But 6 months ago i got my hands on one of these, and they really blew me away. I already loved the older EW500 series, because they're such powerfull reliable workhorses. For myself i had some EW100's, for the price still great. Now i've sold them to start with the EW-DX. And i will add more bit by bit. I also got the IEMS g4 from Sennheiser. They're awesome too!
Hi quick question I was able to purchase the DX two channel I’ve noticed that the app says device not supported. Also the EW digital antenna splitter doesn’t power the newer unit like it does the previous models. Have you heard anything recently from sennhiser if they are going to make updates?
Hey there, where did you purchase this? Your Sennheiser dealer should be your first port of call and should be able to competently answer these questions for you. Currently EW-DX runs with Control Cockpit software, but isn't yet working with Smart Assist App. If the firmware is an older version you should update this (available as a download from the Sennheiser website). You are correct - EW-D antenna splitter will not provide enough current to power EW-DX receivers. You will need the higher spec EW-DX power supply and a power link cable do power the receivers.
@@djrashaunNJ EW-DX receivers need way more power than the single channel receivers. This cannot be fixed via Firmware updates. The Smart Assist app will be updated to accomodate the EW-DX components, from what I've heard. I think they have prioritized the EW-DP compatibility because the app will generally be used more by the EW-DP target group, is my suspicion.
Said you'd discuss range but never did? Otherwise great vid. Mostly curious about the range vs my current G4 units that I run at 50mW and am yet to have a dropout with. Also can I use my G4 capsules with these transmitters?
Hey Jake - we were referring to the product range rather than distance! Sorry for the confusion. It is always hard to talk about range (distance) as there are a huge number of factors that will affect this as you know. I would expect performance to be at least as good as G4 when it comes to range, and likely that you could theoretically achieve 100m+ when using paddle antennas like ADP-UHF. We might try and do a basic range test comparing G4 to EW-DX at some point soon, but range alone is not the main benefit of EW-DX and it is probably fairly uncommon to require more than 30-40m or so in most applications, which both would comfortably handle if configured correctly :)
Testing has shown that EW-DP is AT LEAST comparable to G4. Keep in mind, the digital signal allows for error correction (bits of data and audio are transmitted separately and the system can "look ahead"), and the diversity has been improved a lot, because with digital, there's no degradation, just a steep signal dropoff once the receiver cannot interpret the signal's contents properly. That leads to a very robust transmission and enhanced quality, even with "just" 10 mW of transmission power. Fascinating, really.

Typically, when we are talking about wireless transmitters, the "gain" adjusts how hard the mic capsule (handheld) hits the transmitter, but on these new EWDX wireless mics, if the "gain" is no longer adjustable on the transmitter, then what is the purpose of displaying the gain on the receiver? And, I assume the output level is what it has always been,....output level. Maybe now, the gain is how hard the transmitter is hitting the receiver, if that's the case, then it makes sense. I don't understand what purpose there is of displaying the "gain" on the receiver. TIA
@@user-jx3jp3gb4x just bought the regular ewd and asked myself the same question on my tests plugging the unit straight to the DAW I find it working like preamp gain, but like straight from the transmitter itself and really crystal clear so I set the AF out to the minimum possible and the gain to the max before clipping with my vocals great results and the sound quality is really amazing

When Sennheiser finally delivers the EWDX gear to Sweetwater Sound in the USA, I will finally have my own to test out and,... like you, ... I will connect it to Digital Performer and make tests and listen with a keen ear too. Have fun!
We don't have a confirmed shipping date yet Chris. Sennheiser have told us that we will hopefully see stock before Christmas, but we don't want to promise anything until we have actual dates confirmed.
Hey Alex - same systems just different frequency bands. Different ones are appropriate for different locations depending on local regulations and interference (mainly from TV stations). Q1-9 is 470.2 - 550 MHz (not available in Australia).
It will remain on there until you turn the transmitter back on. It doesn't require batteries to display do I assume it would remain there indefinitely if the transmitter is off.
SLXD is not in the same league. Shure ULXD or Axient Digital would be more of a comparison, but EW-DX has several advantages over both of these, and both are 2-3 times the price of EW-DX.

Do the default gain settings (21 input, 6AF) seem to work best for a unity again setup?

Latest firmware update now offers WSM connectivity. We've heard that Smart Assist app connectivity should be coming around October.

Are these backwards compatible? Can I use a EW-D microphone with a EW-DX receiver? If so I have the Q1-6 EW would I get the EW-DX Q1-9?
yes they are - so long as you're using the same frequencies. Obviously the EW-DX functions that are not available on EW-D will not be usable though.

Yes - gain can be adjusted via the app, however input gain is now within the receiver

If I program a frequency and synch it is this information lost when powered down. I want to avoid constant resynching.
Nope, it will retain the frequency and you will not need to resync when you turn back on.
Would the capsul to a e835 from a G3 handheld work on the handheld on the new EW-DX e835?
Yes - Sennheiser capsules are compatible including e835.

What's the difference with Daunte version?
The Dante versions are the same wireless system, but with on board Dante connectivity for use in Dante networks.
