Good list. I would put Syrio above Brienne, considering she struggled against Arya. Also Jon Snow should be dropped down to #10, maybe even replaced by Daario Naharis imo.
By the time Arya and Brianne crossed swords - Arya was without a doubt, one of the greatest trained killers on the continent. Brianne had no clue what she was facing, let's be honest, Arya dosen't LOOK particularly dangerous. and it REALLY did a mind job on her during that little sparring session. It would be like kicking what you think is a housecat... but it turns out it's a fuckin honeybadger wearing a cat costume.
Still, I would switch his place with Jon Snow. The narrator said that Bronn killing "ordinary soldiers" is a bad thing, however Jon doing the same with undead (which are dumber imho) made him a skilled warrior.
I say it all the time. It doesn't matter if I beat you with my fists, hit you with a baseball bat, or shoot you with a gun... If I'm the one still standing at the end of the fight, I won.
Like Rick Flair said, If you want to be the Man, you gotta beat the Man! 100% in agreement with you. That was clear when Jaime tried to get Ned to enter the Tournament when he arrived in Kings Landing.
True i agree if it wzsnt for the confession the mountain would be long gone, telling me that the mountain would kill him in one swing if he catched him, well he didnt and he technicaly died with all those wounds if it wasnt for the i forgot his name who rivived him as a zombie rather than his olderself, obreyn was supreme he toyed with the mountain he didnt dodge his attack, if it wasnt for the confession or to make the mountain suffer he would of end him in 30s.
All hang off gerorge r Martin saying ned was average. If ned was average then dayne and Jamie ain't as good as we believe. They should of dispatched average ned far quicker and efficiently than the show would have us believe.
What about the fact that Oberyn technically beat the mountain and would’ve killed him if he just shut up, yet he isn’t on the list. He would also wipe the floor with Jon and probably a few others on this list.
This topic and list IS one of the reasons I want to see a show about Robert's Rebellion. Seeing the likes of Arthur Dayne, a young Barristan Selmy, a young Jaime Lannister, a young Robert Baratheon, a young Oberyn Martell, basically a young anyone, from Ned to Stannis, from Tywin to Blackfish, seeing Rhaegar, seeing the Mad King Aerys, Brandon and Rickard Stark, the rest of that insane Kingsguard that Aerys had buth more than that, seeing all these characters interact would be amazing. It could easily be a 4 season show, that could start with Rhaegar being born at the tragedy of Summerhall, go through the War of the Ninepenny kings (the last Blackfire Rebellion), defiance of Duskendale, finishing off the Kingwood Brotherhood, the tourney at Harrenhall with all the details, the tourney at Lannisport, Tywin resignation as Hand, the Rhaefar and Lyanna gimic, the execution of Rickard and Brandon Stark, badically seeing all the small details that led on to Robert's Rebellion, the rebellion itself and all the fights from Ashford to the siege of Storm's End to the battle of the Bells and the battle of the Trident, the Sack of King's Landing, the death of Aerys and finishing the series with Robert's coronation, naming Jon Arryn as Hand and Robert's wedding with Cersei while seeing the children Viserys and newborn Daenerys arrive in Pentos. This would be a dream show. Even for all who know the story it would be an amazing thing to see. I hope it gets made in my lifetime.
Absolutely, man. Robert’s Rebellion era is peak Westeros.I wish we could see it too, but sadly GRRM won’t write those stories in full . those moments were meant to stay as legendary memories from the past. And honestly, even if someone tried to finish it, I’d be worried… no one can capture his vision the same way, and directors might end up ruining the myth instead of honoring it.
I cannot agree more, basically seeing everyone in their prime (or getting close to it in the case of Jaime/Oberyn) will a slam dunk of a show, a guaranteed hit.
George RR will never finish the books, pretty sure he has his a writing wall, written himself into a corner with so many moving parts that even he don’t know where to go how to finish it , that’s why he keeps pushing it back an writing an doing other crap not related to GOT
I think Ned takes that fight easily tbh. I love Bron but his short sword and dagger vs Ned with his massive long sword and could fivht against Dayne who was the greatest swordsman plus had 2 swords
@TheLoudBird5051 Who would win between Bronn and Dayne though? Dayne probably, but it would be cool to see. Between Ned and Bronn though, I think Bronn would destroy Ned.
