- Giant king tides and foul weather produced tumultuous waves dozens of feet high that smashed the Oregon and southwest Washington Coast Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020. The weather attracted storm chasers and photographers.
Storm viewers stood through sheets of heavy rain to watch waves crash and beat the shorelines. The stormy weather and heavy surf are expected to continue Sunday.
The National Weather Surface warns people to be extra vigilant along the coast. The videos were taken from Cannon Beach in Oregon and Waikiki Beach on the Long Beach Peninsula in Washington.
I guess you had to be there to experience it, but I just wasted 2 minutes.
@Daniel Jimenez have you read the news today? 40y/o transplant living in Portland went there, he was found and in hospital, his 7 y/o daughter found dead, search called off for his 4 y/o who were all caught by a sneaker wave while standing up on that jetty. Go ahead, make jokes.
@@ELBlDu shut the fuck up not everyone cares about every stranger that fucking dies
this was just 2 minutes of shitty footage of not tides
Wow!! People on a concrete abutment and foam... my life is complete.
So this is where the shampoo ends up when we shower🤔 I had no idea
whale semen... its mating season
you funny
It should. Pompano Beach, Florida has a sewer line draining in the ocean. Officials claim it's treated. I'm not buying that.
@@dmbworks8094 no it isnt, its mid migration. They dont mate while migrating. Its algae from chemical fertilizers and detergent with phosphates. Tide is the worse polluter out there
@@ELBlDu haha.. well I don't wash my cloths much so its not me!
Those logs are worth about a couple hundred grand, rich people pay out the ass for water logged slab wood
Lol
But why? Decorative wooden dildos?
Just like they pay out of the ass for expensive waterfront homes that get washed away b/c beach erosion
Stunning, this was in my Top News Feed. Drama where there is none. Lol, thought I'd see something interesting.
I miss Oregon's winter dramas. In about 1992 we were staying on the coast in January to whale watch. We had 10' -15' waves that washed in pink quartz rocks about the size of cinder blocks. The beach was littered with them.
epstein didn't kill himself
Sure he did.😎
they have good weed in Oregon!
The Walking Dude Yeah a lot of the outdoor is grown in southern Oregon, the whole state has great weed though. You have to know the store that you're buying from a little bit
@@john5012 nahhh
@The Walking Dude indeed. I happen to live in southern OR, off the 199. And was in Humboldt CA for years prior. We most def are the mecca of good herb.
@The Walking Dude what
Yes they do! And tons of homeless people.
A real snoozefest, brought to you by the intrepid journalists at the Oregonian.
It's a snoozefest that can turn into a tragedy within a second, that's the draw of it. Water is a very underestimated force in this word.
Thanks for uploading .
Wow, how exciting, i would stand out in pounding rain to watch ...foamy surf? Damn it must be,boring as f--k there, no wonder there is such a meth problem.
This is the best comment lol
Please take your meds
Where in the US do you think life is more exciting?
@Lanz Monroe He's being a bit sarcastic but I wouldn't say he's entirely wrong, either. Look at the northwest tip of Oregon like where around this was filmed, Astoria, Warrenton and even Seaside have problems with homeless and drug addiction. It's definitely not exclusive to these areas, but there definitely are a lot of people out on the streets there that need help.
@@rustyshackleford1697 like almost anywhere in the USA what about appalachia, most of the south. Way worse than Oregon.
Are you sure thats not the foam stuff (c8) chemical from the Dupont water run off?
People that watched the documentary will know exactly what I am talking about.
We all have teflon in our blood. Every single human on Earth basically.
@@spin-cthrowshands5553 yup, and the only clean blood we have on record is from us soldiers blood samples from before Dupont started making teflon. Whats sad is 3m told dupont specifically (on paper) not to drain any chemicals into any waterway.
What's the documentary
_Kodiak _ the Devil we know. I think everyone should know about this.
@@bearski8947 it's on netflix called The devil we know. It shows how heartless and f'd up Dupont really is.
Very beautiful! This is what I miss about visiting Oregon.
And the people. I still get letters from my bff.
@phục êwê ever been? Doubt it. Hopefully you never will.
Ok sea foam what's so special it's normal when it's winter.
Florida coast line: hold my starfish.
@salokin G 😂💀
Loser
Hey Oregonian, thanks for posting this. Stay safe and don't play near the ocean, folks.
My fav beach is Kalaloch on the Washington coast, especially in the winter when storms deposit white cedar tree trunks from Alaska on the beach. My definition of driftwood...
