was about. But you come and leave ridiculous comments acting like a know it all yourself and trying to put me down. Very typical nowadays
Love that shelter Sarge, nothing like a toasty warm shelter on a cold day eating some homemade bread.
Your shelter with the stove looks really comfy! Great Derek!
Waldhandwerk Sure is Sepp, thanks buddy
Awesome stuff Sarge, that bannock looked the business and boy that snow is really starting to come down where you are ~Peace~

+brad mack Preciate it bud. Being able to make simple breads is huge IMO. Thanks again
I enjoy this series, thanks.
FYI: I took a 2x4 as a backer, screwdriver & hammer to gently mark 1/2 cup lines on my cup.

Cool shelter ... Looks like it would keep you dry. Should throw a mil. Cot in there so you can sleep and give your knees a break if ya wanna sit. Cheers
Dee O. Gee not a bad idea at all. I am going to fill it with pine/spruce bows tho, and probably add a couple logs for a seat and a table ; )
mmmm bannock. Some maple beans would definitely hit the spot. Just have to be careful around the fire that night ;). Though I've also seen (ray mears) but never tried, apparently it's good with a little rum sprinkled on it.
That Ray Mears recipe is the same one I've been using.
The Otter Outdoorsman LOL....right on Nate
Yeah the woods are crunchy for sure, they may stay locked up through bow season. I'm looking at squirrel hunting by mid week !
workingclasswoodsman Took a quick walk yesterday man, loud as hell out there
A good tip when Your not cooking on the stove put big flat rocks on the stove top then bury them in the dirt floor for extra heat on real cold nights. great videos if your ever i.n pa stop in
Great Stuff Derek, I like to use Ghee It gives the bread a nice buttery flavor and it is shelf stable. Easy to make and easy to pack. Later bud!
TomsBackwoods Thanks bro....never heard of it?
sargefaria

What kind of stove is that and where can I get 1?? Recently found your vids and LOVE EM. Very informative.
Peter Hunt Thanks man. Its a Kni-Co stove I got mine from Outfitters Supply, but you can find them in quite a few places online.
Thanks 4 getting back 2 me
Peter Hunt no problem man
ha ha! I thought those "pops" were gun shots. But in the wide angle shot, I could see the drips hitting the stove.
northof50now lol
I am sure this has been asked before, but I really like your pack, what kind of pack is that?
Nick J Woodsman Pro Pack. A custom pack that I designed and have available on my site. Its out of stock currently however
sargefaria Thank you !
It looks like it could be cozy if fixed right.

I'd love to come out there and compare bannocks. >_o
Thanks for the video
Eat Carbs Thanks Eat ; )
Great Video...just don't turn RUclips's CC on...it misses quite a few words in there.
Matt Maulden thanks man
I don't use oil I normally just through a piece or 2 of bacon in the cast iron whenever I get low on grease.
ramsessilent I have done that as well...always good to use/eat bacon ; )
makes darn tasty bread :)
salted corn bread would be nicer plus using the trivet makes your food dry out you need the direct heat hotter the bettter for bread?
Alex piv too each their own man. But that sounds really good too haha. A trivet allows for airflow under the pan which is better for cooking actually
yeah your right but its slow maybe use foil or lid bro resects
Sarge, what coat r u wearing in this episode?
kind regards,
Chris
Christopher Perrio-Stone Its a Duluth Anorak bud
Sarge,
If you add a cover to the pan, it would almost be an oven.
GodschildinNC no doubt bud
what about if you place deer hide flesh side up all around the top of the shelter
Would you happen to have the ISBN # for that book?
Switcher @True-North-Journey-Unexplored-Wilderness/dp/1556439091
Switcher Well that didnt work haha. Look at the description box, i will put it there
ok. I see that the snow did not cave it in..
Where did you pick-up your anorak?
BanTheStupid Duluth Pack Co
good eating:)
Inconvient Camping no doubt

that shelter would be a grat long term survival shelter if you just kept adding brush and sweeping out he inner wilting leaves
Aiden James yup
