STELLA GLOW is awesome!! I am currently playing now and I believe I am near the end. This game has great personality and is so much fun to play. A great strategy game! Great graphics too! Definitely a hidden gem that also has great background music.

Awesome video, definitely some stuff I've got to check out. So glad to see Alliance Alive at the top, it's definitely my favorite hidden gem too. I had trouble describing exactly what draws me to the game so much, but you said it in one word; "charm."
I wish Nintendo would Re release the Luminous Arc games on the Switch. I've only played the 1st 2 emulated because I couldn't find a physical version that had been translated.
#8 Stella Glow = I really enjoyed this one. Characters are charming and I even liked the generally lighthearted story as a change to what I was seeing a lot of at the time. But a big plot twist about halfway through felt really forced and unnecessary to me. It's something I'm honestly sick and tired of in this genre, and it seemed to randomly come out of nowhere just for the sake of having such an overdone plot element. #3 7th Dragon 3: Code VFD = A weird name for a weird game. The story is mostly a campy, fun ride that also manages to get pretty dark sometimes. It's self-aware and revels in otaku culture (Miku performed the opening to at least one of the previous games). Speaking of music, this soundtrack is pretty amazing with some vocal tracks at just the right time. The classes are quite diverse and I highly recommend trying out the Duelist class. One of my favorite JRPGs of all time.

You've just earned my like from Stella Glow. Stella Glow is a masterpiece and the only reason I found it was when I was searching up some 3ds games to play cause I had nothing to do on my thanksgiving break. Boy I'm glad I did. I think one of Stella Glow's best points r character development and story While the characters maybe generic at first they do developed and the bonding system helps. The story maybe generic, but it gave the feeling of adventure and a well paced one too which I think what most rpg r lacking now a days. They're not giving that feeling of adventure or to feel the stories
I loved Stella Glow’s story. There’s a plot twist later on that raises the stakes really high - shit gets real. My favourite part of the game in general though is actually all the character specific skills and weapons. You can really build a team of distinct characters in that game and they all play so differently. Also, the best way to describe the combat in lords of magna is WAIFU BOWLING, hahaha.
Well, both Stella and Magna are harem games, but they do have some really interesting and addictive characteristics that make up for whatever other flaws they may have. "Flaws" being flaws in my opinion, of course.
Yea for sure, it's not for everybody! Naturally I respect your opinion as well. I definitely had a lot of problems with Magna but it's still a cool, unique game as well.
It is a harem. While it's certainly tame in terms of sexual content compared to others, the protagonist is surrounded by several girls who present themselves as possible """tuning""" partners. If this were adapted into an anime (Conception got an adaptation, so anything's possible) it would definitely get the harem tag. Of course, there is one who is the most likely love interest, and I was pleasantly surprised how their relationship was addressed.
Lol no it is unquestionably not a harem. And you very clearly have no idea what a harem is yourself. The girls do not present themselves as tuning partners they have no choice. And of those "several" girls (which is also untrue) only two of them actually like the MC through the course of the game...Conception is a harem because you bond with the girls and only the girls and then go on dates with them. You don't do any dating in Stella Glow and unlike Conception there is no harem ending. And you can choose one of the guy's endings instead of a girl's. No one in their right mind would give that a harem tag. Also harems don't have to be sexual in nature, that's ecchi.
Thanks for Mercenary Saga suggest! I've discovered these titles few days ago (I believed they were published just for the Switch console) and, as a stbrpg players for years I found 2 titles worth to be compared to Ff and Tactics Ogre and all the other stbrpg titles!