In my oppinion jorah mormont doesnt get enough credit.. he killed a dotharki blood rider in single combat, he killed a bravosi water dancer in the pits of mereen, slayed multiple westerosi knights while being 1st or 2nd between him and thoros to breach the walls of pike. He fought in roberts rebellion being knighted by robert baratheon...he could probably take dario and greyworm in a hard won fight..i think jorah has more experience against differnt styles of swordsmenship that cant be denied and for danny he can take the mountian out...and thats what makes him a dark horse because when properly motivated hes as good as any knight in westeros
Mountain would make short work of him, he was struggling even with that blood rider but got lucky because the Dothraki got his Arrakh trapped in Jorah's armour, else he was dominating Jorah throughout the fight.
@danaberry3568you are right...but he survived and im sure he learned enough from that experience to not be put in that situation again... remember there was also a dotharki screamer in that pit which im rememberimg he killed rather quickly....now i do agree with you hes not the fighter jaimie is or honorable as ned but he is a cagey guy that stays alive and with the proper motivation hes brilliant
I’m so glad Syrio Forel wasn’t forgotten. He had a very small part in 1 season but still could take on many of the gold cloaks simultaneously. Very impressive.
Jamie's fight against Ned has to be remembered with the fact that Ned is much older at this time and Jamie is in his prime. What I would have given to have seen Ned and Jamie fight both in their prime
Also remember Jamie can only look as good in the show as his actor is with a sword . Book Jamie would destroy ned. In the books prime selmy, dayne, the mountain and the hounds are the only ones that could probably beat Jamie in a sword fight. Prime robert and oberyn as well if they can use their war hammer/ spear
@blabla61908that becomes a bit of a problem given how he was handling Jaime. Idk though, perhaps Jaime was just trying to get a feel for Ned and the fact the fight was stipped short gives Ned plausible deniability that it the fight went on he may have gotten schooled. Kind of holds up since that happened with Jakme vs Brienne
I'd go with Bronn for the winner of that one, but it would be very close. Maybe just because I like Bronn, I dunno. Karl Tanner was an incredibly good fighter. Also a paid assassin so he really knew a lot about killing.
I feel like Arthur would be that guy who wakes up in the morning and says I've got to be faster after hearing about how some bravoce dance masters fight without armor for speed
Thanks, it was bothering me too. I remember kopesh was listed as a sub-class of scimitar in the 1st ed AD&D Player's Handbook. The classic kopesh, from what I've seen of them, are a little less like a sickle than Drogo's sword and a little straighter. But it's still probably the most accurate term for what Drogo used.
He lost to the mountain but to be fair, it was meant to be a joust, and Loras was already on the ground. And yet he survived the brute force of the mountain with a small shield. So yes, Loras deserves a spot. Can he beat Brienne? I think probably yes.
Move the Mountain down because you said this was mainly about skill. Jorah Mormont fought (and won) in the Pitts. Raegar Targaryen may not have been featured on the show, but we know he trained with Sir Dayne.
Not really. It became clear early on that for whatever reason the only compassion that the hound had was for females. I never got the feeling that he fought hard against brienna, the bad ass though she was.
@The_Greenseer"I just saw the Dothraki fight. They'll beat any mercenary army, they'll beat any army I've ever seen. Killing our men wasn't war for them, it was sport" and the most fearsome and legendary fighter of them was Khal Drogo. So how would he be better than Drogo
@abung7423 they where ambushed facing the Dothraki army while still in marching column. Also remember what King Robert said? "only a fool would fight the dothraki in an open field" They faced the Dothraki and a dragon that day. Anyone would be traumatized in Jaime's place.
Reminds me of "Mournblade" from the Elric books. Martin borrowed a lot from Michael Moorcock. A race of white-haired emperors who ruled the surrounding kingdoms from their island stronghold and who were feared for their dragons ... ring a bell?
Loras Tyrell needs to be in this list, though his older brother Garlan Tyrell (a book only character) is arguably the better swordsman. If you would be looking at best fighters and not only the best swordsmen, I'd say Robert Baratheon, Areo Hotah and Victarion Greyjoy (book only character) would also make the list.
