It must be said, there's something very lovable about 89001. Perhaps it's simply because it's the only one of its class, and yet for its lone status it has a lot of endearing features. :)
Accurascale fast becoming Europe's premier model manufacturer. Wish they made more of each model. Very impressed by their original approach and their value for money. Way ahead of the incumbents. Credits to Mike and Richard for doing a splendid reveal and putting the significance of the Class 89 into context. I am sure it will be a winner.
i like the class 89s and i love the liveries on the model versions that will be released next year in 2023. (Intercity Swallow, Intercity British Rail Executive and GNER are my 3 favourite liveries.)
The 08s would be a very Accurascale type loco. Lots of liveries, lots of variants, and it needs updating as hornby is too expensive and bachmanns is out dated.
@@petersmith4455 the hornby 08 is good in terms of detail. But mechanically it needs upgrading. There is barely any room for a speaker and sound and wirh modern standards, it should have the shunting lights on both analogue and dcc.
Ooh I've not got an AC electric in my collection yet... the current guise is the on thats tempting me. I don't need an 89... but I need an 89 in my life. Great choice for a new model though, will be sure popular. Keep up the great work as ever and take care James
Nice Loco the class 89! I just wonder if the demand for it will be there? But im sure they know what they are doing? One offs seem to be the craze at the moment and price reflects this as stated, we can only wait and see?
Curious, why does the Class 89 have a North American knuckle coupler on one and and a UK buffer and screw link coupling on the other? Will you include the fold down knuckle coupler?
Several locomotive classes have or had a drop down buckeye coupling to enable them to couple to coaching stock. It's nothing new. Class 73s, 74s, 33/1s, 90s, 91s. With the buckeye lowered it allows the coupling hook and screw or three link couplings to be used instead, the buffers also have to be extended.
Just pre ordered avocet in its 1989 condition ,you two done a great job convincing me (I’m weak )😂😂all the best ,take care Mark . Ps Richard you can have one on New new junction 👍🏻😜
89 is cool but its frustrating that model producers continue to do obscure locos that barely saw service when most units that have been the backbone of UK transport for decades never get made
@@CustomiZe_ Honestly I think that's debatable. I can imagine a lot more modern image modellers would have use for say, an electrostar, literally the most common train in Britain, than a prototype electric loco that's spent the vast majority of its life out of service- even if it is cool
@@friendlylocalcatboy3197 yes but people modelling that era would only be the people who would buy that loco, whereas people whether they're modelling br blue era or steam era or even preservation era have a higher chance of buying the loco because its 1 of 1. Hi richard and Mike Once again what a cracking loco to now be made for the modellers but my only winge about it is why can't manufacturer's do the loco for both 00 gauge and n gauge as I have now switched fully to n gauge. Peter
I love the GNER gold, although the white may fit in better with my fleet of coaches. I put my name down at the expression of interest stage, but i can't afford to preorder it at the moment. I'm hoping to get a job soon, then I can preorder 18100 and 10100 and 89001 as well as buying a NER railcar and maybe the APT-E and finding a 2nd hand Lion. I really need to go to Barrow Hill.
Great video thoroughly enjoyed it even though I wouldn't buy one of these locos it would be good addition to the fleet. I anticipate that the next steam locomotive will be LNER design
Unfortunately, it does not fit in my Era of the East Coast Line, a bit like the Class 89 does not fit Richard or should that be the other way around. Enjoyed the video. Martin. (Thailand)
As much as I'm thrilled about this announcement, I am noticing they seem to be announcing more products rather than completing previous announcements, such as the Mk5a coaches for Caledonian sleeper and TPE. I placed a pre-order for a set of the Mk5a TPE set over a year ago and yet nothing. Hornby Magazine any chance of catch-up with accurascale about this product in the future?
Just as we thought Accurascale were bucking the trend of Hornby & Backmann in super hiked up prices they go and join them, hope this isn't the future of things from then otherwise the two locos of theirs I have on pre-order may be the last.
I would imagine that is the Rails of Sheffield influenced pricing system. Mind you as someone said elsewhere it's going to have a very limited appeal they need a high price tag.
In fairness to rails and accurascale, the cost of investment will be immense, in reality no different to the 55 or 37. The sales on the other hand will be a fraction of the aforementioned.
The 37 is 169, the 31 just announced is 169, all despite huge features, details and technology. The difference is that this loco is a one-off limited run
Variations and livery options come into play as by the time you've produced the first run it will be unlikely to sell as many the second time round. It's much the same as Dapol not wanting to do the 88 as there's only one livery choice despite the loco being very similar to the 68.

Yes true. I like the liveries Hornby offered but the old hornby tooling for a new comer to the British side of the hobby is too old for me.
