I admire Polestar’s designs. They’re totally Product Design-y, yet at the same time, they prove that product design can still have plenty of visual interest without sacrificing its clean lines or needing to rely on superfluous decoration.
I think it looks great, and Polestar is doing a great job with their designs. They have a super strong design language and that’s something I can appreciate, especially with what brands have been doing recently. All the cars are super recognizable and you wouldn’t mistake it for anything else, which is important. Polestar is doing a great job of standing out in a sea of generic, boring EVs and that’s what makes them one of the best EV brands in my opinion.
During the latest couple of weeks, I have worked with the 3D visualizations and animations of the entire Polestar stand at Shanghai Auto Show where it was launched today. My images and movie clips was used to plan and prepare the presentations. BTW, the HiPhi X also doesn´t have any rear window. It have been around since last year (check it out, it´s cyberpunk in car form!).
they usually release the more costly variants first and then see demand for lower battery versions and release it (if it's profitable).. they done same with ps2, release LR DM / performance first .. In our country Mustang Mach-E did same, etc etc, like many brands do it, Kia EV6 also first released with LR DM, then later LR SM and SR SM ... and then finally the GT
The ID.7 has a height of 1538 mm and the Polestar 4 has a height of 1544 mm, one of them is supposed to be a limousine, the other one an SUV. The BMW i7 (a limousine as well) has the exact same height of 1544 mm.
Polestar calls it a coupè-SUV because the car has the sleek efficient design of a coupè and due to the fact that they skipped the rear window allows for better space in the rear seat, just like an SUV. Polestar is redefining what a coupe-suv is 😎 Love the design! As a longtime owner of the P2 (with rear windows tinted black) which has very limited view through the rear window I`m not worried about the missing window. I almost always only use the rear camera and side mirrors anyway. Now, if Polestar could get up to speed with their software development too, this P4 could be really promising.
My biggest concern about the rear camera, everyone already knows how bad the feed gets when the backup camera gets dirty, it's way easier to see thru a dirty glass than a dirty camera
This is a reskin of the Zeekr0001 and the first Polestar that isn't based on a Volvo. Since I've never seen a Zeekr in the metal I don't know what to make of this car. But this is definitely lacking some Polestar signatures inside although the materials seem to be sourced from Volvo. It's a nice looking vehicle, however. It is a bloated sedan and I like the look of sedans vs. crossovers. My guess is they based it on a Zeekr to get it out fast. The Polestar 5 and 6 look like Volvo-based cars (dash, seats, vents, switches, shared with Volvo opposed to Zeekr or other).
@@chidorirasenganz The P5 is a different car. Zeekr 001 is clearly the P4 closest relative. But who cares. It's Swedish engineering behind all of them. :)
Not sure how I feel about the cameras flaring out from the sides. No rear windows will definitely make for a different driving experience that you'd have to adjust to, but not a deal breaker for me.
I'm also worried about the side mirrors too. They have some sort of technology in there if you look closely. If someone knocks one of these mirrors of, it will be very very expensive. And it will happen.
In the 90's my Buick's rear view mirror would fall off due to the heat affecting the glue. So something as simple as a rear view mirror could also "break." So if the camera breaks, you just gotta fix it. Just gonna be a lot more expensive than glue.
I am not sure about not having a rear window. You have to think about when backing up, I like to use the rear window in conjugation with the back-up camera.
I also thought I did that, but analysing my back up behavior showed that I besides the backup camera and 360 on my screen only ever look in the rear view mirror and the back window on the passenger side. Never do I look directly out of the rear window
I thought the same! An updated Polestar 2 without the issue of that hump on the rear pillar. It’s smaller than the Ford Mustang Mach-e. Definitely not an “SUV”, I wouldn’t even say: cross-over. 🤷🏾♂️
Anyone else noticed there's a rear window shaped panel or it at least looks like shut lines for a separate panel? @Bembli any thoughts on that? Before I saw a video of the interior I thought it was glass with a wrap or some coating to look like body colour which still allowed visibility fro inside but clearly not having seen videos of the interiors rear looking backwards.
I have been looking too many audirings and bimmer propellers in my rear view mirror so I do not use it anymore. I have excellent side mirrors, rear view camera and 360 cameras. So I can manage really well car without rear window.
"Is this an F-22 Raptor?" 🤣 I am not convinced by the absence of rear window of this fast/hatchback with a roofline that, with not rear window, might be way too dark 🤔🤷🏿♂️
Rear window is not an issue given it has a rear view mirror (camera fed). I am laughing thinking of those who still wrap their arms around the passenger seat and look backwards 😂 Also top down view is far superior to see kids / animals when reversing
The HiPhi Z also doesn't have a rear window. Polestar teased the omission of a rear window with the precept and the production polestar 5 will also not have a rear window
@Bemli - I am curious on what you think re the black coloured scallops and rear vs the body coloured. It would seem to me that the black coloured scallops but with a body coloured under like what the polestar 5 would be a nice implementation
Like Cadillac, I think that Polestar is proving that EV design identity does not have to be a single concept (e.g., any Tesla thus far). Both of these car makers are demonstrating that you can create a uniform and unique a perspective.
For some reason it reminds me of the Lotus Eletre. It's like a more square version. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they call it an SUV. As you said, they use this word for pretty much everything these days.
The Eletre has a lot of its own design elements. This Polestar, unlike others, is based on a Zeekr. The seats, the dash layout, the landscape screen as opposed to portrait on all other Polestars, these are all from Zeekr, not Polestar/Volvo. This surprised me as I didn't think Polestar would go to a different brand's part bin. I know people think since they're all Geely owned that they all use the same parts but that's not true. Volvo and Polestar had their unique parts they used. This changes that pattern. Zeekr is also designed in Sweden but inside more catered to the Chinese market. But, the treatment of the elements in the Polestar is still done in a Scandinavian presentation, though the pieces are different. You know this car is different because if you look at the Polestar 3, the Polestar 5, and the Polestar 6 the back window is upswept. It's a different shape in this car, almost exactly like the Zeekr001 which is similar to the Lotus Eletre.

I would NEVER ride CHINESE car 🎉🎉
At least better than American car
Chinese cars are everywhere nowadays. It's your choice to not buy one but maybe you'll change your mind because they're dominating the market right now. Especially electric cars. When you know that they're dominating the market then they must be doing something right.
Calling it SUV probably is a form of excuse for making a bulky, ugly, heavy car.
So much prettier than German and American cars nowadays. I’m really happy that the Chinese are taking over the car industry ❤
Isn’t polestar Swedish though?
@@DerCharacter It's owned by chinese company.
@@vladislavdimitrov4646 yeah I think Geely owns them. Is Polestar *run* by Swedes still?
@@TheAceKannon I don't know.
@@TheAceKannon it still is, yes
Design is getting Crazy. No rear windows, yokes, Lincoln's crazy dash. I'm shocked that the Government, is allowing a lot of this things for Safety...
WHY TF DOES POLESTAR HAVE 3 ALMOST IDENTICAL LOOKING SUV'S IN THEIR LINE UP
Usually spot on buddy, but have to disagree on this one. Rear side view reminds me of i-Pace. I.e. looks like the car is running away from the rear axle.
I wish polestar keep this design language and not follow other manufacturers
A car with absolutely no emotion. Reminds me of a refrigerator or a USB🥴