You’re absolutely right this list was based only on the show version. Book only characters like Garlan and Victarion deserve their own list, and I’m definitely considering a books only ranking later
@The_Greenseerwell, you added Khal Drogo, but he is not a swordsman because he does not fight with a traditional sword. Instead, he uses an arakh, a curved Dothraki blade that resembles a mix of a sickle and a short scythe rather than a standard sword like a longsword or arming sword. The arakh is designed mainly for powerful slashing attacks, especially while riding a horse, which fits the mounted combat style of the Dothraki. Because of this, Khal Drogo is more accurately described as a Dothraki warrior or arakh fighter rather than a classical swordsman.
I have the same question. Where would she rank, considering her disadvantages in being half or a third the size of her enemies and Needle being a smallsword, if that?
Thoros and Beric Dondarrion are arguably better than bronn, drogo and jon. Thoros beat the hound in a melee tournament once in the books and Beric went toe to toe with the hound aswell
I'm surprised everyone labels the mountain as a great swordsman. He wouldn't change much with or without a sword. His strength is in his muscles, not his sword. He's very slow, his attacks are slow; any average swordsman could kill him if he fights carefully
Idk Arik, I think there's lots of factors in a 1v1, The mountain is HUGE, Inducing fear into the opponent, Because any opponent knows that 1 hit = death I think size is also related to durability in movies, So he's like a tank, He can take a few slashes before going down
Lol dude bronn literly turned down the fight with him because he's surprisingly fast for how big he is. When your dealing with a person of that size, the reach they have on you is massive. Nevermind the fact he's swinging a 6 foot sword that gives him even more of a reach advantage. So let say you close the gap on him. You are now in grabbing distance of a man that can one shot you with punch. He's not technically a very good fighter, but his size, speed and generally psychotic disposition makes him much more dangerous then most of the swordsman in the 7 kingdoms.
@sidharthek Her main style of combat is attacking weak/unarmed points of her enemy, The Mountain is well armored + fast, Arya is strong and I like her, But honestly the mountain would kill her While she was training with Brienne, She always aimed at her neck, I highly doubt she can get THAT close to the Mountain, Because unlike Brienne, His hands are also a lethal weapon
Sometimes I enjoy seeing/hearing how absolutely clueless these robo-rank videos are. It's not even the bad choices that make me laugh. It's contradictions that come one after another. Example: Brienne was proof that honor could win out over dirty tactics. The very next sentence robot says the best example was her fight with The Hound. SHE HIGH CROTCHED HIM IN THE BALLS, BIT THE MAN'S EAR OFF, AND KILLED HIM WITH A ROCK! So honorable tactics, right? 🤣
@raufyakubu343 Arya was a great fighter, her combat skills during the undead siege of Winterfell shows that, but wasn't her fight with Brien a draw in which, had they not stopped they would have each killed the other?
@Fadhil_. Ned always said he held back because he didn't want people to know what he could do. He held his own against a two-handed Jaime, to the point where the Lannister guards intervened because they thought Ned was winning. That has to count for something.
U literally ranked Briene among Jon Snow 🤦 He was able to kill night walker but Briene was only able to kill the deads. Jon snow needs justice in your list
I think you did really well with this ranking. Pretty close to how I would have ranked them. There are 2 others that I think may have deserved honorable mention, or in the top 10. Jorah Mormont and Daario Naharis. I would actually consider Daario at around 5 or 6
Aemon Targaryen, Daemon I Blackfyre, Sandoq the Shadow, Oberyn Martell, Strong Belwas. These names are among those who deserve to be in the top 10 list.
Jon is a fan favorite and one of my own favorites too. honestly, I took a risk placing him there, I ranked strictly by sword skill, not love or popularity.
Bronn is my favorite GoT character so I am probably biased but he should be higher than 10. He was described as like a panther I think so he’s probably faster than most people think he is.
This list has done Ned Stark and Injustice. He should have been included around somewhere around 6 to 4 if his fight with Jaime Lannister meant anything at all.
8:28 it’s made very clear in the books the Jon wouldn’t stand a chance against the halfhand in a real fight. It was described like a dance the he was being led through like a clumsy child.
