As a warmup I've found what also helps is to *intentionally flam* between the hands and foot -- make the flams all exactly the same size at given width -- starting with a wide flam and then bring them closer together until they lock in unison -- but be sure to make them all exactly the same size and clean at each given width. Flam between each hand followed by foot (rh-F rh-F rh-F rh-F, lh-F lh-F lh-F lh-F, rh-F rh-F lh-F lh-F rh-F rh-F lh-F lh-F, rh-F lh-F rh-F lh-F, rh-F lh-F rh-F lh-F), and between foot followed by each hand (f-RH f-RH f-RH f-RH , f-LH f-LH f-LH f-LH, f-RH f-RH f-LH f-LH f-RH f-LH f-RH f-LH). The flams must be very intentional and clean and shoiuld all sound exactly the same between any combination of hand and foot at a given width. It seems to force you to listen very closely and make the micro adjustments needed in coordination which help to lock in to unison.
Hey thank you for all of these. I‘ve been doing music my whole life but just recently started drumming and it’s been so damn frustrating trying to learn something this new. Your videos have been invaluable.
Exactly what I needed!!
