Very Nice Video and Very Good Job on the Photos Red River Valley Fighter Pilots. My GrandFather was Wild Weasel Number 814 Stationed at George Air Force Base California.
Ordie, great job and great songs. I was on a carrier long before Nam. Remember those screaming take-offs by the F8 Crusader. It rattled the bones of anyone near that beast as it was launched. And those ADs (prop) planes were feared as those props could make mince meat out of you. I avoided them by crawling under or around them. I have several RRV songs including Sons of the Pioneers (the best version imho), Gene Autry, Marty Robbins, and a few others but had never heard this one. Nice!
Liked the video, and comin' from an Okie background sure recognized the song. Did a lot of BDA's for the fast movers in my little OH-58 "Kiowa", honored to walk the halls with these guys as a "River Rat" who never went that far North and danced with tree limbs and tracers.
Enjoyed the presentation. Very nice job. The Caribou is a C-7. The C-123 was used by the 315th Air Commando Wing and provided the majority of in country airlift in the early days of the war. Another aircraft not included was the C-124. That aircraft was also important in the early days of the war until the C-141 became fully operational.
Great video, but did notice no mention of Air America and all the fantastic old aircraft they had. I was the Air Force Liaison Officer with them in 1971 and 1972 they had at least one if it was old and obsolete andt they could land anything on a postage stamp.
Believe it or not that is Jimmie Rodgers doing Red River Valley total justice! The second song is Red River Valley Blues and performed by Dick Perry. Glad you liked it!
My dad flew with the river rats and he’s actually speaking about his ejection story to the rover rat meeting next week handle east flyer or Pete kulzer
Anybody know the Air Force parody version of this song during the war???? I heard it many years ago...but never since.....im also trying to find the song 100 missions....it was sung to the tune of "when johnny comes marching home".....UUUGGGGHHh....HELP!...lol
DENNIS C HERMERDING After a short battle with several health issues related to his exposure to the deadly Agent Orange during three combat tours of Air Force duty in Vietnam serving his country. Dennis took his final flight on November 17th 2018 . Not only was Dennis a brave and highly decorated Vietnam hero, he was a hero walking down his path to death with his family at his side. And now may he rest in peace in the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ. Thank all of you who loved him well and held him dear. In lieu of flowers. Did anyone serve/fly with Lt. Col. Bob Rayford, USAF?
Lots of airships but dad's image rests only in spirit
the Caribou was the C-7, the C-123 was the Provider (a small, 2 engine C-130)
Love this!!
Red River Valley in North Vietnam. Thud ridge then pure guts to the targets over down town.
Charge your glass,
Raise it high