True, the books make it clear Jon couldn’t touch the Halfhand. But their final fight wasn’t a real duel Qhorin sacrificed himself to help Jon earn the wildlings’ trust.
I forget whether the show made it clear that Qhorin lost on purpose and that it was pre-arranged. In the books it was pretty clear, although Jon was surprised that Qhorin made it look so "real". I was definitely under the impression that Jon was not skilled enough to beat Qhorin in a fair fight, at the time.
I''m glad It was mentioned here because see a lot of people forgetting Sandor fought Brienne whilst dead on his feet severely weakened by sickness but also I believe she had a Valryian steel sword which Isn't mentioned here ?
Robert Baratheon did NOT fight with a war hammer, no matter what his weapon is called in the books or show. His weapon was ACTUALLY a maul. According to Google: "A war hammer is a one-handed, specialized weapon with a smaller head and often a spike for armor penetration, while a maul is a large, two-handed hammer, similar to a sledgehammer, that primarily deals blunt force damage. The war hammer is designed for combat, while the maul originated as a large, two-handed tool for splitting wood or driving stakes that was also used as a weapon."
Karl Tanner beat Jon Snow and got saved by a women. Growing up in slums and having to fight just to eat would make you a better fighter than some of these people who come from rich families.
Jon and Karl fought in a house where Jon's long sword put him at a severe disadvantage, the same fight out in the yard would have ended very quickly in Jon's favour.
Good list.
I would put Syrio above Brienne, considering she struggled against Arya. Also Jon Snow should be dropped down to #10, maybe even replaced by Daario Naharis imo.
🤡🤣
By the time Arya and Brianne crossed swords - Arya was without a doubt, one of the greatest trained killers on the continent.

and it REALLY did a mind job on her during that little sparring session.
It would be like kicking what you think is a housecat... but it turns out it's a fuckin honeybadger wearing a cat costume.
But Brienne beat the Hound? This list is all over the place.
@trate1609 The Hound was sick when their fight took place - days of having the trots when it happened.
I think its shit. Maybe some of the names are good but terrible orders.
Bronn is the epitome of "if you find yourself in a fair fight you've made a tactical mistake"
Still, I would switch his place with Jon Snow. The narrator said that Bronn killing "ordinary soldiers" is a bad thing, however Jon doing the same with undead (which are dumber imho) made him a skilled warrior.
I would put Bron top 3 personally
Bronn had more plot armor than most characters. Dude shouldnt be in the top 20
I say it all the time. It doesn't matter if I beat you with my fists, hit you with a baseball bat, or shoot you with a gun... If I'm the one still standing at the end of the fight, I won.
Believing a fight outside of doing it for a living is at all fair IS the tactical mistake. 😅
I always felt like Jaime really wanted to fight ned because he thought he bested Arthur dane and craved the challenge
Like Rick Flair said, If you want to be the Man, you gotta beat the Man! 100% in agreement with you. That was clear when Jaime tried to get Ned to enter the Tournament when he arrived in Kings Landing.
Oh he did. GRR Martin confirmed as much
when bronn was on screen i was more attentitive and already knew i am going to laugh
"Nah, Bro. We're doing cardio today" is wild asf
whom did he mention bro?
Never let this man cook a tierlist again 😭
1- Quorin Halfhand LET John Snow kill him
2- the mountain didn't wear Oberyn down. Oberyn wanted a confession before killing him and got distracted
Also I think the top three should be number three Lannister, number 2 Oberyn, and then Aria at number 1
@CraigMichaelCurticeArya? Yeah you lost your opinion card.
@CraigMichaelCurticeArya is not a traditional swordfighter, she's more of a assassin
Exactly. Oberyn could have won in 30 seconds if that was his only goal.
And yes, the Halfhand ordered Jon to kill him.
Because Ned was struggling against the number one ranked guy means he's not ranked at all?
And he also gave a hard time to the number 3.
All hang off gerorge r Martin saying ned was average. If ned was average then dayne and Jamie ain't as good as we believe. They should of dispatched average ned far quicker and efficiently than the show would have us believe.
@siwakeman1266 I wasn't aware that Martin stated that Ned was average. When did he do that?
