    -----------------------------TRANSCRIPT-----------------------------------
Hi, my name is Jason Applegate, and I’m running for District 72 for the state House of Representatives. That is 50 out of the 60 precincts here in Floyd county so ultimately almost all of Floyd county is the district.
I’m a graduate of New Albany, a 1995 graduate of New Albany, student athlete here, so go Bulldogs right? But, I also have a lot of family and friends and spent a lot of time with a lot of people from Floyd Central so Go Highlanders as well.
I seek this office for quite a few reasons. Mainly, I’ve spent a lot of time in this county and started my business in this county in New Albany. We started this, my wife and I, we are local business owners. We started our business to celebrate, southern Indiana. We felt that we were always an addendum to Louisville and or Indianapolis. A lot of the same reasons or reasons that I’ll explain in a few minutes about running for this office, but I also spent a lot of time as a on a lot of boards on nonprofit boards and then also I was a former city council, member and president of the New Albany city council, which I was very proud to serve there and have a budget for all the time that I was there.
With going back to what I was seeking for this office as I felt that we were always an addendum to Louisville and to Indianapolis and and I started a business here as I still feel that way that we are looked at like that from a government side, especially at the state house. So one of the things that I want to do is bring Floyd county first into the conversation. Bring Floyd county forward. Be able to look at and work with people across the aisle and bring money to southern Indiana. Not only the southern Indiana region but primarily to Floyd county talk to our resident show up on all the good days and on all the bad days as well listen to the constituents and make sure that our needs are met here. Also, act as a bridge between our county and city government which I have done while I was a city council member, and have a good relationship across both party lines and able to do that with working with the mayor of New Albany, the city council in New Albany, commissioners, county commissioners, and the county council.
I take a lot of pride in that, and that’s one of the things that I find that is needed in this area we need to taper down a lot of the politics and just get to get to work and do the work.
A lot of the things that I see right now in the state house for conversation has a lot to do with the economy. We need to work and bring more income and build the local and state economy. We’ve got to have a common sense tax relief plan as well. We do need to look at people's rights. We’ve gotta make sure that we take care of our LGBTQ plus community, and especially we need to work with and take care of women’s rights and their right to choose.
Another item speaking here on camera with a wonderful media department here in New Albany. I’ve worked with the media department here as well at Floyd Central as well for my personal business and we have a lot of bright talent. One of the issues that I see that’s on the forefront is it is the education. Our diplomas are up in the air. We’ve got really extended voucher program that’s taking a lot of money out of our primary public schools. Also, a lot of charters are popping up, taking those vouchers as well. We must address that or we’re gonna look down the road and find out that we’re not gonna be able to produce the high quality education as we do right now.
It is a pleasure to sit here in front of you. Thank you for taking the time to watch and especially that when you get out to vote November, I would appreciate your support and is Jason Applegate, and I'm running for House of Representatives District 72.