Culdcept Revolt is like Monopoly the Board Game which you buy territory, make laps and gain points to win blended with the strategy of Magic the gathering Trading Card Game, tons of awesome cards to build decks with so you can defend your territories or hinder your opponents progress. Its all very, very deep and rewarding, games will last long anywhere from 1 hr to even 4 hrs. Culdcept is underrated even deserving a solid score of 8/10 for any gamer but if you like trading card games, board games and strategy it’s an 11/10 as there’s no game like it. Theirs a game for the DS called "Super Robot Taisen OG Endless Frontier" that is my favorite on the system. I know its not a 3ds game but if you like games like Valkyrie Profile, Project x Zone or Cosmic Star Heroine then you should check it out. It's the best DS Rpgs I've ever played!
I remember getting excited for The Legend of Legacy because it was made by people who worked on the SaGa franchise. I saw the mixed reviews and I said to myself "Yep it's a SaGa game". Crimson Shroud's senario was by Yasumi Matsuno of Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics and Vagrant Story. Personally I think 7th Dragon III Code VFD is the best in the series. For some reason 7th Dragon 2020 has Hatsune Miku in it . :-|
Thanks for another great video, this is one I was looking forward to since I recently got a 3DS and have been picking up games to play. I never even heard of that Crimson Shroud game nor have I seen it, looks different but might be extremely hard to find haha. The other one I was surprised about was the Culdcept Saga game I had play the first one made awhile back and it was a awful game with no real purpose was kind of just a really complicated yet boring party game to play with friends. So when I saw the name I didn't even look at it but now that I see it and that they tried to create a story it might be some fun! There is two other games I am interested in that I don't know if you can really call them hidden gems but I think they are just since they came out so late in the 3DS life cycle is Ever Oasis and Monster Hunter Stories. If you ever get around to playing them would like to hear your opinion on them since they look semi interesting.
Thanks you! yeah I might just check out the demo, it looked really different and interesting I have always been interested in the monster hunter series but it never really had a story so I never got into them. But this one looked bright colorful with a actual story so I was really interested haha. Thats a shame if Ever Oasis gets boring does just have you grinding doing the same thing? Or does just not really have much of a story to pull you through to the end?
The Legend of Legacy was actually on my radar for a while. However, I just got invested like 2 hours and never touch the game again. Which sucks because I liked the concept of playing with different characters with "unique" stories. I know there's Octopath Traveller, but still my point stands. It would been a fun RPG if it was improved with the combat system and story.
Man, Legend of Legacy is so brutally difficult sometimes. Took me 51 hours to finish - the game should have been 25 hours long and not had grinding. If you like insane difficulty and grinding you’ll like it.
Wow Lord of Magna made it to 2. I thought it could be mentioned but didn't think it'd make it that far up. While i enjoyed it for the most part i can see tons of reasons to complain about it too lol. Out of curiosity, if you finished the game which girl was your final heroine? For me Adelheid (light blue/teal hair). Was also having fun with Legend of Legacy but didn't really get far in it cause a bunch of other games got in the way, seems to always happen to me...right now i temporarily dropped Octopath Traveler for DQ11...and i started that game day 1 back in July lol (MH World and Shining Resonance got in the way quite a few times). Now i gotta finish up DQ11 before next Tuesday because Valkyria Chronicles 4 comes out next week and i really want to play it (at the moment DQ11 and VC4 will be the most likely to win goty 2018 for me). After VC4 though i don't really have any other games i absolutely want for a few months (only games would either be Smash Ultimate in Dec...and i'm not that sure about it still and Tales of Vesperia in Jan (probably Switch version)) so after i beat it i'll probably move to older games i haven't finished yet.
FuRyu Games were pretty much the king of hidden gem games on the 3DS, especially with games like Alliance Alive. it must really hurt that some of the RPGs you want to play are only in Japan.
If you go deep enough into the internet you can find several serviceable fan translations. Its just they're a pain in the ass to find and 70% of them carry viruses
I wish to be more games like Wizardry on 3DS. I know there is Etrian Odyssey but it has manga style graphics. I want western style!!! Don't reply to me with Dark Spire as I know this title very well.
I guess it’s a little more popular now, though most people I know still don’t know what it is. When I first saw it at GameStop I was like wtf is this, and picked it up a friends recommendation. Definitely one of my better decisions.