@rado9815 he beat almost i rewatch agian 5 month ago and he almost beat in single fight
What about the fact that Oberyn technically beat the mountain and would’ve killed him if he just shut up, yet he isn’t on the list. He would also wipe the floor with Jon and probably a few others on this list.
Jon ranked 8 is fucking wild.
Skilled or not john snow had the best sword fights in the entire series
He is my favourite character ❤
I have it on good authority that he knew nothing.
Also the thickest plot armour!
It misses rob Stark
Too bad in show they are wielding swords like a bats. Can we get even one good realistic swordfight? So many years and yet...
Don't give George R.R. Martin any more ideas. We're still waiting (11+years now) for him to finish the original series instead of his side projects.
I imagine Rhagar will remind us of Rob
I cannot agree more, basically seeing everyone in their prime (or getting close to it in the case of Jaime/Oberyn) will a slam dunk of a show, a guaranteed hit.
George RR will never finish the books, pretty sure he has his a writing wall, written himself into a corner with so many moving parts that even he don’t know where to go how to finish it , that’s why he keeps pushing it back an writing an doing other crap not related to GOT
Bron and his lack of honor and his outcome vs Ned stark and his honor and his outcome 🥶
Khal Drogo v Oberyn Martell would of been an epic fight.
Number 1 without question sir Arthur Dane
Its Arthur Dayne with a y
Too bad the only time we see him he is using the dumb two sword shtick.
@majortomtogcit’s cool but definitely goofy. It’s a fantasy so I imagine this guy is just so cool that it makes sense.
Viper, Hound, prime Baristan would challenge him
@CvrckoPrckoviche can defeat any 2 of them in 1v2 without breaking a sweat😂
In my oppinion jorah mormont doesnt get enough credit.. he killed a dotharki blood rider in single combat, he killed a bravosi water dancer in the pits of mereen, slayed multiple westerosi knights while being 1st or 2nd between him and thoros to breach the walls of pike. @eternal9289again he lived...thats the point you keep missing🤷🏿
Got to disagree slightly: Jorah didn't kill the water dancer, he got owned by the dancer until the spearman stabbed dancer in the back.
You are bugging 🤣🤣🤣not the Jorah we saw in the series
Where the hell is
Jorah Mormont
Ned Stark and
Thoros of Myr ???
The seige of Pyke tells us how great and underrated Thoros of Myr is !!
Plus in the books, Thoros won the melee event of the king’s tourney… with a little help from lighting is blade on fire, of course. ❤
@hondawilky Also in the books Mance Rayder would be ranked above Jon since he dog walked him in the sparing session they had.
That was in the books bro. We are talking about the show. What was actually what made the books famous and no otherwise.
I don't think this list is far off just considering swordsmanship, make it about the deadliest fighters and this list changes dramatically!
Arya Stark played with Brianne of Tarth in the final season. She is not ranked?
No 11 may be 😂
Needle category.
Lol
What about Ser Jorah Mormont ? 🗿
Jorah was close, honestly. It was between him and Bronn for n° 10 Bronn just edged him out for survivability
number 1 simp and mediocre fighter😂😂
When queen in dangerous, Ser Jorah will overwhelming, sure better than jon.
Not the Jorah we saw in the series 🤣🤣 can’t be
2:32 Jymee Lannister
😂😂😂😂
😂😂
The narrator apparently thinks the Lannisters came from Australia.
Got me weak 💀
It took so long for me to understand that Yami and Rhamie are Jaime Lannister LOL
I’m so glad Syrio Forel wasn’t forgotten. He had a very small part in 1 season but still could take on many of the gold cloaks simultaneously. Very impressive.
He took them even with a wooden sword.
@gouravp.3851I never understood why didn't he took one of the swords from the men he had just defeated and kept wielding the wooden sword
@brunotartari675That's something worth discussing.
@brunotartari675 plot
And then he was killed by Meryn Fucking Trant...
So your admitting Barriston Selmy was the best. He was much older then Ned.
