    I disagree to some or many statements of this vid. I never saw Johan's greed for power, I think he seeks identity and the truth if he's really loved by her mother. And I'm not sure if he really lied to any of his victim, I think he just speaks of the darker truth which draw his victim to utmost terror or guilt. If he seeks power, he could very well made use of the extremist supporting him or took the fortune of the wealthy old man. But when he met tenma, everything changes, he wanted to prove a point to tenma, that life is nothing special.

    • @amritas2400
      @amritas2400 10 месяцев назад

      You said that he didn't lie to his victims, but I don't think that's true. First off, Johan doesn't get a lot of screen time, and we only get to see a few instances of his manipulation. Secondly, we do once get to see Johan blatantly lying, rather than telling the darker truth -- it was with Inspector Suk. Johan pretends to be Anna and instill romantic feelings in Suk and says, "I feel the same way your mother did, so (don't tell those secrets to the authorities)." The whole thing was a lie, right. I'm pretty sure he's told bigger lies that has broken a lot of people's hearts. All manipulators do.

    So.....what is this "charm" exactly?

    • @Guys_Love_Each_Other
      @Guys_Love_Each_Other 10 месяцев назад

      Charm is natural behavior that boosts the ego of someone else. The charmer's focused attention validates the target. Some examples:
      A student with a natural interest in the subject can easily charm professors. The student's hungry attention illuminates the knowledge of the professor, who's ego and personal history are validated.
      A sales person can charm a customer. The target's ego gets fed steadily with focused attention and pleasant delusions, until the dam breaks. This takes many forms. Sales people can pretend to have the same hobby as the customer. A young man can close the sale more easily if the customer is a middle-aged woman.
      A good waiter can charm his guests. He glosses over their faults and entertains with a smile and expert care.
      Seduction doesn't always rely on looks. The sight of youth can get old, but charm never gets old. There is always the next avenue of flattery.
      To be charming, you must tone down your ego, either by nature or by force. You can't focus attention on someone while grabbing it from them. It is hard to fake natural behavior, so usually you can't choose whom to charm. Instead, you discover which types have egos that like your type of attention. As your ego becomes less needy with psychological development, you can charm a wider range of targets.

    1.) Emotional manipulation
    2.) Gaslighting
    3.) controlling information
    Not mentioned:
    4.) Dressing up as somebody else (Johan dresses up as a female and tells a little boy where he can find his mother. The little boy believes "the woman" and goes running off, alone, into a bad neighborhood of town. "I'm going to find my mom! Yay!"
    Johan, does not help the boy further, instead he goes home and takes off his women's wig and makeup and laughs in the mirror)
    5.) Paying money for silence/compliance
    (In a scene where Johan confronts an arrogant lady who thinks she is the leader of their conversation. She soon finds out this is false when her partner is secretly on Johan's side. Johan leaves the house and a homeless lady is selling balloons on the street corner. He pays her money and takes a single balloon (wayyy more than he paid for) so she doesn't talk to police and say he was there.)
    6.) Using fear (there are plenty of examples in the anime)

      In addition to the dressing up I’d add honey potting. He dressed up as Anna and worked a romance scam on that one guy.

      In the scene with fake Margot Johan was making an alibi by being as noticeable as possible to make them remember him. Why? Because a shot was fired long after Johan had left Margot while he was at the streets buying balloons and giving money for drugs. No one knows who shot Margot and even if someone knew that Johan was visiting Margot, they still have no evidence against him at least because he had an alibi that was easy to confirm
