  • @sarah.weaver
    @sarah.weaver 2 года назад +146

    This looks amazing! What an insanely creative and fantastical project!
    My only concern, as others have mentioned, would be the heat dispersement for the Xbox. I see u left the vents open, but that doesn't really account for the extra insulation provided by both the wood, and especially the foam. I would love for you guys to do an experiment, maybe with a heat gun, and see it running for say an hour without this, see it's heat output,. Then another hour with the same thing running(maybe use the same game or such, because some games will cause more heat output) and then test the heat output again.
    Even if it doesn't necessarily overheat, running an Xbox(or any gaming console or computer even) at a slightly elevated temperature long term can definitely effect the life expectancy of your device dramatically.

    • @lyndonjohnson5063
      @lyndonjohnson5063 2 года назад +8

      I concur. Heat is going to be a problem. It looks easy enough to remove the Xbox. Perhaps this should be a display cabinet and not used while playing. It is a fantastic work of art.

    • @porcu12345
      @porcu12345 2 года назад +5

      Indeed. The fan is designed to keep the xbox within optimal temp ranges under normal conditions. Even with the fan uncovered, heat is still going to be generated from every side of the console, including the bottom, and it won't be able to dissipate from those sides. The fans going to be overworked. Wouldn't be surprised if it's running several degrees hotter for sure.

    • @Vandralys
      @Vandralys 2 года назад +11

      The components used aren't very thermally conductive so shouldn't act as a heat block and retain heat in that sense, they'd only be losing out on the passive cooling between the case of the xbox and the atmosphere. This can likely be compensated for, the xbox only has a single extraction fan at the top and relies on pull through ventilation, they need, NEED to raise the shell off the desk and allow for at a minimum the normal xbox intake (which is at the bottom) to function. They could however compensate for the lack of passive cooling by installing a forced intake fan to run in addition to the extraction, this would eliminate the need to raise the structure and leave an air gap. I would install a block of XPS foam a couple of inches thick at the bottom and to blend into the build, with sewer grates to disguise the intake air ports on all 4 sides of the base and a normal PC fan blowing directly up into the xbox. You'd ideally want the equivalent of the surface area of the fan divided between the intake ports on each side (the rear could accommodate a larger port)

    I'd be really interested to know how being surrounded in that much foam and wood and... other stuff affects the thermals. It seems to me like it might be prone to overheating. You might want to change out the fan at the top for one that doesn't rattle and actually use it for cooling.

      For everybody complaining about the "heat dispersion" issue, did you NOT take a look at the original X-Box?!? They did NOT cover up ANY of the original ventilation and the X-Box uses a tower dispersion design where air is pulled from the bottom and shed through the top... a top that has nothing more than expended wire netting... There will likely be NO difference at all in regards to the heat dispersion. We can see where she took that into account from the beginning. The execution was flawless and excellently disguises that there is a console hiding under there.

BIG nono. my ps3 slim overheated just yesterday from being in a large ventilated cabinet instead of on the floor. this she built is NOT safe and it is NOT a practical design at all. the case of the system shouldve been removed. the components inside need been put in sane places to accommodate any change. also she doesnt check the materials to see if they are a fire hazard and being from such cheap toys they might be. that could result in someones death and is being left as a feasible way to mod a system it blankly isnt. and there are really good systems cases out there people could and should pay good money for being ignored.

    I believe that you are entitled to claim the crown of Undisputed Queen of Complexity. It is obvious that you enjoy doing what you are doing otherwise you would not take as much pride in your work as you so patently do. Every time I watch a video of a new project I am assured that, as the build progresses, the layers will continue to grow exponentially until the two day project expands to 4 weeks! I am never disappointed. Always amazed. Beguiled by your skill. And blown away by the final product!

      I don't believe we changed much about how it's cooled, the airflow of the fan intake/exit is more or less unaffected by our mod once we get some rubber feet for it to stand on, but might be the extra layer of stuff outside the metal box increases the average temp... Will be fun to see! Great thermals was never the point of this build though, if you're optimizing for cooling, dont put foam around your computer!

      @Girl On A Quest that plastic shell also dissipates heat. Have you ever felt the side of a console when it's running? It's hot, because it's dissipating heat. With a build like this it's more heavily insulated. It's equatable to wearing a spring jacket on a hot day vs a winter jacket. A build like this would require a more robust ventilation cooling system, or at least some extra heat sinks for it to maintain the efficiency of a non-modded shell.

    Found your channel from watching your LTT collab. That was a fantastic video, one of their best ever collabs. I'm sticking around to watch your videos. So subbed 😀 Love your personality, your designs & the music and sounds included. Dogs are also a massive plus 😉

    Amazing stuff. 😁 Reminds me of the olden days before the 3D printers, resin molding, and all the other great things we have today when they made the original Star Wars. They looted countless model kits from hobby shops all over to build every miniature, ship, all the way to the Death Star. Random plastic bits.

    This is definitely one of my new favorite videos on your channel! You said it’s one of the most fun projects you’ve done so far, and it came through- this was such a fun video to watch! The creativity behind using old toys and recycling is absolutely genius. Props for the music choice too- all the songs totally fit the vibe! I was jamming along the whole time 😊

    Music really slapped on this one!
    Imagine the design meeting: "Hey what about if instead of continuing our streak of black rectangles, we make something that that could double as Shadowrun terrain?"

    2:12 Me: oh, this looks so much like an Howl's moving castle build I watched a few years ago now, who did tha.... Martina: 3:05 You win on the footnotes for the nerdy. StudsonStudio creations out of trash are the best, and you show the process perfectly. I'm sure he'd be ... *looks at pinned by Nerdforge note* yes, proud and surprised. Happy nerdy people, shiny happy, nerdy people, for the win.

    Omg, it looks like something straight out of Piltover or the Lanes from Arcane, it's so freaking cool. You did an amazing job.

    Fun fact was designed like that on purpose for cooling purposes and for how it was built. It resembles a mini fridge but it’s supposed to kinda remind you of a PC tower but your design is on the wow factor.

      I also agree! And keep in mind that it was designed for mass production, cheaper and easier :)

      Plus a black box can really fit into any interior design without sticking out. Compared to the PS5 which just looks out of place in most places
