How to Braid Hard Neck Garlic

  • In this video I show you how to braid hard Neck garlics to create beautiful hanging pieces of art. This braiding technique will keep the garlic fresh to use and create wonderful gifts for your friends and family.

    I braid mine when the stalks are still green as they’re supple then hang to cure.

    I never thought about braiding hardneck garlic (braided softneck for many years).
    Too late this year for most of mine, as the stems are hard & dry but I've around 30 late maturing which were only harvested a week ago, so another week & I'll try this.

    I planted only hardneck garlic and this was good method for them. Can't wait for autumn when I will plant more.

    That’s perfect because they’re not touching each other like soft neck would be. Gotta get the timing right but that’s not too difficult. I’m definitely going to try

    Beautiful! A rolling pin rolled over the stalks would also help to soften them, and I also like the one comment someone left about using a hammer to soften the stalks also. Do you start cutting them off first from the top of the braid, or from the bottom sides and work your way upward? Thank you!

    I tried your way but there were lots of fruit bugs if you braid before you cure it

      If you braid before cure them, you get A lot of fruit bugs and eventually they get rotten

    2 weeks after harvest your garlic is best time to braid