Is that pollution or did someone put detergent in the ocean
Looks like natural, organic sea foam and froth..... 🤔
@@gus473 dont use the words natural or organic, thr yuppies will try to raise the cost of ocean foam.
Pretty sure it's Diatoms. They're micro organisms that create that foam to live in, basically almost like Plankton or other tiny sea creatures.
It's proteins. Natural.
Waves in Lake Michigan are way larger then these!
This doesn't actually show the waves
can you imagen all that beautiful furniture that can be made with all that beautiful beach wood.
Why is this news?
Better then people dying or war
Their tired of covering the homeless problems in Eugene/Portland.
How is this not news?
It's an unusual event occurring in this media outlets state that has caused a swell of people to visit.
I haven't seen Haystack Rock in 50 years...Must be near Astoria Ore.
Haystack is at Cannon Beach, a good bit south of Astoria
barb rarick Tone is difficult to interpret through plain text on a screen. My comment was meant to be helpful. "Near" is certainly relative, and for many Oregonians a trip to Cannon beach doesn't involve driving south. Have a great weekend, Barb.
Looked like tolovana park or around Cannon Beach somewhere
@@jarnold1789 Well it has been 50 years. We used to go up and down the coast digging clams.I had a son in Astoria and a daughter in Seaside in the 60's.
Judy That's wonderful! Come back and visit again if you can
Sorry guys. A King tide is what exactly?
Aww Skeet Skeet!
What is that foam stuff?
Wild. I had just visited those beaches 2 months ago
Did this also hit King County Washington?
Awesome!! I was trying to figure out somewhere to take the family tomorrow, we thought about going to Bagby Hot Springs. I think we might go to the coast instead. Then again, hot tubs sound pretty nice :)
I was considering going to breitenbush hot springs tomorrow 😃
Stay away from the water. Two children, an adult male and a chihuahua have all fallen victim to the tides today. One child and the adult were recovered but are unresponsive. The search for the other child has been called off. It can happen to anyone and people get stupid trying to get a cool picture.
Avoid Bagby
King?
So what does mean for Washington and Oregon. Should I be worried?
It's a king tide. Happens regularly
carpo719 ok thanks
Da Head Coach good one! 🐳🐟🐋🐬🐡🌊🌊🌊
We are not taking anymore ❄️❄️❄️❄️🐒🐒🐒🐒
Da Head Coach WELL CRAP! I BETTER 🏃🏻♂️
Wait a minute... Is that 🐳Whale jizz?... 😂🤪
Love it
Awh i missed it...
Is this where the family was swept out to sea?
Grant's Pass 'waving' hi 👋 One question...will that ugly foam damage the undercarriage of that car?
we can only hope.
Thanks for sharing. Seaweed might hit you in California -- heavy logs in Oregon.
Fun fact: Sea foam is actually fish sperm.
and farts
🙊 you nasty
@Crown royal Its whale jizz dont lie.
I’m from Texas, so I’m not understanding what is going on. What’s the big deal? What am I missing here?
King tide is when the moon is closest to the earth and when the sun, moon, and earth align, creating an extra high tide, its naturally occurring, they are just pushing further inland from sea level rise. the trees are from local flooding, when rivers swell they uproot trees and wash them out to oceans/seas, there are always a lot of them floating out there, it takes significant tides to push them ashore.
Hippity Hoppity Your Stuff Is Now My Property what that guy just said. Tides are constantly changing through cycles every day but yeah king tides are just high tides on steroids. Cool thing to watch for marine bio nerds and people in general
What is that foam from👀 does not look good
Umm, was this video shot on a Commodore 64? You're a news channel?
Wondering about Radiation ! Fukushima style
What is the foamy stuff?
It's boo boo
its sea foam, its decomposing algae. baby algae can use it to travel and go air born. the circle of life.
gisforgary Thank you.
Where's one eye willy?
What exactly is king tide?
a perigean spring tide
Breathtaking at its finest..... But where's the monstrous wave I was promised...... Refund
Looks like a good swim
going to be having Tidal waves when the BIG ONE HITS ….on the subduction zone a few miles off shore
@phục êwê FUCK you again. Trumptard.
Here, there's seawater rising through the storm drains on Miami Beach. The city officials lied by claiming it's broken pipes. There's no saltwater in any underground pipes. I haven't worn a jacket in Miami since 1990. Something is not right...had my A/C cranked on Christmas Day......again.
What causes this ?
Dude in Yellow had on A Bama Hat. Roll Tide!
LOL
1:15 now thats a mad lad

@phục êwê right
@phục êwê 😂😂😂
Thats a whole lot of floof.
