    "This movie was bad" "Wooden-plank of a wife"??????? If you say so, on the other hand, I LOVED this movie, and it made me a Rebecca Pidgeon fan. Her "take", when "discovered", was worthy of an oscar winning actress like Bette Davis! Great job! Good movie. You'll watch it more than once.

    I loved this movie b/c of all the twists,the red herrings this movie portrays to point of driving the viewer crazy. DAVID 's writing is fantastic and I had the same feelings in House of Games which I think he also wrote.

    Best part is the switch (in Central Park) is impossible. And the filmmakers wants us to see that it's impossible. Worst part: the Pidgeon, of course. The filmmaker can't see that it's a cardboard coo-coo pigeon, not a real Pidgeon.

      How is it the best part?? I went back and re-watched the part where they wire him in central park and take his red book(process) for a closer look. But there was no switch! "Police" gave the book back and then all of a sudden its an empty book with empty pages?? Give me a break, this is not magic. Just because of that the movie is dumb! Ohhh and the acting is poor as well! Yes especially by Pidgeon.
      Would not recommend this movie to anyone!

    Fun movie, but as usual with these intricate plots, it makes no sense if you think about it. The bad guys' whole plan required Joe to make so many decisions that they couldn't possibly know he would make, like refusing to get paid for the camera so Jimmy could say he's a great guy and invite him to dinner, recognizing that Jimmy's sister was fake so he would call the fake FBI agent etc.
    Not only that, but the US Marshall's plan was even more ridiculous. Like they knew that Susan would have Joe buy a clover to put on his lapel so they could install a microphone there and then knew that he would recognize the need to run back for the book as he was going through security, and then they knew that he would sneak onto the ferry. Oh and apparently Jimmy was in on the Marshalls' plan too because how else would he know to wait for Joe on that ferry? It's just too much.

    • @jennymisteqq695

      wangson I thought she was supposed to act that way. I mistook her woodenness as exotic quirkiness. The entire movie was off-kilter, alien in a way. Her performance seem to fit right in. Like that weird character who spouted little philosophical tidbits. He was weird in the way she was.

    • @ML-dl1cp
      @ML-dl1cp 8 месяцев назад +1

      She's always terrible. I think there's a reason very few people beside her husband cast her. I hear she's quite good on the stage, and that may be true, but it's also true there are many stage actors who cannot successfully make the leap to the screen. Because it's consistent with her that she's just never entertaining. And absolutely unconvincing as a femme fatale. That's a funny thing about Mamet; he has put both his wives in his movies, and they're both absolutely without appeal. Lindsay Crouse is the other one. Watching her perform is like watching bread rise.

    • @wangson
      @wangson 8 месяцев назад

      @@ML-dl1cp "...unconvincing..." - absolutely. She doesn't handle dialogue well at all. Particularly in this film, she sounds like an alien trying to mimic a human being.

    • @hxhdfjifzirstc894
      @hxhdfjifzirstc894 4 месяца назад

      IMO it's not that her performance was horrible -- it's that the director chose to use stage dialogue (which I hate).
      I.e. everybody finishes their lines completely, before anyone else is allowed to talk. It's very unnatural, but necessary for a stage play (not really necessary for movies, though).

    • @wangson

    I see all the positive comments here and appreciate there are always diverse opinions. Mine is - one of the worst movies ever. Ebert (who probably liked it as he liked Mamet) had an "idiot plot" analysis - the plot could only continue if the main character acted like an idiot and did unbelievably stupid things. This movie made it to the end only because of the idiot plot. No one could be that dumb. But then again, just my opinion.
