I get the point about runners many times removed from the parent, but do any soilborne diseases build up over the years, which no plant can fight off? In Australia i'm about to plant out 20 new plants and might try the plastic with drip hose under. Thanks guys!

I wonder if biodegradable mulch made out of corn starch might be a good idea. It degrades during the winter and can be plowed under.
