Scarface is just louder at the end of the day. It was supposed to be this crime epic. I prefer the somber, quieter tone going on in Carlito. How the film bookends reminds me of classic noir in how Carlito narrates in this smooth vernacular. And because you don't get desensitized to violence because there way is less of it in Carlito's Way, it hits stronger after long tense buildups. I honestly put the poolhall sequence up against any sequence in Scarface for how it takes its time and comes together so strong. I like both films but Carlito's Way continues to get better on rewatches where Scarface just stays where it is as flashy style over substance 80s remake.
My all time favorite crime drama movie. More than the Godfather movies, more than Goodfellas or Casino, more than Donnie Brasco, Untouchables or Scarface, Heat or Collateral...all of which I love. This to me is the pinnacle. I must have seen it 10-20 times in theaters back in 1993(same year I graduated high school). I just adore it.
I love it when a first time reactor teaches me interesting facts like "Al Pacino is such a good actor he played three different characters in the 90s and they were different from each other". Insightful and informational.
Also thought If Carlito treated Benny Blanco from the Bronx with respect and just told him he's retired maybe they wouldn't have a feud and Benny wouldn't have killed him Also once he fell down those stairs and they took Benny in the alley, as much as Catlito wanted to go straight , he had to kill Benny at that point. Him not doing so sealed his fate . Also when Klienfeld asked Carlitos for help he could've just said no . But if he did all these things there be no movie 🤣
One of my favorite Pacino movie. When I first got my wife to watch it. She asked me if he dies. I told her no.....needless to stay she was really pissed off at the end 🤣 She still enjoyed though. Scent of a woman is another good one. Mean streets with De Niro is a classic if ya want to visit his much younger years
This is such an underrated Pacino film for some reason but honestly my favorite . Even more than Scarface Btw i love how u always refer to Benny from the Bronx by his whole title 🤣
it wasn't loyalty to a friend, it was his street code, they mention it in the movie. the reason u don't snitch is not because of friendship, it's for ur reputation in the streets. the reputation as a snitch is not only shameful but dangerous.
14:49 I love the way you make sure to say Benny's full name... every time you mention him... "Benny Blanco from the Bronx" like it wouldn't do justice, to just call him Benny... lol.
This director did 2 other mob movies. Scarface with Al Pacino & The Untouchables with Robert De niro, Kevin Costner, Andy Garcia & Sean Connery. Both fantastic movies
My favorite Pacino movie. It doesn’t follow the mob movie outline because it’s not a mob movie. Carlito was never in the mob. He couldn’t be, he was Puerto Rican. The mob plays a very small part in this movie.
Well done, Shelby - yet another thoughtful critique of a good movie. As the film did not dwell on the Mob (as you pointed out) it was refreshing to see that neither did you in your comments, as may have been easy to do with your background in the subject. Unlike some reactors on YT you actually add to the enjoyment, rather than interrupting the flow. Again, well done - and those sapphire eyes!
I love watching people who you'd never expect to love a movie like this idk but superb ❤️💯 also 15:46 "SsUmeR-hOusE" 😭🤣 laughed so hard you are the cutest.
Such a good movie, and even though I'm late to the party it was great to see you react to it. That whole last 15 mins is just amazing, and that massive intake of air at the end when Benny rocked up made me smile because I remember doing the same haha. I remember watching the movie and discovering that by the end I was half off the sofa without noticing, from all the intensity. Great stuff :)
This movie is almost a what if scenario for the outcome that could of happened had Tony Montana survived in Scarface and went to prison. Al Pacino never disappoints with whatever he's in
You can't be half in, and you don't want to be all in. Just as Michael says in Godfather III "just when I thought I was out - they pull me back in". Carlito tries to short cut his way to the 70 grand he needs, and pays the price for not realizing his methods, that he's relied upon for so long, don't work. You can't have the fruits of a rational life by irrational means.
Ft Wayne where I live is a very different world from the Carlitos Way universe.. If I wasn't from Chicago originally and spent much time there I'd never get it. However it does have a universal quality to it. And the theme of overcoming your past I can relate to. Just turned 30 the film
His own "honor" killed him, he could have accepted his old friends money even as a loan. He could hvae accepted the police offer after he knew Kleinfeld was setting him up and had used him.
A sort of “anti-mob” movie is Boondock Saints. It’s got Norman Reedus from walking dead in it. It’s also got Willem Dafoe in it. Check out the description. I think you’ll dig it
I will! I'm not planning on covering The Irishman for another couple of weeks (I have some other mob movies from Pacino and De Niro's younger days first) but it is on my schedule! I will cover it eventually though I promise!