It even says in the shows in the flashbacks Ned was never the greatest swordsman. Obviously he was good but not top tier
Lmao both in their prime Jamie beats him easily
@blabla61908that becomes a bit of a problem given how he was handling Jaime. Idk though, perhaps Jaime was just trying to get a feel for Ned and the fact the fight was stipped short gives Ned plausible deniability that it the fight went on he may have gotten schooled. Kind of holds up since that happened with Jakme vs Brienne
Sir Arthur Dane "The Sword of The Morning" number 1
Bronn vs Karl Tanner The Flea Bottom legend would have been fun to see 😂
I'd go with Bronn for the winner of that one, but it would be very close.
Drogo's weapon is actually called a "Kopesh" despite what they called it in the show. It is originally an Egyptian "sickle-type" sword.
In real life you cannot cut plate armor with sword. It only happens in movies and shows.
Who said you have to ? ...
@manopapadopoulos6043I just said in movied and shows it is shown wrong
Yea that is one thing in movies that annoys me when they act like armor is weak but it really is very strong
@Zac-swordsWeak
@Zac-swordsweak not week
I am surprised that Dario Naharis is not in the list 😮😮
No one in the list 😂😂😂
I saw a old man at dollar general the other day he had a pony tail in rubber bands that was past his belt loops.... I wanted to ask him his record 🤔
He got whacked by Ray Shoesmith a few days after you saw him.
the way Barristan died in the show was simply insulting tbh
Somehow, I strongly feel LORAS TYRELL should be somewhere on this list. He was admitted in the show as being better than most other knights.
He lost to the mountain but to be fair, it was meant to be a joust, and Loras was already on the ground. And yet he survived the brute force of the mountain with a small shield.
So yes, Loras deserves a spot. Can he beat Brienne? I think probably yes.
@bluebehirbrienne beat him
@14:36 - Brienne was actually knighted before the battle against the dead, not after it.
Jorah Mormont: What about me?
Great list.
Bronn is my favorite ! such a cool and realistic dude
Move the Mountain down because you said this was mainly about skill. Jorah Mormont fought (and won) in the Pitts. Raegar Targaryen may not have been featured on the show, but we know he trained with Sir Dayne.
Arthur should have his own movie
Good List. But its weird to put someone at place 4 that lost a direct duel against place 6
He was just surviving with Arya and I don't think was well fed for a surprising combat
Not really. It became clear early on that for whatever reason the only compassion that the hound had was for females. I never got the feeling that he fought hard against brienna, the bad ass though she was.
Bron is like batman, he can beat anyone if you give him time to plan.
No Robert Beratheon or Oberyn?? Easily top 10 for both.
Everyone was afraid of the Dothraki and jorah defeated the Dothraki blood in one second, jorah is underrated.
Have you remember what Jammie told Cersie with fear when he returned from Olena
Remind me what part you mean exactly
@The_Greenseer"I just saw the Dothraki fight. They'll beat any mercenary army, they'll beat any army I've ever seen. Killing our men wasn't war for them, it was sport"
and the most fearsome and legendary fighter of them was Khal Drogo. So how would he be better than Drogo
@abung7423 lol, what? Jaime feared of dragons and the dothraki army. Not Drogo. Drogo is already dead at that time.
@abung7423and jaime killed multiple dothraki while one handed
@abung7423 they where ambushed facing the Dothraki army while still in marching column.
Also remember what King Robert said? "only a fool would fight the dothraki in an open field"
They faced the Dothraki and a dragon that day. Anyone would be traumatized in Jaime's place.
Khal drogo defnitely in the top 3. That guy was insane. 😅
“The Sword of the Morning (or Mourning)” is such a cool name
Reminds me of "Mournblade" from the Elric books. Martin borrowed a lot from Michael Moorcock. A race of white-haired emperors who ruled the surrounding kingdoms from their island stronghold and who were feared for their dragons ... ring a bell?
honorable mention, Daario Naharis
Bronn reminds me of Jayne in Firefly. "I'll kill a man in a fair fight. Or if I think he's going to start a fair fight."
Yeah, perfect match 😅
Gotta agree.
How tf did Arya not make the list? She made Brienne look like a rookie.
@The_Greenseer Cregan Stark as well. Probably top 5 all time of Westeros.
Finally the list which I can agree. Watched multiple GOT tier list over last years, but this is the best!
Jhon is Born to be king not The Swords man
I would like to see a list of top 10 fighters regardless of weapon type
Loras Tyrell? He was in the books a famous swordsman. One of the best.
