Fair call on the video. Things can be improved. I've pointed out some options; 1. Dents and dings: Its a car driven on the road. It will happen. If you don't like them, could have them touched up? 2. Shifter; If the linkage, get new linkage. If gear box, have it refreshed. These are serviceable parts that can be refreshed. 3. 5x100 pattern; That's the standard pattern on the '04. Buyer beware. 4. Tune (Gas mileage); You mentioned its safe for extended periods on the track. That's great! But don't expect great mileage on the road. Expect engine safety. 5. Suspension; Get new suspension. Speak to a suspension expert and have something made to your specs. 1. Seats; Either go back to the stock seat or loose some weight (It can be helped) 2. Exhaust; Muffler choice will play a role in keeping decibels down. Performance will probably alter very little. 3. Splitter; If you dont like it, remove it. Test without it? 4. Bumper (FMIC); Could have looked at a W2A setup instead. Would have reduced the cutting needed. 5. Engine smoke; Some built motors smoke more than others. Depends on the clearances and build. Just happens sometimes with built motors. Hope this helps to make a great car even better!
This is the ONLY '10 things I hate..' video that I've actually clicked and watched to the end. Why? Because you guys actually maintain and RACE your STi. I don't have one (yet) I have an '05 WRX same chassis and lug pattern that I plan on doing some considerable upgrades to in the near future. I'd love a GD STi (almost grabbed one a year ago) but at this point I want a newer body style either '11-14 or just bite the bullet and go brand new. Out of the probably dozen or more car enthusiast channels I subscribe to, your channel is slowly becoming one of my top 5 to watch. Keep it up! I have a great appreciation for people who do things the way I'd do (or would like to do) if it were my car/project, and those are the channels I like to watch. Not these 18-20 yr old kids whose cars were bought for them who make a channel just to show off their mods and then try to explain to you how maintain a car that they can barely drive.......I'm so sick of that and it's all over RUclips smh. I'm so glad you guys are NOT like that. Keep the videos going! This is great motivation. #Salute
I'm guess you two are brothers..!If it is, I think is pretty cool that you work on the car together.Make me miss my bro. Back at home working always on our cars together.Love you brother..! Keep enjoying the Subie guys !
Understeer is an issue. What sways are you running to try to eliminate some . The shifter is the pivot bushing and is super easy to do , don’t even have to get under the car.
Little tip for the bouncyness of the car : Buy the Tein EDFC Pro Active , its a little screen and 4 motors that you attach on the top of your suspension and it automatically sets the stiffness of your suspension or if you want to do it manually you could also do that
I hate the wheel pattern too :'(. I have an 04 STI. I'll be back home in Texas for the holidays with her soon! Visiting some old friends in Houston, Austin and San Antonio.
there are bushings in the shifter that need to be replaced sometimes on any standard subaru. once they're replaced the shifter is better than new. I've had a legacy and i currently have an Impreza and with both cars i needed to replace the bushings at some point.
Remember to give the video a thumbs up to please the RUclips algorithm Gods! Lol And don't forget to Subscribe and Hit that notification bell right after! Thanks for watching guys!!!
Great Vid guys. I'll have to do a vid like this on my 04 when i get back to the states. Btw... Our subies are like twins... very similar... I went with the FP black and a Grimmspeed TMIC... alot of other things are very similar... (like the dings of a previous owner LOL)
Thanks guys for the vid. Just for shits and gigs here are the 5 things I don’t like about my 08 STi #1- power steering o-ring issue. Fixed finally with AN fittings now #2 - MPG. I know I know but still would be nice. #3 - front seats need way more bolstering. # 4 - suspension from factory is way to conservative. Pushes like a MF. Fixed AF, now I can power oversteer 😁 #5 - secondary air pump system. The solenoids kept freezing up/ corroding. I’m in CA so I need them to pass smog.
Hey is the up pipe fixed? You guys need to do an update video on that, unless the video season is over. We can always wait and find out until next year i guess ;D
+zentx Yes this was the last video recorded of the STi for 2016 and it was recorded like 3 weeks before Thanksgiving lol. We fixed the up pipe pretty much as soon as we got home from the track. Took it into the shop and got it rewelded. Hopefully it holds up for the next Track day.
Y'all are locally in Houston am I correct? I have some questions because I'm currently in the process of getting a 04 wrx and would like to get your opinion thanks
the gas mileage has to be the tune being rich. I get 220-250 just city driving, with occasional spirited drives. I have got over 300 quite a few times with a mostly highway commute. Car5 is stock with a downpipe and cobb ots stage 2 map.
+manuel ferreira They are the Visual Autowerks Windows Vents. They draw out the hot air during track days where certain organizations require you to have your windows up.
I was waiting for one of you to say the the gas mileage because it sucks! I have the same car and I daily it but it drinks gas like a truck I hate it and it takes premium which sucks even more. But I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
+Smurfin Wagon I would say it's a good car to start off with. As long as you know what you are getting yourself into. If you want something more reliable, maybe go with a FRS or BRZ. Unless you are talking about a new WRX?
What rear defuser is that, i looked in the description then went to the forcewerks website but they dont have the one that you have with the curls on the side. Where can i get one cause id love one for my 04 Rex.
This is the one I have. Looks like they don't offer the CF version any more. If you do order keep in mind these are made to order. So it can take up to 4-6 weeks. (Maybe more)
Do Boy's Garage awesome thanks, yeah im in no rush and so dont have the money for it now. having a bigger turbo in mine really hits the fuel in the face. but ill take a look and go from there. thanks again.
I love the dba. They are amazing on the track. The Hawk HP+s squeal a lot though. Wouldn't recommend them for daily use. Are you talking about these specific rotors? OR two piece in general?
Do Boy's Garage those specific rotors cause I'm stuck whether to get the two piece or not. N yea I have the hawk pads n they squeak sometimes. But when they get hot they stop.
Mitchell Camacho I got these because I get a sponsorship price on DBA. Yes they do stop squealing if they get heated up. Problem is they won't ever get hot enough during daily driving unless I'm just always stopping on my brakes.
I have the Hawk HP+ as well. And yeah they never get hot enough during daily driving for me. That's why I got a sticker that says squeal because race brakes lol.
That's because you need also linkage and pivot bushings, pair that with a trans mount + crossmember group n bushes if you want... Mine is super killer now, no more fuckin' sloppy
Ohh jeez. I bet you are one of those guys who pull the ebrake up while pressing the button so it doesn't click because the metal on metal contact is "bad".... The car is off. It doesn't matter. if he puts it into gear without the clutch.
thats funny, i have a subaru liberty (Australia) even the factory ej25d driving like a granny i get shit economy the 5x100 wheels are blah!! ooh look those wheels would look good 5x114.5!!
Yeah he got rid of that thing a while ago. I don't see the problem any ways. He never even used it for his harnesses. He chassis mounted his harness. Hell, he never even called it a harness bar. He called it his "GoPro Bar" LOL.
Not sure if you fixed the shifter play while in gear but hoping this link helps you and others looking for a way to fix this. This is for the 05 wrx 5MT but they might have one for the sti turninconcepts.com/tic-5mt-linkage-update.html
Do Boy's Garage it's not just your car. every gd wrx/sti has that slop in the shift lever. mine included. turn in concepts makes an upgraded bushing set to correct the issue. I'll be getting them in spring.