Not a lot of people play Etrian Odyssey, but the majority of people who actively play JRPG's have heard of the series. Its kinda the Dark Souls of turn based JRPG's.
I hate when we don't get all of a series localized....we only got the 5th Starfy game, we never got the first 6 Fire Emblem games or the 12th entry ( which was a remake of the 3rd game, and a continuation of Marth's story...and it introduced the casual mode Awakening often gets credit for ), Final Fantasy was a mess for a while because of localizations ( skipped 2 & 3, renamed 4 as 2, skipped 5, renamed 6 as 3, then released 7 without renaming it and...yeah....dumbest part is there are STILL people who refuse to use the real numbers and it gets confusing when they talk about 2 or 3 but really mean 4 or 6 just because SNES localization ), no 3rd Chibi-Robo, and then there's the elephant in the room, Mother 3....not to mention some Tales games including Destiny 2 which we never got due in part to Namco stupidly localizing Eternia as "Destiny II".... also, while it's on Switch ( and is the version I own ), I'd like to say Sushi Striker: Way of Sushido is a decent hidden gem ( most people tend to forget there's a 3DS version even if they know the game since it's on Switch ). A puzzle game JRPG with a humorous story and a bit of Pokemon style creature collecting to add strategic depth to how you approach battles. And yes, it falls into that "what defines an RPG" area, but there's a lot of story to it and you level up both the protagonist Musashi ( be it male or female ) and your Sushi Sprites through gaining EXP from battles so I say it qualifies.
Perfect timing, just bought a 2dsXL and am picking up and playing all the RPGs on it. So mad I missed out on the lifespan of this system, so much time wasted on destiny. Ugh
Though I'm not holding my breath, the 3ds is a better hand held then the switch and hoping Nintendo ment it when they said they where not moving away from the 3ds. However from what i see in the store, it seems like thats a lie.
Erick buenos videos, pero de casualidad en el futuro podrías dar una opción de subtitulados en español para tu público de Latinoamérica? Siempre me pierdo en una o 2 cosas que dices. Sigue así ~ Saludos.
i highly recommend 7th dragon - best battle system ever -8 classes est. 20 skills influent each other, ex skills(super powerfull) - you can multiple buff u skils between character and on ourself and 1 shot supehard boss :D
NOT a hidden gem anymore, thankfully. It's my favourite 3ds RPG, actually ;) But nope, it's not as popular as others, sure, but it's not hidden at all.
I thought about Soul Hackers, it was originally number 10 on this list, along with Ever Oasis. But those two are, I think, kind of popular, so I thought I'd give other games a chance.
Yeah alliance alive did indeed improve a lot i appriciate it. Speaking of 7th dragon, hace you play 2020 title? i kinda prefer the story and art style of the 2020 and 2020-2. Character using chibi model making dragon more intense and since thie prequel dont have "chosen one" gimmic. Thanks to it, the world bulding become even more darker to the point most boss required help of high casualty military operation. For example how dark 2020 is, most JRPG will only say "he is dead" when you examine dead body sprite but 7th dragon will describe the gruesome dead body by detailed naration as "his armor and flesh are fused due to extreme heat". It really contrast the use of chibi model that often asociated to cuteness. If you have time i suggest play the fanslation of 2020. Although i havent heard of 2020-2 being traslated so all i can is wish you luck someone translated it already.
Trust me, the 3DS JRPG library is really good, but it's more like quality over quantity. There aren't even 50 RPGs for the system. If you're a veteran, like me, you will barely find something new on the system.
