Saw this movie with my Great Uncle and his wife in the 1980s (I was a little kid, they were in their 70s/80s) they had an absolute fit about this! They said it was just like college in the 20s.
The "Extras" used in the Party scene were actually New York socialites dressed up for the 1920s. All the jewelry worn by Mia Farrow and Lois Chiles was all authentic, period pieces, made by the top Jewelry vendors at that time. The band, the caterers, the flowers All were the Genuine article and produced a very realistic scene; a glimpse into the rarefied world of Wealthy American Society of the 20's. No green screen trickery in the 1974 version!
In this movie, they looked more like people did in the late 1920s, not like they did in 1922 (which is when this movie takes place). The 2013 version did an even worse portrayal of the way people looked back then.
The point of the 2013 is to show us what the parties were like for us, if that makes sense. a 1920 party shown as it was would be very boring compared so it shows us and the younger generation at what scale these parties were
my friend constantine poladememetriouwas in this scene in the fountain he and billy rose were the best dancers in newport then. god rest there souls i love you Constantine!!!😅
The craziest thing about this movie made in 1974 all the old actors in it were pretty much reliving their youth
@super
Very crazy. If any of them were alive during the flapper era they would have been babies.
there were no old people in this scene and 50 years later i dont know of amy that are still alive. live..live..live🎉

I love the 1974 version ! A great , albeit sad movie.
Wonderful cast and time-period recreation .
Totally agree, this movie is a piece of art.

The actors here must have had fun filming the dance scene.
This movie feeled more and showed more what the 1920s were like than the remake in 2013
Cause people who lived through the 20s worked on the 1974 one.

I like Dicaprio but the 2013 version sucked ass
The 2013 movie version had synthesizer based music, which I don't know of existed in the 1920's.
My favorite part of this scene: the twins dancing together.
I find this partiers more impressive. The Charleston and partnership is better than just party goers pretending they're rich for the night.
dance goals
i remember seeing this in high school for an english class. i remember that foot dance work being more intense doe