Awesome its a legendary movie I remember even it came out everyone was talking about it It even got Joe Pesci out of retirement to do the film It will definitely sadly be the last time they will all be together in a movie I know alot of people complaining its too long and boring , I loved every min of it I'm still shocked that AL Pacino is 80 years old 😳
I'm not a big fan of gangster films, but I do like this one very much! I recommend DePalma's more traditional thrillers: Blow Out, Dressed to Kill, Obsession, Body Double, etc. Thanks for reacting to this one. Not a lot of people have.
A great crime film I call "Scarface Lite" lol. But in many ways just as good as Scarface, and the long, great chase sequence towards the end is perfection defined, and more exciting than any fake CGI chase sequence in any stupid Fast And Furious movie.
You should check out sean Penn In this movie Mystic River. It's more of a mystery & drama but has minor mob elements in it. Fantastic movie. Sean Penn won his first oscar for it & Tim Robbins won also. Directed by Clint Eastwood
Brian DePalma's best movie (in my opinion) is actually a horror movie: "Carrie"! Maybe do that in October, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that one! His movies can be hit and miss, he's not as original as Scorsese and some of the others of his generation, but he can certainly deliver a solid movie from time to time (Carlito being one of them). / Hey, if you're doing mob movies again, may I request a few that have some female energy? "Bonnie And Clyde" with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, a super classic among classics and a huge influence on all of these mob movies, including (and especially) "The Godfather", even though it's about midwestern bankrobbers. It's a true crime, although the movie is very different from the real Bonnie & Clyde. Might be a good research project!/The mob comedy "Prizzi's Honor" with Jack Nicholson, Kathleen Turner and Angelica Huston. And "The Freshman" with Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick, I'm sure I've brought that up. Those are two genuinely funny (and good) flicks that will give you a change of pace in this genre.
Donnie Brasco is still the best in this genre, in my opinion. Unlike the others you've reviewed (with Carlito being a possible exception) it contains characters I can actually understand and relate to, characters that aren't thoroughly ugly. And it also contains one of Al Pacino's best performances. Assuming you are about done then with mob movies since you've now seen every one worth watching, there are three other Pacino movies that you should really check out: "Serpico" (where Pacino plays a famous whistleblowing cop), "And Justice for All" (which features Pacino taking on the corrupt modern American legal system) and "The Scent of a Woman" (where Pacino portrays a self hating blind colonel in complete freefall). And the best of the three, the one that best showcases Pacino's talents IMHO is the last one.
Great reaction, I would like to suggest you my Top 10 movie mix: Newer ones: 1. The Martian (2015) 2. Split (2016) 3. Iron Man (2008) 4. Ice Age (2002) 5. Gladiator (2000) Older ones: 1. Terminator (1984) 2. Airplane (1980) 3. Dirty Harry (1971) 4. Forrest Gump (1994) 5. Heat (1995) Last but not least some trash movies :D 1. Birdemic (2010) 2. Sharktopus vs Whalewolf (2015) 3. Rubber (2010) 4. The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon (2008) 5. Llamageddon (2018) Hope there´s one in this list you find interesting 😅
kind of dishonest to say you've got a bad feeling about a character when you left out the first scene wherein that character murders the main character.
I mentioned casulties of war in my comment as in my top 5 war movies. I mention it again cause Brian De Palma directed it & Sean Penn is in it. If you choose not to react to it I recommend you still watch it
You should do the movie,Once Upon a Time in America with Robert deniro, you will definitely enjoy that one Also James Woods costars in the movie as well
I'm sure you're referring to 2 or 3 out 60+ films. The remainder have been adapted, written for screen and even plagiarized directly from Hong Kong films (The Departed). Not based on real life. Do some research before you comment dude.
Never liked the Opening credits I feel like it ruins the end of the movie Biggest mistake Carlito made was going back to the same environment , he should of went somewhere completely new and he would of had more success in staying clean I literally have the dialogue memorized 😆
I totally agree! If he would've moved locations and found a new group of people to be around, he probably wouldn't have met the fate that he did.... 😞 Thanks for suggesting this movie to me!
Its not a mob movie but the movie The Devils Advocate with AL Pacino is epic So is the movie Stigmata with Oscar winner Patricia Arquette Now I'm getting off track lol
I wish more reactors reacted to this movie it's amazing, it tends to get overshadowed by Scarface it being the more mainstream pop cultural known
Yes I agree 👍💯
Scarface is just louder at the end of the day. It was supposed to be this crime epic. I prefer the somber, quieter tone going on in Carlito. How the film bookends reminds me of classic noir in how Carlito narrates in this smooth vernacular.

