I remember the first time playing with rain and I did the roundhouse kick and thought the game broke.. then I realized rain can actually kick you smooth across the screen with no problems

Sound Effects and Music, it's crazy how every map has its own music, the select fighter menu has its own music and the start menu as well, I think the horror vibe they went with really made this game extra great because no other games were doing this, this is back when horror games were incredibly rare.

omg, the nostalgia. Game and character. Rain's brutality was the first I've ever learned. You couldn't google back then for combos; everything had to be learned and tested. XXX BCZ BCZ BCZ BXXA or something very very close to that. I had every move written in a Planner. My mom found it and couldn't believe that was my handwriting (it was so beautiful and cared for unlike my school notes).

The use of real martial artist and stop motion, combined with creative moves, animalities, fatalities, babality and brutalities added a uniqueness that is unmatched,
MK had to compete with Street Fighter and a smaller bugdet and made a timeless game.
Nostalgia aside, this game is flawless and I'd pick this game over any other fighting game

En mi barrio no valia elejir a rain ni a sombras porque en este mortal todavia no habian corregido el error de trabar con el rayo si quiere tira el rayo todo el dia y el personaje rival rebota todo el dia fijense en el minuto 4:40 segundo round contra jack lo hace 4 veces si queria lo hacia hasta que muera este error se corrigio en el mortal kombat trylogy que es el mismo juego pero con mas personajes y errores corregidos. I know he’s a play on Prince ‘s purple rain, but Rain was an all time favorite mk3 character. He’s moves were that of raider (similar) but the attitude of his fellow ninjas (more so noob saibot/scorpion/Ermac) than others. All time favorite character.

Maybe it's just me, but I do think the SNES version of UMK trilogy is harder than this. The AI on SNES knows exactly what you're about to do... Good game by the way.

Yup the SNES version is waaay harder than the Genesis version. The A.I are programmed to react instantly the moment you pushed the button on the SNES version.

+MDCKilla Rain was meant to be a joke character. He was never meant to even appear in any of the UMK3 console ports. Rain was originally a red herring inserted by the game developers; a character shown in the game's attract mode who did not actually exist wthin the game itself. Many MK fans tried to find this character and eventually relaized that this was a joke character (named after a Prince song "Purple Rain"). The joke expanded further when it is revealed that Rain is a prince himself. After all that, they decided to include Rain in the console ports of the game. So basicly he is one of the characters that appear briefly in the games.

This guy is really really good. I think this character is OverPowered, that's why they didn't bring Rain and Noob Saibot to the HD kollection. However these videos are the BEST I've seen. You don't do a boring combo over n over n over again!

The Kollection is an actual arcade port so Rain and Noob were never playable in the arcade
