☕️ Hello, beautiful! Thank you so much for joining me today. What lessons have you learned recently in your home/homeschool? I would love to hear from you! This is a place of support and encouragement and you hold a special place here! 💗 Have a beautiful day! XO
Love the update and your excitement on your "new season" (high school/ drivers ed/ etc) Gather Round and reverse record keepign has been a game changer for us! I reached out to you for encouragement in the last two years (we were struggling BIG TIME) and you gave me such great words of wisdom and faith in this journey of ours. Thanks for your videos and I pray you will love the changes and even the challenges that come with teaching a high school student.
You are so sweet. THANK YOU for all your kind words. I am SO glad to hear that things are going a bit more smoothly for your family right now. 💜 May God bless you as you continue on this journey, mama. 🤗 And yes, embracing all the change...all the new seasons and soaking up every bit of it! Amen to that, mama! 💗🤗
Oh my goodness! WOW...I have made it so complicated by trying to color code my kids and writing the subjects on the side instead of their name. This makes sense in my mind. Thank you Thank you Thank you!! -Homeschool Momma Newbie
I’m a total planner. My kiddos are too. They love their to do list. We put our school to do list in a spiral notebook (thank you Sarah Mackenzie). I used to write the list and now they write their own list.
This is so true! I'm a very type-A list maker so I keep a planner with a loose idea of what I'd like to accomplish every day for each kid. My oldest is stressed out by lists. Truly anxiety-inducing for her. So it never occurred to me my middle would love it like me! So this school year he gets to check off the boxes himself as he completes things and hes actually flying through his days so much quicker now with that little bit of independence and responsibility. So keeping it in my planner but letting it sit out so he can see his day is what's working right now for us.
Your laid back style inspired me! I am a big list person and used to plan out exactly what school work we were going to do each day. That made me feel like we couldn't be flexible when stuff came up tho...so now instead I make a checklist for each kiddo of what I want them to get done for the week! If they check it all off before Friday, they get a free day! If something comes up and we don't get much done one day, it's ok because we have the rest of the week. Then I only record in my planner what we actually did at the end of the week. SO much less stress and more freedom!
We’re very similar. Totally reverse planner over here. I implemented a list for my kids for their independent subjects last year and 2 of my 3 boys thrive on it. The other still needs prompting to get his work done. But I love that I can just tell them to go check the chart and they can choose which subject they do when. Love it!
Last week I wrote my kid’s (2nd & 4th grader) to-do list on a large post it and they stuck it by where they were working. It allowed me to work with my kindergartener with less interruptions. Usually I work with him first and then shift to my two older kids. Then we work on any family learning when our core subjects are done. Those lists have made a world of difference!
We started last month with a very simple checklist and it’s been such a help for all of us too! They also do record keeping on their checklist so they are responsible to see their own progress. It’s been a great way to keep them accountable and responsible for their own work.
Oh your planner saved this new to homeschooling moma! I was panicking over planning! When I saw your video on how you do it I knew I could do that and it would be ok. Thank you!!!
Love this!! Thank you for sharing! I am very very new to this homeschool adventure we are working on month 3 and still figuring it all out which I know won't end but simple is exactly what we need especially to start
I remember watching something about how simply crossing off items on a to do list helps regulate brain chemistry/ improve positive chemicals - so it's interesting you said that he enjoys the to do list!
I have adhd and so does my youngest daughter who I homeschool. We both NEED lists. I make out to do lists then I put a few extra things on it as bonus items if you have time. We both get a kick out of it if we get those extras done too.
We plan similarly although i tell my kiddo what to do cuz she's pre-k. We don't plan to a T but just pick out what to do each day. And mostly reverse plan too.