Thats true, but i ranked based on show + book hints + grrm’s words. Book Loras is a beast, he’d be higher if it was fully book-focused.
Brienne beats Loras.
bro really didn't add Robert Baratheon...
I explained in the video that he is a good as a hammer fighter more than swordman , and this list is only swordsmen !!
@TimVeinyeah , u have a point , as u said arakh isn't technically a sword but its so close to more than any type of armory . So its counted
@The_Greenseer Okay. Overall, I agree with the video, so thank you.
@The_Greenseer Okay. Overall, I agree with the video, so thank you.
Arthur Dayne never wielded 2 swords. Dawn is a two handed greatsword in the books. It was a stupid change and very bad scene in my opinion.
No dawn was a longsword but it was incredibly light due to being forged from extra terrestrial material
@ellenrobbins1807 Swords, especially longswords, are not heavy. They were made for speed and precision.
Thank you, now i have to watch the series again...
how can you not mention Arya stark?
I have the same question. Where would she rank, considering her disadvantages in being half or a third the size of her enemies and Needle being a smallsword, if that?
The like button💀
Thoros and Beric Dondarrion are arguably better than bronn, drogo and jon. Thoros beat the hound in a melee tournament once in the books and Beric went toe to toe with the hound aswell
Drogo toying with his opponent really worked out well for him.
I'm surprised everyone labels the mountain as a great swordsman. He wouldn't change much with or without a sword. His strength is in his muscles, not his sword. He's very slow, his attacks are slow; any average swordsman could kill him if he fights carefully
Not average swordsman
Idk Arik, I think there's lots of factors in a 1v1, The mountain is HUGE, Inducing fear into the opponent, Because any opponent knows that 1 hit = death
I think size is also related to durability in movies, So he's like a tank, He can take a few slashes before going down
Lol dude bronn literly turned down the fight with him because he's surprisingly fast for how big he is.
Arya can kill him for sure. She's very fast, tactical and small.
@sidharthek
Her main style of combat is attacking weak/unarmed points of her enemy, The Mountain is well armored + fast, Arya is strong and I like her, But honestly the mountain would kill her
While she was training with Brienne, She always aimed at her neck, I highly doubt she can get THAT close to the Mountain, Because unlike Brienne, His hands are also a lethal weapon
Dayne’s portrayal in the series was absolutely brilliant.
Hound never fought Brienne in books! He would have defeated Brienne!
The Hound was malnourished and tired
please rank top 20 any type of fighters in game of thrones with any style or weapon
Bro forgot to mention Rhegar Targerian one of the finest sowrds man
Great job explaing the list. Aria Stark needs to be on there somewhere
Arya Stark is underrated. If Arya Stark defeated Brienne then she should be ranked above her.
@raufyakubu343 Arya was a great fighter, her combat skills during the undead siege of Winterfell shows that, but wasn't her fight with Brien a draw in which, had they not stopped they would have each killed the other?
You have to realize some of them were badass but age is a huge difference as well!!!! Jorah Mormont was a frickin legend and badass man!!!!!!
This list is bull crap. We all know Podrick was the greatest swordsman in Game of Thrones
Ser arthur dayne is best
no denying that
Nobody here got the joke, and that’s sad
not that sword
He did may things with his sword
He also did a great job playing Woodes Rodgers in black sails. Shame GOT only portrayed this small scene w this man-great actor imo
I am missing Ned Stark in this list, probably somwhere around 4th place
Ned Stark was mentioned twice...being nowhere near as good as Jaime and being totally outclassed by Arthur Dayne.
Nwd wasn't even close mate. As a battlefield commander, he would be top 5 at the least, but swordsman, nowhere in the top 50...
ned was like robb, they are great battlefield commander, but in 1-1 sword duel? nah
@Fadhil_. Ned always said he held back because he didn't want people to know what he could do. He held his own against a two-handed Jaime, to the point where the Lannister guards intervened because they thought Ned was winning. That has to count for something.
You forgot sir duncan the tall
U literally ranked Briene among Jon Snow 🤦 He was able to kill night walker but Briene was only able to kill the deads. Jon snow needs justice in your list
Jon was average swordman in the books, show made him too overpowered.
