- Does Tenerife want to ban brits and tourists? @no_soy_rubio and I investigated the Canary Islands (Tenerife), a Spanish/European archipelago off the coast of Africa to see if Europe's Hawaii-like getaway is being overexploited by tourism.. Are there any authentic places left that aren't destroyed by tourism? Find out in this video..

Adventure Elliot is a bilingual travel vlogger (English and Spanish) with a particular interest in the Spanish speaking world. I enjoy taking adventures - big or small - and my goal is to show the Spanish speaking world 1 video at a time.
The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I've made over 150 RUclips videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. After all, we're just getting started.

Yes I did
As a Sevillano, I can assure you 'usted' is used on the pennisula also, especially when speaking to older people, people you don't know and in a professional setting.
I think Madeira is the Hawaii of Europe
From Tenerife myself, born and raised. Good to see you truly exploring the beauty of the island. Yes tourism runs our economy but the over saturation is horrible and causes a lot of problem for the locals. To the point that the politicians want to destroy natural spaces and biodiversity, marine life too; just to build more hotels for tourists instead of apartments and homes for us locals. We're not saying dont visit the island, but it's just too saturated, especially those tourists who own houses in the island and see it as a retirement home ... Visit the island but dont colonize it (which is what's happening)
Hello, you will love part 2 if you liked this video.. Part 2 is more in depth and more rural. I have a Spanish channel (check the description of this video) where I'm also uploading videos of the islands.. Un saludo
But without the tourist where is the local going to work, they dont have money, be thankful to the tourist without them local people will starve.
@@AdventureElliot definitely will!! Thank you so much, keep up the great work! Im currently away from home doing my studies abroad and seeing this video just made me miss my island, its always so pretty over there 🥹
you need to stand up for what is yours.
@@97_Fredo we try but yk how politics is. Greedy capitalists just after money. The population of the island has grown rapidly in a short span of time, the island is just not equipped for such a change
It is not they want to ban tourists. People, who work and live here, are not happy about rent prices. Some people who have more then one house can rent out to tourists and make 600€ a week easy, but at the same time rents are sky rocking for us, the people who live and work here. I live on a tourist place on the coast and in the last 3 years rents have doubled. Before i paid 300€, now 600€. Half of my income, 50%. Do you think that we want tourist out??? No, regulate the rents is what people want. I live from tourist like many others.
I’m been to Tenerife 14 times for 14 years beautiful place with great people ❤️❤️
No one can deny Elliot's outgoing spirit and skills to make new friends with both locals and strangers. He's always willing to step up to people and shake hands with them, while his British friend cautiously stays back. Elliot can give himself a medal 🥇 for shaking off his Wisconsin nature and successfully posing as another Spaniard. The Tenerife locals mixed him up with somebody from Seville. Congratulations, Elliot, on fitting in flawlessly with the Spanish people and culture! 👏🏻 For a visit to Tenerife, one must pack all sorts of clothes.
I can see why people in Tenerife are having a hard time the rents there have gone up a lot in the last few years; back in 2019 you could get a nice apartment for 600 euros a month now it’s more like 1200 a month for a small 2 bed apartment in the south
And the economy is much more limited there compared to the peninsula.. un saludo sunny beach
Amazing! looking forward to this series
Part 2 is better
I wish you showed a little map or something to indicate where you're at.... These places look great!!
Anaga park is a real jewel. I am Spanish but took me a long time to visit Canary Islands for the first time. I completely fell in love with them. And Anaga (quite the opposite of what you can see in the south of the island) is definitely one of my favourite places, if not the most. I have been there several times, doing a lot of hiking. The Laurisilva forest (endemic to that area in the ocean, due to the Alisios winds) is just spectacular, and then those cliffs (perfect combination for hiking), and a few very wild beaches (black sand this time). It is quite a wild area, with limited infrastructure (especially on the top part), there are fewer and fewer people living there. Btw, I also ate in that restaurant once, while I waited for the bus back to Santa Cruz. Cheers!!