Brave Dungeon, 2 SMT Devil Survivor remakes, SMT Strange Journey Remake, SMT IV, SMT IV A, SMT Devil Summoner Soul Hackers, Persona Q, 5 Etrian Games, 8 Pokemon games, 3 Mystery Dungeon games, Conception 2, 3 Monster Hunter games, Monster Hunter Stories, Yokai Watch and Yokai Watch 2, Radiant Historia Remake, Bravely Default and Bravely Second, Fire Emblem, 2 Dragon Quest games, Tales of the Abyss, 3 Mario and Luigi RPG's, Project X Zone and Project X Zone 2, Unchained Blades, Heroes of Ruin, Code Name S.T.E.A.M,. Thats pretty much it.....I've played all of these. Damn......
Culdcept Revolt sure is underrated. It gets infuriating at times when the enemy NPCs start winning with no way for you to get back at them, but at the same time, it's a lot of fun, especially because this level of challenge encourages you to experiment with your deck. Not only that but unlike other card games (though this is a hybrid), deck building is easy to understand to the point where you don't have to be 110% dedicated to the game to master different strategies. Very easy to get into. Moderately difficult to master but not daunting. And it's a real shame that 7th Dragon only made it to the West with this 3DS title. The first has the cutest art style I've seen in a JRPG (especially the sprites used during exploration) and 2020 and 2020-II have great soundtracks. I've been meaning to get the one for the 3DS and I guess now is the time since I got some money incoming.
Running out of video ideas? I know you already did one on fan translations. But, it might be good to get updates on ongoing ones, that are nearing release. Kind of like an info dump.
Oh, I was just thinking about what systems you haven't covered, and I couldn't think of many. Was just curious what you were going to do when you'd covered them all.
Are 3DS and PS Vita region free? Which one of these games came to Europe? Would be cool, if you can say that, because I am sure that you have lots of European viewers like me from Germany. I have no more problem with English only JRPG, since I have played Trails in the Sky and Cold Steel. So region free games with English only will be ok, no matter if it is handheld, console or PC.
3DS is region locked. I had to buy a Japanese 3DS to play Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2. On the Upside I'm gonna be playing Persona Q2 right after it comes out thanks to Play Asia
I liked Stella Glow. Then I lost a battle where my last save was before a bunch of talk and a long unskippable cutscene. I stopped playing after that. I would've been happy to go back in and keep playing the game, but I'd lost faith that the developers had any respect for my time.
#10- It looks a bit basic. There is no place in my collection for it since the action RPG The World Ends with you is already in my collection. #9- All of the criticisms about this game are pluses in my book. With all of the tactic RPGs out there and a very limited budget. There is no reason for me to pick up these games.#4 7 Dragon 3- The first few seconds of video of this game yelled you should get this game.#3 Lord of Magna- Just no. #2 Alliance Alive-

Sick ass Ergo Proxy poster dude!
GREAT game that one you're speaking of! I included it on my Hidden Gems video for the NDS! Check it out!
Baltimore Retro Gaming It is great! And the project x zone on 3ds is kinda its sequel since the stories are related.
Alliance Alive is even better. They hired the writer of Suikoden 1-3. So basically the guys behind SaGa with the writing of Suikoden... really a gem.
Playable Kaito and Meiko when? :3
Erick Landon is God for jrpg lovers,
I was just asking you about Alliance Alive. I'll have to get it for sure now.
Yes. Please do so. It's great.
Monster hunter stories is great! There’s actually like a 5 hour demo on the eshop - you should try it out and see if you like it!
Monster Hunter Stories is soooo good, definite must play. I also liked Ever Oasis but it got a little boring for me.
Thanks you! yeah I might just check out the demo, it looked really different and interesting I have always been interested in the monster hunter series but it never really had a story so I never got into them. But this one looked bright colorful with a actual story so I was really interested haha.
Thats a shame if Ever Oasis gets boring does just have you grinding doing the same thing? Or does just not really have much of a story to pull you through to the end?
I never got into the main series either because of the fact there is no story. I fell in love with MHS though right away due to the amazing story.
haha awesome going to pick it up soon then, so many games to play so little time sigh.