Love checklists for my 2nd grader... I know he is young... but to make work and homeschooling work I need to have a list and he's so independent bc of this!
It’ll be neat to see in high school how they’ll start doing on their own, coming up with their own planning and then coming to you to show you what they learned on their own(that’s Sooo cool). We did a 4 day up until 9th then they decided their week as a whole on how to get it done(so if they still wanted a 4day they’d finish it earlier😉). Not sure if your counting that Friday they put a roof on/ mailing stuff you sold as a school day but we sure would…that’s totally awesome!! Best skills ever!!!!!!
Even though Gather Round is pretty predictable, my son asked for a checklist this year. I think it settles his mind to see exactly what is expected of him.
I reverse plan too and we're very laid back and we do what we do. I'm just not a plan every detail person, but I've seen my 7(almost 8) year old thrives with a basic checklist. So, I got a dry erase pad for the fridge. I wrote a basic plan for him to see. It's very simple. If he sees core- he knows we'll do Bible curriculum(we do Bible time to start everyday) math and LA. Mon, Wed,Fri we do core+ GR-space. Tues-is GR-U.S. H + 50 states Thurs- MB science. Sat&sun- are fun &church days. I told him those days are school if we want days.. and usually they do want to. But that helped him to see, ok we're going to touch on those things to some extent on those days. 🙂
YES! That is wonderful!!! A dry erase pad is a great idea. You are doing a great job, mama! I have to ask...for 50 States, what resource are you using?! It's time to add that for my two younger boys! 😍
@@SimplyLivingIt Well, I'm hoping GR will do a mini unit for us to go more in depth. I'm just doing this with my 7.5 & 6 year old right now. I just use a book my mom gave my little ones. America's 50 states, flash cards, a US map table cloth to color each state as we go. They'll journal about each state as we go.🙂
Love the planner and would like to purchase. My boys would like their planners individual, just checking is this a planner for each student? Or is it a planner combining students? If it’s a combined planner for multiple students, what would those excess pages look like? Do you have a flip through of it? :)
Hey there! Yes, I have a flip through of it here on youtube. I'll find the video and link it. You can use it for one student and break down subjects or use it for all, like I do!
I know you said you kind of go until you are ready to stop so do you take a big hunk off in summer or A certain number of weeks a year etc. how does that work for you? We’re looking at switching ours up because in Florida the summers are so hot the kids don’t really want to go out and play anyway
Hello! I am new here...looking at your planner, do you sell these? I have tried all different planners and I love simple. This is our 10th year and I'm still not sold out on a certain planner. Love your content so far~ thanks for sharing :-)
The planner is my own personal design! It is available for purchase as a PDF file. The price is $16.99. Shoot me an email if you're interested! 💜 justsimplylivingit@gmail.com
I always wonder how moms make their homeschool days so short. We spend at least 6 hours a day. I wish we could do short days, but we just don't get the work done in that time.
You can shoot me an email at justsimplylivingit@gmail.com and I will email you the file via email! I accept venmo for payment which I can send that info via email as well. 💕

I'm a list person and my daughter doesn't need a list. 😅 11 years homeschooling and still learning as well! Thank you for the video!
I love homeschooling to be able to change and adapt whenever when we need! 🥰
I'm there with you, Mama! I'll have a 9th grader too. So blessed to have found your channel!

This is similar to Sarah mackenzies method of the spiral notebook!! Love it!!!

All about the independent work and getting it done! 👏👏 So smart!
Yes! As they get older, they need more of that independence and responsibility! It's so healthy!

Love it- we can’t expect our kids to know what’s rolling around in our brains- this is setting them up to succeed. Laid back direction🙂

We have a 3/4 day a week school day because we co-op on Wed and Friday
Even though Gather Round is pretty predictable, my son asked for a checklist this year. I think it settles his mind to see exactly what is expected of him.
That is so great, Ashlee! 💜
I would have to agree with the "settling the mind" concept! Just wish I would have figured it out sooner! 🙉🤷♀️😬🤪
Thank you I really needed this today! Do you still sell your PDF of this I sent you an email that I found in an older video of yours:)