Love your banter with everyone! Love it! Regards Lucy Western Australia
@AdventureElliot I love your videos and thank you so much for doing them, but I just cannot watch this one because I have eye problems and the flashing translation hurts them, plus they go so quick I can't read them. Please, please please go back to just normal subtitles so I can watch :)
Okay, this was an experiment.. Thanks for the feedback
Tenerife is a great Island to visit. But not in the summer season, then its realy overcrowdet. But its a beautieful Island
It’s stunningly beautiful
Good channel. Interesting. Now I don't actually show up in some of these places to see what they are like. A good example is this very video.
I’ve visited the island of Tenerife many times throughout my lifetime. As a youngster, visiting the island with my family and when I was older, on a packaged holiday with my friends. For me, Tenerife will always have a special place in my heart because it was the holiday destination I visited with my dad, after he was diagnosed with leukaemia. I’ll never forget that moment, me and my family took the cable car up towards the base station of Mount Teide where there is a relaxation area and cafe/restaurant. My mum and sister in law stayed there, and my dad, brother and me climbed the rest of the way on foot to the crater at the top. It was difficult for my dad because he was still mobile but needed a walking stick to get around. He struggled reaching the summit because the oxygen levels at that height was less but he did it with our help because he was determined to do it. Nowadays, due to rules and regulations you need a permit to climb to the summit of Mount Teide which spoils the spontaneity of climbing it. When I was last there with my friend I wanted to take the cable car and climb to the summit but it wasn’t meant to be because it was closed on that day, of all days… I hope someone restores the abandoned hotel as it was because it’s unique.
Hey, I'm glad I brought back good memories of your travels there with your Dad.. You will like part 2 of this video.. Un saludo and RIP to your pops
@@AdventureElliot Thank-you Elliott. I look forward to part 2. 🙏🏻 🍀
Why would you do the old man like that? 6:36 lmao. I can't help but to laugh at the way he's wearing those swimming trunks. I hope for this level of comfort and chill when i am a senior citizen.
11:57 Shouted out "kitty" as soon as I saw it, funny enough one of my own cats answered and came running to my computer. Really love kitties, they are such wonderful and funny animals 🥰
American here and my wife who is originally from Venezuela have lived in the north of Tenerife for over two years now. Love your adventures.
Hey brother .. what town do you live in? It would’ve been nice to meet up.. I was looking for Venezuelans for the 2nd video.. fortunately i found some.. not too difficult :D
I’m English, went to TereGREIF in the 80’s.
Was bad enough then, and much worse now I’d imagine. Can’t think of anything worse than a huge complex full of tourists.
Unemployment would be worse which is why tourism developed in the first place.
Great video boys I've visited all the Canary Islands and love to explore I'll be in gran Canaria in a couple of weeks time to catch up with old friends happy times enjoy your travels😂
Alcoholic Brits descend on the island frequently! I don't blame the residents for not wanting tourists there.
My British buddy and I didn’t see any of that because we didn’t waste our time in the sight side of the island. I could never make a good video en Los cristianos .. thanks for watching :)
I’m English & went there in the 80’s.
Was bad enough then & id not dream of ever going back.
Lived in Barcelona, been to Madrid & many Spanish holidays.
Not all English abroad are bad ….. 😉
I was also homeless in Tenerife in December. All the Europeans come for the Christmas holidays. We bunked in with another couple in their apartment. We were lucky. So were you.
Hey Marr.. thanks for always watching my videos. Yeah, we were homeless as well, it wasn’t a lie. We got accepted with the air bnb only because someone canceled at the last minute. We were literally just gonna sleep in our vehicle.. absolutely maddening.
Hi mate been watching all your videos past couple days as in Portugal next Monday, first trip abroad on my laz.