Wheres the surfers at?
Perhaps the logs killed them?
Moron. So stupid. Don't try to think. You will hurt yourself.
Those waves should not be reaching buildings
Damn, I was just out at La Push 5 days ago... It is so fuckin' cool on the West coast. That Pacific ocean is bad ass.
"The god damn storm is coming man" - Anon
What was I watching? King tides???
phục êwê whats a king tide im confused?
Isn't form pollution, chemicals or dangerous?
Is this a gift from the Japanese? A frothy driftwood milkshake of contaminated material...
Google "spume."
King tide and no Aquaman? Well that sucks.
Looks like someone put way to much soap in the washer. What the hell is up with that nasty foam?
So I just sat here for 2 whole minutes watching tides in action? Man I gotta do something with my life🤦
Plus, you took the time to comment😂
Just a tip........
One CAN take video in landscape mode.......
Go to Best Buy etc. and they'll be happy to show you how!
Is this because of the wolf moon?
It's the cockroach moon
weirdshibainu
I have the Ring of Hircine. You have no power here
@@universal_wisdom3416 fuck off. Mother nature laughs at both of us
its 1/3 because of the wolf moon, 1/3 because its a really close wolf moon., and 1/3 because of the anthropocene epoch.
I thought the tide looked incredibly high yesterday, SE Alaska
Massive-Headwound Harry stay warm!
Im not that good of a swimmer and the Pacific scared the heck out of me .😳
Masses of quivering foam.
Nice scenes of future houses to be washed away by the Pacific???
There is nothing depicted in the video that even comes close to "waves dozens of feet high." What the fuck are they talking about?
Did you happen to catch any of them on film? 😂
Phil would say that's from crab farts! crabbing season!
Looks like Cannon Beach to me
Awww fuk who spilt the dish soap in the ocean?!?!?
Surprised they let cars on the beach in this weather.
*They storm is coming for us all* magi ost
@Meyaka Brown its a music ost from RUclips lol
@Meyaka Brown yea your right had to correct that lol
So that's where Whipped Cream comes from?
The foam is fish sperm
This is normal winter ocean -- why is everyone making a big deal about it?!
I just see waves. They don't look any different than your typical wave you see in California or Hawaii
The National Weather Surface? Kindly spell-check before publishing
Spell check wouldn't catch that.
I misspoke. What I meant to say is proofread. (I guess that kind of diminishes my argument a bit lol)
@@zalmanaronow6126 I'm pretty sure boomers use unpaid interns to do all this stuff, cause boomers gotta boomer.
Boomhauer: ... Mhmm
I was very young and stupid the last time I played chicken 🐓 with the ocean 🌊. I found out that it is very deep and WET! And cold 🥶! Now, I’m content to keep my feet 🦶 🦶 dry.
Hahaha, this will not translate to the rest of the world but it’s crazy in person
Looks like water.
I'd absolutely have a crew go and pick up all that wood on the shoreline. It could be valuable fuel or the perfect wood to use in musical instruments. The sea foam is kinda nasty though. I hope that's not pollution. Edit: Research says it's partly pollution. Ick.
sea foam is a natural process though, it should be predominately decomposing algae and young algae can use it to travel, even go air born.
That is illegal. Go for it moron.
thats how they make seafoam
What is that white foam? Looks fucking nasty. I would never swim in that water.
I see foam ocean puke from fukashimi spiking the punch!
I suppose that this is the only way to comment on Oregon Live articles since they arbitrarily shut down the commenting.
They can do whatever they want. Its mainly to keep the jerks away. Like you.
@Crown royal edgy. That really hurt.😂
Signs the subduction zones active again
This has nothing to do with earthquakes or a subduction zone. What are you talkin about?
carpo719 I thought it was because of trump
Yeah trump did it. Carpo. Sad do you even know what the cascadia subduction zone is?
Ummm why is this news?
Where is Puerto Rico on the top news??? Hello??? Did u forget about the huge earthquakes and no mention from the president???
Looks like water to me
audio is unbearable
Nice day for a bubble bath
The foam is actually whale sperm
Perhaps this can also be blamed on global warming and therefore Trump?
I'll blame you. Trumptard. .
stfu
😄😄😄
I blame all the people that tell you lies about global warming. Fact is all the weather records were set back before concrete ever existed! All that b.s. is just the socialist democrats way to get your money into they're pockets!!
@@AtomicPunx Oh yeah, right. Because democrats are known for their mercenary traits. I think you have your parties confused.
