The sourest thing you can consume is straight malic acid. I remember Wreckless Eating did it back in the day. It'd be hilarious to see Morgan's reaction. lol If you try it, make sure to only do about a tablespoon or less. If you take too much, it can give you a mild chemical burn on your tongue. Nothing too bad. But it'll ruin food for you for a few days.
I remember I convinced my mom to get me an entire Costco box of Super Shock Tarts I think they were called for a camping trip I went on when I was younger. The more extreme version of Shock Tarts basically. Anyway, I basically came home without taste buds.
I would absolutely ace this challenge. I absolutely love sour candy. Pretty much anything you can regularly get in the store doesn't do much for me anywhere. Sour Skittles are decent. Warheads and Toxic Waste are sour, but they still don't really present a problem for me. It's more the damage they do to my tongue that keeps me from eating them. Plus, I try to limit my acid to keep my teeth healthy. I honestly buy limes from the store to eat straight up since they're the only thing remotely makes me say, that's sour. I did find a candy made by Barnett's that is quite sour. Aside from buying malic and citric acid and making my own candy, I don't think they sell anything more sour. I guess to a certain degree, it would just absolutely destroy your teeth enamel. My dad is a dentist, ironically.
i eat lemons and limes the same way too, always loved sour candies but only eat them once in a while because I dont want to intake all that sugar. "Chupa Chups Sour Infernals Jellies" have been the best tasting sour gummies I've found in recent times, but its sad bc I dont think you can find it in the US without ordering online

I can eat 2 lemons without any issue since it sour at beginning but it goes away fast once you get used to it, but I can only eat 1 Citrus because the bitter on skin amplifies it. Dont get me wrong, Bitter can remove sour taste too, but it depends of the concentration of it, more bitter means it will supress the sourness while on small amount will enhance the sourness. Thats why Asian and Latins used Lime zest while European and North American prefer Lemon Zest as food ingredients.
I ordered the 1UP challenge and was extremely disappointed. It was literally not sour at all. My friend and I did it. As soon as we popped them in our mouths, we looked at each other and were like. This is not sour at all! Such a scam.

In fact, some people even believe that we are Homo sapiens because we started to cook allowing us to grow bigger brains. I’m not an expert in the field, far from it, (I assume you too) but Adam Ragusea has a nice video on it about paleo and keto (raw) diets.
I think the candy didn't hurt as bad, because they gradually built up the sourness. So it did not have that surprise shock effect on their tongue. Edit : I'm not calling them out, just thinking out loud, wondering why it didn't feel that bad for them.

I remember getting some "Super Sour Fizz Balls" from sweet shops in the UK and they are the most sour thing I've ever tasted. Way more than the other candy you tried. Would be interesting to see how they stack up against this 1UP challenge. Can't see any comparison videos online anywhere.
The world's real sourest candy is actually Black Death. Burning lasts for up to 30 seconds and can be so sour that some people can't even feel it. The center is also filled with a line of more citric acid, and the first layer of the candy is just pure citric acid. It's also hard candy so you can't chew your way out of it easily, if at all
It also helps you fried all of your taste bud receptors prior to the challenge, thus making the gummies 'less sour' and not as effective. And defeating the entire purpose.

the lemon seemed more sour because your mouth was very acidic from all the candy.. there's something called the "lemon test" that can, at-a-glance, determine the pH of your mouth. If your pH is more alkaline (as a healthy mouth should be) then the lemon will actually taste sweet! 🍋🍋