Thinking of traveling around a little maybe to Malaga after then Madrid and Barca would be good to come on one of these adventures with you or just a a couple beers. Let me know mate 😎 👍
I love your videos definetely similar point of view to me, you see the conections throught the history of colonizstions and comparing with the Americas, exactly very similar in some points.
Those cliffs remind me of some of the roads we drove on in Chile. Great video Elliot.
Chile, Andes Mountains, etc.. Great
Glad you found an Airbnb there. I would have to sleep in the car or that hotel with the German magazines. The locals like how you initiate conversation. BTW...Got my Spanish flu (had a cold this past week) out of the way.
Hey Elliot, been a while. You're at almost 100,000 subscribers on your English and Spanish channels! Think you've finished your days as an Aux! Thanks for encouraging me. Love my time as an Aux. Glad you've been able to stay in Spain. My house has been listed for months and it's about to expire, so I'm stuck here until interest rates come down. Will hopefully regroup in spring and try again. I guess living in one of the most aspired communities in the USA isn't so bad! LOL, nevertheless, I want out and will be in Spain ASAP. l
Hey Ken thanks for following me since day 1.. And yes, I've almost reached a milestone - 50k on both channels - and the truth is I've learned a ton. I would of course love to travel the world because if I did, I would easily have 100s of thousands of subscribers, but life circumstances have kept me in Spain.. I'm waiting for my residency - and as you know, it takes a long time (like selling your house, LOL).. As soon as I get my residency I'll make a video about it as well as start my next plan for this channel - which is gonna be a huge step forward. By the way, a couple from Florida who follows me just moved to Valencia and are buying a house there .. I've met up with that couple several times and they were soon keen on buying a house in Valencia - so when you finally make the move let me know so we can meet up too.. Un saludo
will do@@AdventureElliot
Now I can say I'm not the only one who's wandered around the island in a Blondie t-shirt. I can't say I get off the beaten track but I do like to sightsee different places in Tenerife for a day. I stay in Costa Adeje but have visited Los Gigantes, Santa Cruz, San Cristobal La Laguna, La Orotava, Candelaria and Pyramides de Guimar.
Hi.im going to north Tenerife ( Puerto de la Cruz) for xmas. And been there before.they LOVE tourists
In puerto yes they do because puerto attracts families and responsible tourists.. but as you saw in the video at the end there is some resentment towards tourists.. As a tourist at a resort you’re never gonna see how they truly feel. In general the canarios are very open however
The irony that we have taken in 10s if not 100s of millions of immigrants to Europe. But we restrict our selves to be tourists in Europe.
Esta vez fuimos con las turistas. ruclips.net/video/tbDJ-VgqaSI/видео.htmlsi=dqOXt4Sb1W2Pb1B_
Here in the Philippines we also chew/squeeze/eat sugarcane like that.
16:30 - What a treasure!!! Do you speak German btw?
Dear god.......what a ghastly place.
Another collab with Matt coming soon?
Unfortunately no. Although we’re both in Mexico right now
There’s hotels and quest houses all over Tenerife no probs getting a room
It's a complex topic, but the main issue that people are avoiding is that is not an issue about tourists, it's about MASS TOURISM, Spain it's oversaturated, tourists come the whole year and despite having some obvious benefits, it brings more problems.
So signs with "Go home tourists", fake danger signs at beaches and grafitti with tourists slur is all untrue?...
@@robocopleextraordinaire4148 Ofc, they are true but they are made for a reason, nobody would be talking about this issue without that, and this is the proof, locals have been complaining of this for AGES, but the moment that a giant wall says 'tourists go home' it's when people started to pay attention, because it started to affect them, when the problem affected to the locals only, nobody seems to care.
@@robocopleextraordinaire4148 Also you would be shocked about the amount of tourists that don't know how to behave, most of them are rude to the local workers, plus all the drunk tourist shouting and making parties where people live. I've been working every summer for 6 years in my family's restaurant in Tenerife, and If tourists were more friendly the story would be really different, I have seen things that you could never imagine there.