Roland Augustus Garros I love Subaru just not the paint

Not "blood" brother. But I have known Marc of well over 10 years now. He might as well be my brother! lol
Well.., there"s always an awesome friend in our lives that like you said.., there might as well be !
enjoy your car man..!
put new bushings in for the shift linkage and the shift will get stiff
Jeez! The play in that shifter is no joke!
Yeah, it's no joke. I need to fix it.
Subscribed! Loved the walk around. I own an 05 STi, and agree with some of these pains. Car looks amazing!
+Israel Aguilar Thanks! wish I would have gotten the 5x114 like the 05s did.
Understeer is an issue. What sways are you running to try to eliminate some . The shifter is the pivot bushing and is super easy to do , don’t even have to get under the car.
These 5/10 Things I hate about my car videos are pretty popular for car you tubers right now.
AWHP Motorsports and out of them all, this is the only one that I liked.
Little tip for the bouncyness of the car : Buy the Tein EDFC Pro Active , its a little screen and 4 motors that you attach on the top of your suspension and it automatically sets the stiffness of your suspension or if you want to do it manually you could also do that

Nice where. What part of Texas are you from?
Born in Houston, raised in Missouri City. Went to high school in Pearland area.
I cannot believe the amount of play in your transmission. My 2003 gearbox still feels like new.
there are bushings in the shifter that need to be replaced sometimes on any standard subaru. once they're replaced the shifter is better than new. I've had a legacy and i currently have an Impreza and with both cars i needed to replace the bushings at some point.

Do Boy's Garage what kind of steering wheel is that
go watch his 1 year walk around
Oh man, let the internet hate begin! Lol, nice list. Totally agree with the gas mileage, and damn that shifter play!
Love the vid homie! Keep it up!
Thanks man!