It's unfortunate it had to be this dumb broad to react to such a legendary flick.
Underrated movie. Always liked it. When I first saw it back in the day, it took me a while to recognize Penn as Kleinfeld.
I always wondered why this movie isn't more well known. It's extremely underrated.
Everyone in this movie should have won an award's for their performances
My all time favorite crime drama movie. More than the Godfather movies, more than Goodfellas or Casino, more than Donnie Brasco, Untouchables or Scarface, Heat or Collateral...all of which I love. This to me is the pinnacle. I must have seen it 10-20 times in theaters back in 1993(same year I graduated high school). I just adore it.
Love this movie. Might be the most detailed and immersive portrayal of late 1970's / early 1980's metropolitan culture and pre-rennaisance NYC.
I love it when a first time reactor teaches me interesting facts like "Al Pacino is such a good actor he played three different characters in the 90s and they were different from each other". Insightful and informational.

Hell yeah, the queen of mafia is back.
This is such an underrated Pacino film for some reason but honestly my favorite . Even more than Scarface
Btw i love how u always refer to Benny from the Bronx by his whole title 🤣
It felt wrong only calling him Benny lolz
@@shelbynnave Don't Forget The React to Mission Impossible 1996

exactly!

- *GONE GIRL (2014)*
- *PRISONERS (2013)*
- *TRUE ROMANCE (1993)*
🔥🔥🔥
Only prisoners ...but no way others liké those mafia movies ...
Just rewatched this and was astonished by the concept of Carlito's killer announcing his identity out loud, then leaving a witness on the scene??
Well done, Shelby - yet another thoughtful critique of a good movie. "Hey, remember me? Benny Blanco from the Bronx?"
Such a classic line
That actor was great in everything he was in.
"Donnie Brasco" is terrific -- Johnny Depp amazing, Pacino at his best. See also "Black Mass" -- Johnny Depp as "Whitey" Bulger.
One of my FAVE films. Marty Bregman made this, along with Scarface. Nice one Shelby.
This is a Classic movie! Check out
- “Scent of A Woman” w A Pacino
This is a very underrated movie. Great reaction.
If only Carlito had just listened to Gail, or took the fed's deal...his "code" got him killed.
My fav movie of all time

My fav movie of all time literally
This is my fav Al Pacino movie
2nd fav is The Devils Advocate followed by The .Irishman
You should watch the movie Mobsters staring Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, Richard Grieco and Costas Mandylor...
The streets has its own rules and it takes you a minute to peep game and its always the person you never suspect
Brain De Palma directed it , 2nd time with Pacino with Scarface
I recommend everyone to watch this movie
I would love to watch a movie with Shelby...she's hilarious...😂 X
I love your reaction to Carlito's Way @Shelby Nave!
Poor Aragorn in the wheelchair.