Wonderful video Elliot! Looking forward to part 2. Safe travels my friend
Hey Phil hope all is well down in Tejas.. Part two is probably the best adventure I've ever had, but it's gonna take over a week to edit because theres like 30 minutes of Spanish in it LOL take care
Just heard they've put a tourist tax on visiting Tenerife from next year I think.
Yeah, that's pretty normal in many countries.. IN portugal we payed 2 euro a night at the hotel for a tourist tax.. Whatever. Tenerife isn't against tourism, they just are tired of having all their local housing bought up by foreigners.. The islands don't have a lot of space
See any Presa Canrio dogs from the island?
Talking about prostitutes with total strangers?? And women no less? How awkward!
Great video. I'm exploring the Cabo de Gata right now.
Enjoy, Almeria is beautiful
@@AdventureElliot Yea it's great here. Looking at some houses to buy today.
The government neds to look at do more than just tourists need to deversify
Was kostet die Welt... Scheise 😂
why don't the locals move from the most tourist areas? I would also avoid those places.
The tourist places were once the the locals places.. they've been forced out
@@AdventureElliot but we can't turn back the clock what's done is done it would be like living in Skegness for a British person either be part of the tourism or move on
Love Tenerife! All these Islands are unique with their micro-climate! Rain in the North sun in south!
You’re right each island has multiple unique microclimates
Canary island for AMAZIGH PEOPLE not europeans
I don't mean to offend anyone but it doesn't appeal to me at all.
Lucky for the natives!
Making my way through all your videos.
Hello to fellow Brightonian 🇬🇧
North is where the Germans are. Never been there myself cause its colder there. But if you think driving is bad, dont try biking on those hills lol its wiiillllld
Im scottish i dont eant to go elsrwhere where theres scottish and english touridts?they are a total embarassment
Se parece demasiado a Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Así es boricua
It was the Muslims who created that island 🏝️
What a dump
Like everywhere else now sadly
thats africa bro
If you realy what to visit the wavai of europe you have to go to madeira island and porto santo is the caraíbas of europe , arquipélago da madeira
Madeira (at least Funchal) is way way way too touristy. And the smell of diesel in the air is worse than the large cities of peninsular Spain, like Madrid and Barcelona. Funchal is a very pretty city on beautiful island that has been destroyed by tourism IMHO.
I'm improving my portuguese to tour rural portugal as well as their islands. Un saludo
That is the real Tenerife there are people living in the south that have never seen this amazing part of the island they live in their own little bubble can't speak Spanish eat English food and know nothing about the Canarian culture
Tourists GO HOME.
Tenerife is part of Africa, not Spain, like all colonist they stole other people's land, they enslaved the original people, Spain also has a part of Morocco, and the UK stole a part of pain Gibraltar Ireland, and even the Falklands and other areas in the world. but its Ok they are Europeans they are entitled to do what they like
Going by history, Colonists improve a place
Immigrants are lazy opportunists from filthy 3rd world crap 🕳s
He can't react or like this truthful comment they can't hear our voices they wish to put us under their control but inshalah they will get what they deserves
How about videos without profanity so we can keep the videos family friendly and decent?
I don't understand why British has to go on holiday abroad they voted for Brexit they isolated them self from Europeans so they should stay on this "great" Island they live on and spend holiday in sunny Devon or Cornwall
weather looks dreadful. Are you sure this is Tenerife? 😂😂🤣🤣
Yes, the north side.. not where all the Brits go
I lived in the north of tenerife for 2 years, It's because of the vulcano. But if you drive 5 min you are in the sun most of the time. I miss tenerife ❤
Awesome man. Part 2 is gonna be 🔥
Yessir - It's gonna take me over a week to edit LOL but it's all worth it..uploading our video in Spanish today or tomorrow.. Take care homie
