And the virtual reality plot - which was something that worked for the show as people using computers for evil was a very common element - think Ides of Metropolis - was a great way to have it both ways - give us the hot scene, and yet, have "that" not really happen until later - but it also shows us how much they both wanted it. They also had it both ways with Clark - he has waited for the right person, Lois, of course, to consummate a relationship...and he hasn't pressured her to do it...but obviously, he's thought about it.

Poor Lois and Clark had things always going wrong, either between them, or in the sense of a villain/threat to be stopped - initially they had a lot of time when they had too much angst to be "hot" like this, but even later on, it seems like things always got in the way.

Well, usually it's part of the story why he is not wearing it at that moment. In the case of this episode he is trapped in the virtual world and the computer doesn't know that he is Superman. He also doesn't have his powers at that time. This is dealt with earlier in the episode. Also in episode 3x02 he doesn't wear it underneath as he has a bet with Lois that he would not use his powers.

Considering he didn't have his Superman powers in the VR world, she could have done anything to him and he'd have had to take it. Damn...that would make for a great fic. Anyone still know of where there's L&C fanfic still on the net, preferably NC17?
I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have much resistance to her, superpowers or no. And we do learn in this episode that she has, well, done this more than he has. Even though it didn't turn out well for her with other guys.
I thought it could have been interesting if the episode where she got superpowers had taken place after they were married. I can see him quite willing to let her behave as you suggest here. But I think her getting superpowers was supposed to be a way of giving her more understanding of him before they truly got together.
A lot of fanfics I've seen really delve into and prolong the agony and angst and misunderstanding. There's an N-fic site that requires registration and a password (probably so as not to have anyone underage). But you can see a listing of those stories and that is the only place I've ever seen fics like the missing scene from the beginning of Speeding VIxen. I guess I'm surprised more fans don't want to write something like that, or scenes their getaway in the "Superman and married woman scandal" episode.

And, of course, they begin to levitate off the bed as the scene is fading out (!) and we see them on the ceiling first thing in Brutal Youth.

The end of Soul Mates, which is the wedding night, fades out at an earlier stage...there's kissing and they begin to float, but not so much tearing off of clothes - and a lot of times when we were married, there would be kissing, and / or heading to the bedroom, or Clark would get in bed already not fully-dressed. I don't recall so much undressing being shown on-screen even during the newlywed episodes. And while season 4 definitely did make clear that both enjoyed their physical, marital relationship - their early married life was not all bliss. They still had to grapple with villains, things going on at work, and with Lois' family - that still interrupted. Some people think the actual "first time" was the night before he left for New Krypton but we don't see as much steaminess there either.

For people who were "meant to be together" they sure had a lot of problems along the way. Some were kind of self-created - Lois was very fearful of relationships because of her family history and some bad romantic experiences - what we call today trauma, a word they didn't use in this show. (And yet, in a funny way, she becomes very dependent on him, even while not comfortable with it.) Clark grew up with parents who loved each other but he felt "different" from everyone else. And he was never quite sure how to balance being Superman with the normal life he wanted. But they actually did have bad things happen to them that came "from outside." Lois continued to be afraid things would happen to get in the way - and she actually wasn't far wrong.
With all the weird things that happen to them, that was in some way the weirdest. Things like the clones, aliens, and computer villains are...far out...but it is a sci-fi / fantasy show, so those things work in context. Clark suddenly deciding to break up with Lois, at the end of Contact - after a couple of episodes of him trying to get her to marry/be serious with him, was, well a shift for the character and seems, well, cold, for him. And I think, right before he does that, she is telling him she is getting more comfortable with being in the relationship. And, he says the reason is because their being together puts her in danger...and then they pretty much continue to do everything together anyway.

Super Mann? Lois is having one of those "death can come any minute" epiphanies, and suddenly she and Clark are grabbing each other and falling. It definitely suggests more than a kiss happens - but they're kept off the screen until, yes, Jimmy interrupts. In fanfic, Jimmy seems to "live vicariously" - through such moments - he idolizes Clark (even without knowing The Secret), but thinks Lois is hot and is titillated to catch them in situations like that together. Not sure if there's much basis for that in the real show.
I guess that Clark does not have his powers in that virtual reality. As strong as he is, wouldn't he have to be VERY careful when fondling Lois like that to avoid hurting her?
In Superman II, he is ordered by the Kryptonians (I think) to relinquish his powers - which they have a device for - before getting intimate with Lois - and it is supposed to be permanent. They never actually say it's because he would otherwise hurt her - but fans always seem to kind of assume that's the real reason.