RIP 3ds eshop. Looking for some things to download before I can't anymore
Its a nice list though I was hoping for some games I didn't own to look into getting.
Ohhhhh the legend of mana music intro...
Culdcept revolt is my favorite 😍
I haven't yet opened it thinking of doing so right now
Wow Lord of Magna made it to 2.
After VC4 though i don't really have any other games i absolutely want for a few months (only games would either be Smash Ultimate in Dec...and i'm not that sure about it still and Tales of Vesperia in Jan (probably Switch version)) so after i beat it i'll probably move to older games i haven't finished yet.
i love your vids bud :)
Thanks!
FuRyu Games were pretty much the king of hidden gem games on the 3DS, especially with games like Alliance Alive. it must really hurt that some of the RPGs you want to play are only in Japan.
Indeed.
If you go deep enough into the internet you can find several serviceable fan translations. Its just they're a pain in the ass to find and 70% of them carry viruses
You had me at Loli Harem, getting that game
I wish to be more games like Wizardry on 3DS.
I know there is Etrian Odyssey but it has manga style graphics. I want western style!!!
Don't reply to me with Dark Spire as I know this title very well.
Good list. What about Etrian Odyssey? If you haven't played them, they are some really deep and great JRPG's on the 3DS.
Etrian is awsome but I dont think its very hidden
Haha, I was waiting for someone to mention Etrian Odyssey but yes, I have to fully agree with Ghalion; they're pretty well known nowadays.
It's weird you say that. I have also thought of it as the Dark Souls of turn based JRPG's. Especially Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold on Expert difficulty.
I played all those 3ds games except for Mercenary 2, yet
Cool
Most of these are far from hidden and some are far from gems.
Nice video, there's a couple of games I'll look at a bit closer.
Thank you
Perfect timing, just bought a 2dsXL and am picking up and playing all the RPGs on it.
Old comment but the bright side is the 3ds will always be worthwhile.
Great list.
Thanks!
I'm surprised how low Stella Glow is, these other games must be really good. I'll check out Alliance Alive
Culdcept Revolt is SO DAMN GOOOOOOOOOD!
Yeah.
Erick buenos videos, pero de casualidad en el futuro podrías dar una opción de subtitulados en español para tu público de Latinoamérica? Siempre me pierdo en una o 2 cosas que dices.
Sigue así ~
Saludos.
Podria intentar ponerle subtitulos aunque no se cómo poner subtitulos si me dices te podría hacer el favor
A rpg game is a game were you role play as a character(basically every game)
Great vídeo
Thank you.
i highly recommend 7th dragon - best battle system ever -8 classes est. 20 skills influent each other, ex skills(super powerfull) - you can multiple buff u skils between character and on ourself and 1 shot supehard boss :D
You mean the original for the DS?
no, for 3ds mentioned in video :)
Ah. yes. Great game!
That intro
The legend of mana boss fight
Yep :D
"i play Code of princess for the comboes" ya right
I didn't say that, wtf?
it was a joke man, like "i watch porn for the plot"
But sadly, most of these games doesnt seem to have a good plot :S
I hope Crimson Shard from Level-5 is ported to the Nintendo Switch physically.
What does "Culdcept" mean?
Couldn't find anything through Google
radiant historia
NOT a hidden gem anymore, thankfully. It's my favourite 3ds RPG, actually ;) But nope, it's not as popular as others, sure, but it's not hidden at all.
Im not a big SMT/Persona fan outside P3P, but Soul Hacker was very enjoyable on 3ds
I thought about Soul Hackers, it was originally number 10 on this list, along with Ever Oasis. But those two are, I think, kind of popular, so I thought I'd give other games a chance.
@@ErickLandonRPG yea thats fair. I was glad to see it get some notariety at the time, its a really fun game.
Great lists as always 👍
Thank you. I've talked about SH before, though, check out the most underrated JRPGs video ;)
@@ErickLandonRPG o cool! I guess I missed one of ur videos then, thought I had watched all of them
i gotta get these.