All in all still a great build Anthony!
Thanks Thomas!
Nice video!!! I love the subie!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Chris!
Do Boy's Garage same bro it looks good
Y'all are locally in Houston am I correct? I have some questions because I'm currently in the process of getting a 04 wrx and would like to get your opinion thanks
the gas mileage has to be the tune being rich. I get 220-250 just city driving, with occasional spirited drives. I have got over 300 quite a few times with a mostly highway commute. Car5 is stock with a downpipe and cobb ots stage 2 map.
I prefer the touring style exhaust myself as well. But the invidia is lighter so I can see why he switched.
To each their own.
TiC kartboy shifter bushings and linkages👍 helps a lot, make sure to grease them nice tho
Fixing the shifter slop is easy and straight forward you just need new shifter bushings and linkage bushings made the slop on mine go away completely
So you cant fit in the seats at all Mark? Because I'm about the same size and wondering if I should find some different seats?
yes. i can fit, BUT i really have to wiggle myself in there and then i'm uncomfortable, and getting out is just plain funny to watch.
Great build guys!
Thanks!
Bad ring gap causing smoking? wish you guys clarified i'm having the same issue.
valve guide is seeping.
Great list!
My car smokes too lol but it’s running perfect and all fluids are perfect
Why don't you just zip tie the bumper so that it doesn't droop down
Dope high quality video
+Kylecantskate Thanks!
Great stuff 👍👍
Thanks Adrien!
could you fix that gear shifter problem with a new gear box?
why is it smoking? turbo seals going bad?
Bad valve seals
- Marc
Man that shifter play!
Yeah it's no joke! I need to fix it asap.
But, can you daily drive it reliably?
how are called the things that you have in the back window? and those are a direct entry on the cabin?
+manuel ferreira They are the Visual Autowerks Windows Vents. They draw out the hot air during track days where certain organizations require you to have your windows up.
Oh thanks! Great car btw!!!
No Problem. And Thanks!
Love the thumbnail photo ;)
:)
Is the smoking issue, the ring gap that you stated was to your specs in the build video?
Jersdunz No the smoking is from bad a bad vavle seal.
oh balls, thats almost as bad as the rings.. What was the spec you set your gap to?
where did you get your spoiler! I need one just like that one!!!!!
The roof spoiler?
We told you from the beginning that the splitter is for looks not for race.
Yup. Marc is pretty picky about splitters though. lol.
What are those metal inserts at the top of the rear window openings
I was waiting for one of you to say the the gas mileage because it sucks! I have the same car and I daily it but it drinks gas like a truck I hate it and it takes premium which sucks even more. But I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Lol. Yeah it has horrible MPGs! Even cruising.
Yeah mileage on my car is a joke too lmao I couldn't care less tho
Is a wrx a good first tuning car or is it to sensitive
+Smurfin Wagon I would say it's a good car to start off with. As long as you know what you are getting yourself into. If you want something more reliable, maybe go with a FRS or BRZ. Unless you are talking about a new WRX?
Grindin them gears i see
What is next for the car?
What rear defuser is that, i looked in the description then went to the forcewerks website but they dont have the one that you have with the curls on the side.

*Edit:
Looks like it won't let me post on external link.
Look up 02-07 VT Rear Diffuser on theri website
Do Boy's Garage awesome thanks, yeah im in no rush and so dont have the money for it now. having a bigger turbo in mine really hits the fuel in the face. but ill take a look and go from there.
thanks again.
Awesome Video
still a fast and fun machine nonetheless 👍
Viet D It really is!
Awesome!
I didn't know you bought Marc's car!!!
Yup!
What are the metal things on the windows called
Nice tires btw. I just bought firehawks indy 500's for my car
Yeah, that bumper would annoy me too if it was sagging like that.
Yeah it's pretty annoying.
I think your hood scoop is on the wrong way🤔 but it's a really nice car😏
Lol. Not exactly my favorite mod on the car. But It defiantly helps with temps on the track.
Hamad Marouch I assume he has a front mount, the scoop is used for heat to escape not enter, given he doesn't have a top mount. That'd be my guess.
But I love your car so much! How could anything be wrong with it! lol
How u like those dba rotors. N reason y u decided to get these two piece ?
I love the dba. They are amazing on the track. The Hawk HP+s squeal a lot though. Wouldn't recommend them for daily use. Are you talking about these specific rotors? OR two piece in general?
Do Boy's Garage those specific rotors cause I'm stuck whether to get the two piece or not. N yea I have the hawk pads n they squeak sometimes. But when they get hot they stop.

