    Aerodynamics, Safety concerns, and not always the easiest to work on! They definitely look cool, I enjoy seeing them rolling down the road but don’t see many nowadays.

  • @BubbaDoestheInternet

    Cab overs came about because of regulations on total truck and trailer length.
    They were never fuel efficent due to aerodynamics.
    Also, even with air ride suspension they were a beast on riding/driving in, further drivers were sick of having to crawl into the sleepers.
    Though COE's having advantages especially in turning rad, making local or operations were your drop and hooking a lot or bumping a lot of docks a day.

    “The large carriers that purchased cabovers, switched over to the conventional style rig, and the bottom rapidly fell out of the market for them in North America”. This led to the eventual halt of all COE manufacturing in North America.

    The reason they got rid of cab overs was yes of course safety was one of them the other biggest reason was to try to lift the cab up into the air to actually do maintenance that was the other main issue

      The other reason involves length regulations have increased. Honestly even when I was learn how to drive semi's on 18 wheels of steel I did not like driving cabovers I'm use to having a long nose on my rig instead of a short.

    The reason why cabovers was discontinued because of length restrictions were lifted and drivers went to conventional trucks.

    As a diesel tech. The bearings are located inside the hubs. You can't spray them to get them to move because there's a seal on the inner part of the hubs and bearings are internal. Good rp but just some help in that aspect. You also couldn't move the truck if it wouldn't start because there's no air available to release the breaks to get it to roll. You would have to drag it and that's always a good way to move them. Hope this helps when you make another rp like this one. The trucks look good. Waiting for the tlx semi tow truck mod to release. Would be a good asset to your heavy haul company. The COE trucks were discontinued due to safety reasons and were developed because overall vehicle length restrictions. The reason behind the discontinuing of those vehicles were because the cab had no protection from frontal accidents and the roof was basically just a piece of sheet metal. The COE design offered great access to the engine and drive line but the hydronic cab lifts were not as reliable and manually using the on board jack to lift the cab was more efficient. COEs also offered wider cab room and full bunks with plenty of room to move around. Again down fall was the flat nose. Aerodynamics were not a factor when these were developed and nor were fuel efficiency. There wasn't much room from the driver and the objects during a frontal collision and oftentimes the cabs would disconnect from the chassis or crush like a tin can. Alot of these trucks can be found on farms due to the turning radius and affordability. No COEs are in operations with big company's because there expencive to run and repair. Most likely seen as owner operators but again rare trucks. I've seen 5 in my 30 yrs and 4 were in farm fields rotting away like this rescued truck and 1 pulling a Wilson grain trailer.

    They made cabovers because they made the trailer regulation shorter and the nose of a regular semi was to long so they made the semis different. After a while they made the trailer regulation longer so nosed semis came back.

    Back in the 50s/60s us dot made a rule that you could only have a truck so long and a lot of trucks (conventionals) were too long so they made the best thing ever: cabovers! This is a late 80s-early 2000s pete 362 I have it on console nice video man oh I forgot the length was extended in the 90s and bottomed out in the 2000s and most cabovers disconnect here In america I’m 2006-2010 but the freightliner argosy went till 2020

  • @thecoolgamer4420
    @thecoolgamer4420 Год назад +2

    Cabovers came into style when the government regulated trucks to 65 feet in length so they made cabovers so they can shorten the length of the trucks and once they deregulated truck lengths the cabovers went out of style since truckers just like the conventional style more

  • @brandonljordan01
    @brandonljordan01 Год назад +1

    The reason the got rid of it was bc of ssftey and when they would be serviced the would have to tilt the cab of which would cause everything in the cab to fall on to the windshield which would most of the time Crack or even bust out the winshield

    In North America, they are considered an old school style of semi truck. Cabovers have a “flat-faced” look to them. They gained a lot of popularity between the 1940's and 1970's because it was possible to utilize more cargo space by reducing the Bumper to Back of Cab (BBC) ratio.

    the reason why companies dropped cab-overs is because the body of them is so flat that it just catches the wind making it use more fuel to travel whereas the standard semi is more airodynamic making it more fuel efficient.

    I Believe that the reason they got rid of cabovers is because they had a One it for the size of all trucks and then they extended the limit so other trucks came tobe and they didn’t use them anymore so they went out of style

  • @cameronlindblad288

    One of the reasons is that they got rid of the cabovers is because they didn't think it was very safe to be going down the road and you sitting on top of the engine and if you broke down they thought that there was no way to get to the engine unless you like actually lifted up the top part of the cab