I have all but 1 on this list already.
13:13 Absolute
I just bought the mercenary saga for the switch... Thanks!
No problem! I hope you enjoy it.
How do you get mercenaries saga for the 3ds. I cant find it anywhere.
Does the switch version come with all 3 or?
@@NoxiousRex yes it does... all 3 of them
This intro is better than the last lol
:D
In the intro, What game is where some swordmans fight and their names are shanam iron and marita maritaz?
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776
@@ErickLandonRPG thank You!!!
I loved tactics ogre
heh aside from that digital only one I already own all of these, was hoping to see something new =(
Trust me, the 3DS JRPG library is really good, but it's more like quality over quantity.
Damn......
Erick do you have a twitter or a way I can message you privately?
Facebook only
Nice shirt
Thanks
tales of the abyss and final fantasy explorers :)
Me quedo con tres: Culdcept Revolt, The Alliance Alive, y Stella Glow. Sobretodo Culdcept, es BUE NI SI MO.
Sí, es bastante adictivo.
Strange Journey
"Ignore criticisms of stories being called generic" yet just called Stella Glow generic a couple games back.. 💀
I have most of these games
Code Princess got the stupidest armor i've ever seen in a JRPG.
(Edit) 5:54 Those animations are on a new level of laziness.
I liked the demoes of Stella Glow and The Alliance Alive (Alliance Alive more than Stella Glow)
Sick of chibi jrpg on 3ds i want jrpg like tales of arise
Running out of video ideas? I know you already did one on fan translations. But, it might be good to get updates on ongoing ones, that are nearing release. Kind of like an info dump.
...Why do you say I'm running out of ideas? I've almost the entire year scheduled, just so you know =/
Oh, I was just thinking about what systems you haven't covered, and I couldn't think of many. Was just curious what you were going to do when you'd covered them all.
Let's see, I'm missing... all current gen ones, hahahaha. PS4, One and Switch. I've no money to purchase either =(
Are 3DS and PS Vita region free? Which one of these games came to Europe?
Would be cool, if you can say that, because I am sure that you have lots of European viewers like me from Germany.
I have no more problem with English only JRPG, since I have played Trails in the Sky and Cold Steel. So region free games with English only will be ok, no matter if it is handheld, console or PC.
I'll keep that in mind, thank you for requesting it. The Vita is region free as is the PS3, PSP and PS4. The 3DS as far as I'm concerned, is not.
3DS is region locked. I had to buy a Japanese 3DS to play Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2. On the Upside I'm gonna be playing Persona Q2 right after it comes out thanks to Play Asia
Just mod your 3Ds to remove region lock.
@@umbralchaos7429 Uhh ohh poooppiiieesss, poop your pants nooo diaperrr
I liked Stella Glow. Then I lost a battle where my last save was before a bunch of talk and a long unskippable cutscene. I stopped playing after that. I would've been happy to go back in and keep playing the game, but I'd lost faith that the developers had any respect for my time.
#1 I got it for the ps4
Wow theres an intro now.
:D
If only freeshop not dead...
Try 3dsiso
wow pedro pascal
Too bad I don’t have a 3DS....
#10- It looks a bit basic. There is no place in my collection for it since the action RPG The World Ends with you is already in my collection. #9- All of the criticisms about this game are pluses in my book. Though, overall it does not look like something I would want to own. #8-Just no. #7- I might pick this one up if it is cheap enough. I enjoy card battle systems and this one looks decent. #6- I am not sure about this one. Originality is one thing though I do not see anything about this game which says this is a game for me.#5- These games look like worse versions of Final Fantasy Tactics as you said. With all of the tactic RPGs out there and a very limited budget. There is no reason for me to pick up these games.#4 7 Dragon 3- The first few seconds of video of this game yelled you should get this game.#3 Lord of Magna- Just no. #2 Alliance Alive-