Do Boy's Garage oh ok nice. Thanks
but it's so beautiful
Nice motor fellas
Why is the car smoking?
valve guide is seeping.
Chassis mount that front splitter! 😆
it is, just not very well lol
ah that's right. i remember watching your video a while back on it. hehe
Where did you get that Blastoise T-Shirt?
Arcade Block. Which BTW has way better customer service than Tuner Crate ;) Lol
Man that seat is a tight fit in the car.
Yup. The shoulders need to be a bit more narrow.
Duude, why does your shifter feels so sloppy? Don't you have shifter bushings already installed??
NiceCarsItaly I just put ins cobs shifter bushings on my 04 and the slop is just about the same, going into gears is just super crisp.
*cobbs
That's because you need also linkage and pivot bushings, pair that with a trans mount + crossmember group n bushes if you want... Mine is super killer now, no more fuckin' sloppy
NiceCarsItaly I installed the pivot and linkage bushings and it's still got slop so idk. Oh well.
I do have the shifter bushings. I plan on getting a short shifter soon. So hopefully the new pivot bushing that comes with that fixes my issue.
170 miles per tank? DAMN
Stock STI 05 ranges 280-320 a tank ;)
maybe you should stop shifting while the car is off and not pressing the clutch Just saying ..
Ohh jeez. I bet you are one of those guys who pull the ebrake up while pressing the button so it doesn't click because the metal on metal contact is "bad".... The car is off. It doesn't matter. if he puts it into gear without the clutch.
Don't use the car, it can get worn out.
Cool
I'll take it off your hands !
Lol prolly the best reply I have gotten yet
Do Boy's Garage I live in Texas my friends, and I know I'll treat that little lady with respect till she runs smooth like a lions purrrr.
lmao when u said go **** urself, i think if the y go direct injection it will be able to make more power and get better mpgs
Lol. Maybe one day they will scrap the shitty EJ and make a more powerful FA for the STi.
one day lol,i heard the sales of the sti are on the low thsese years after the fa powered wrx came out, maybe subaru would respond to that
Oh and which TEIN do you have??
Tein Flex.
How can you fix the play in the shifter?
short shifter.
ED new shifter bushings. Kartboy makes a whole kit to replace all of them. Had to do it in my STI as my shifter play was the same as in the video.
Jared Morphy any vids showing how to do it??
thats funny, i have a subaru liberty (Australia)
even the factory ej25d driving like a granny i get shit economy
the 5x100 wheels are blah!! ooh look those wheels would look good 5x114.5!!
Ah man I'm watching and I like oh I like .... Everything 😂 I want it all 😂
Lol. They are more nitpicks than hate.
one thing i dislike about your car that i have yet to hear a response about from you anthony is the harness bar. It needs to go......
Middleton Films Actually if you follow his IG you'll know he sold that thing well over a month ago now.
This is for the 05 wrx 5MT but they might have one for the sti
turninconcepts.com/tic-5mt-linkage-update.html
yo someone stole your thumbnail idk if you can search it up but i don't remember which big youtube stole it.
+OpressivePeach I don't think I can search for thumbnails but if you happen to remember which channel it was please let us know. Thanks!
- Marc
1:28 install a Short Shifter and thats all
you’re not smart
Cool Video.
I don't hate anything about your car!
Thanks Liz :)
Name of song at end?
The Invidia is 100x better than the touring one.
I agree!
where the hell did you get that amazing shirt
Maybe cutting your nails. Would make this vid less cringe!
Bearings.
give it here then
How is it not a real splitter?
It's made with cheaper more flexible material. It's more for show than go.
+Do Boy's Garage anthony.....tsk tsk tsk...............😑
Middleton Films #1 Rule about sponsorships: never complain about free parts :). At least not until you are clear of the sponsorship.
I know you track your car but jesus the gear play, never owned a car with that much play. what does it drive like?
Daily driving it's fine. It's on the track when it becomes an issue. I really need to get it fixed. Might be the first thing I fix from this list.
Do Boy's Garage it's not just your car. every gd wrx/sti has that slop in the shift lever. mine included. turn in concepts makes an upgraded bushing set to correct the issue. I'll be getting them in spring.
Crap engine cant go beyond factory modification reliably without getting a sealed or reinforced cylinder tubes. Just simple as that. Even if u just put a single mod as an aftermarket downpipe on a car its pretty much fucked in short period of time. Guess what you just over boosted it and its bye bye engine without proper ecu tune.
new camera?
Yeah. It's the T6i
the shifter is basic subaru shit. mine does the same thing and its annoying. youre better off replacing the entire shifter
honestly that hood vent is also pretty ugly
LMAO! Whats gas milage!
LOL!
I mean it's a Subaru. It's a piece of shit.
You are missing a center cap lol
the center cap melted after the last track day.
VALVE
SEAL
Bleh American car mods are ... questionable
is that trump from hearthstone?? lol
Little Subie Never heard of either of those things till today. had to Google it.... holy hell....LOL
By the way good video :)
