WG does silly things, this tank has realistic armor layout, but the T-54 has 12mm more than early T-54s (they had 120mm, not 132mm), they later got an armor reduction (down to 100mm, in 1949) so the upgraded turret (1954) is not supposed to be mounted on the 120mm hull.
Because it is East German, and back in the day there was no Pan European tree, so it was made Blitz nation. Just like the first Swedish tanks which even have their tech trees now, but are still in Blitz nation last I checked.

I really like the T-55A personally. Just got it. I'm not a good player, but I have average damage of 1870. It's still rising. But I really like the mobility, DPM and turret armor. You have just enough gun depression to work some rigdelines. They either have to shoot your hatch, or load premium (unless you're up against TD or tier x). But the game screws me sometimes. I also miss some stupid shells, like I have track shots While I shoot at the turret. I have that with literally every tank except the maus for some reason.

It’s in the Chinese tree because even though it’s Russian and Chinese hybrid Russia have never used the type 59.