There is no question that Brienne is better at the sword than Jon
@michaelh9649in the show your statement is blasphemous
Nah it's a good list
@DonQuixoteThe28th no it's not. And the video perfectly explained why.
Nice list
JOHN SNOW should be ranked higher
Jon is a fan favorite and one of my own favorites too. honestly, I took a risk placing him there, I ranked strictly by sword skill, not love or popularity.
@The_Greenseer and you are right cause after watching whole season jon is good leader Ned and above agrage knight
Bronn is my favorite GoT character so I am probably biased but he should be higher than 10. He was described as like a panther I think so he’s probably faster than most people think he is.
John Snow has less experience, but he does have a +5 vorpal sword.
For honorable mentions I would mention Oswalt Whent, Gerold Hightower and Bronze Yohn Royce.
This list has done Ned Stark and Injustice. He should have been included around somewhere around 6 to 4 if his fight with Jaime Lannister meant anything at all.
John snow is no. 3
No
For me, Jon worst than Ser Jorah.
Dude you crushed this im only halfway. Great work my good sir.❤
Glad you're enjoying it, man!💙
Oberyn Martel was playing with the mountain if he did not want confession he would have easily killed him he should be in the list.
He's not a swordsman...
Oberyn with a spear (which he used more like a glaive) was deadly. But we don't get to see him use a sword, so who knows if he was a good swordsman?
The sword of the morning 🔥
He was very green when he 'fought' halfhand, he had years of growth and tough fighting after that to be fair.
@dhirajpallin2572 The show displayed Qhorin losing on purpose to John.
Not having Ned or Robb is a joke
Why isn’t Ned stark in this list
Because Ned stark isn’t that great of a swordsman. He doesn’t have that many notable feats.
Ned’s a great lord, not a duelist. If Arthur Dayne wasn’t busy getting stabbed from behind, Ned wouldn’t last a minute
Ned is a great commander but an average fighter.
@danielledford2195 did you watch that he fought with arthur dayne almost equally
😂😂😂😂
Had my problems with the list but decided to keep watching, then he said coming in at #6 Bri... sorry I'm gone before RUclips puts you in my algorithm
the show means nothing. only the books actual descriptions count, but the list is still fairly decent overall
Yup he fucking called jamie hymie Lannister 😭😂
There should be a place for Arya Stark.
I''m glad It was mentioned here because see a lot of people forgetting Sandor fought Brienne whilst dead on his feet severely weakened by sickness but also I believe she had a Valryian steel sword which Isn't mentioned here ?
Ayria deserves to be on the list. She was perhaps the best apprentice of Syrio Forel. She beat Briane, who beat the Hound.
The "sword" distinction doesn't matter. Should be the best overall fighters etc.
Very disappointed that Arya didn’t make the cut 🤦🏽♂️
Arya with needle 😭😂
Man shut up lol
@GoDLin45Arya can use a regular blade also, plus other weapons taught to her by the faceless men. But this is blade only lol.
She was a great killer, not a great sword fighter.
and her father too
I'm not going to fight my talk-to-text to make a comment here.
Robert Baratheon did NOT fight with a war hammer, no matter what his weapon is called in the books or show. His weapon was ACTUALLY a maul. According to Google:
"A war hammer is a one-handed, specialized weapon with a smaller head and often a spike for armor penetration, while a maul is a large, two-handed hammer, similar to a sledgehammer, that primarily deals blunt force damage. The war hammer is designed for combat, while the maul originated as a large, two-handed tool for splitting wood or driving stakes that was also used as a weapon."
" a maul is a large, two-handed hammer"
How is that not a war hammer? It's just bigger.
@smiffm428because the maker of the weapon names it. And clearly they are different.
@EVICIOUS13 Who do you think made it?
Karl Tanner deserves a place
Karl Tanner beat Jon Snow and got saved by a women. Growing up in slums and having to fight just to eat would make you a better fighter than some of these people who come from rich families.
Well said , but this is westeros after all
Jon Snow wasn't the complete fighter at the point Tanner bested him.
Jon and Karl fought in a house where Jon's long sword put him at a severe disadvantage, the same fight out in the yard would have ended very quickly in Jon's favour.
BS.
