@@ngmhg 100% true. The main issue is that taking a car to Zhuhai (even a dedicated racing car in a container) is a real storm of paperwork and big $$$$.
I'm and old school hotrodder at heart , built several cars over the years. I used to get pissed off at the cops when they would hassle me or my guys for being too low or too loud . I feel for these young dudes , but having a car basically confiscated for no reason , is way too much for me . Nice pic's and an enjoyable ride.

Larry Chen is one of the few car journalists I'm actually jealous of. This man gets to have some amazing experiences. Im glad he documents and shares it with the world.
Last time I was in Hong Kong was before the crackdown...2014 maybe? I stayed at the Sky City Marriott. I was there when all the exotic car owners met at the hotel for breakfast on Sunday morning. Lots of cool cars.
Its not about you driving fast or you break any laws. Dictators use any kind of possible means to show their powers, not protecting your rights of freedom nor at your benefits. This is the reality of HK nowadays and thanks for coming and appreciate you share this to the world. I am a blue R34 GTR owner, and not just was a car enthusiasts engineer but now becomes in cultural philosopher
Had no clue Pluto went thru that which is why his GTR is in japan. Ran into him in japan during TAS 2024. Thanks for capturing this story Larry and team!
This is the sort of stuff that units humanity. All around the world we have shared interests in things other than politics and religion. And it doesn't even take that much to find it. I feel for these folks living in a state where they can't even enjoy rolling art without fear of repercussions from authorities. Thanks LC for diving head first into this for the rest of us around the world watching. Best wishes to all the gear heads in Hong Kong.
Love these videos on the car cultures in other countries! Hong Kong's car restrictions are so much more hardcore than Singapore. Hats off to the car enthusiasts there!
Went to Hong Kong around 07-08,and the RR Phantom in facts there was 2 of them at the Peninsula, same color same spot.Watching this video bring back memories.Great video,Larry!More please!
Love the coverage of the HK car community. I've purchased 2 GTRs from HK and I thoroughly enjoyed you showing the rest of the world what too few have experienced.
Thank you for doing a piece of the car culture of Hong Kong, it is kinda an insight into what Hong Kong have turned into in the past few years. Government decisions with no reasoning or logic to it, limitless power to police enforcing the law to how they see fit, helplessness to most of its citizens from its government. Neon signs are disappearing at an alarming rate just like the freedom we had Hong Kong can now be summarised by my favourite line from this video; “in a police state like Hong Kong”
The mass majority of people in hk don't want Street racers there. This has nothing to do with authoritarian and China or democracy or whatever you're trying to insinuate.
@@papabear90 Because customising a car’s appearance would automatically make them street racers? They are going for car meets extremely peacefully but still bothered by the police. The JDM in these videos are factory and original, but the owners are still scared of being in trouble with the police really says a lot about how limitless the police are in Hong Kong. The fact that police can tow your car without any solid base, any knowledge in cars or even slight proof that you have modified it in anyway doesn’t make Hong Kong a police state? You think towing someone’s car because the brakes have been modified or having a body kit in any other non communist police state country. You want to know more about HK? Any police officer can check your ID, bag and or even body search because they think you are suspicious. Does this remind you of anything I mentioned about towing a car without proof mentioned above?
HK police have no shame with anything. After all, in 2019, they showed the world that they're willing to beat up Hong Kongers only for exercising their rights to protest.

Wao is amazing video again, truly amazing how culture react to car meets , here in the states the freedom that we have & some people take that for granted, with the whole takeover stuff wao.
Pre-Covid, I was going to HKG about 5-6 times a year since 2000. It was the best city on earth until then. I saw some of the most amazing cars there and it always broke my heart knowing that there was no place to really drive them to their full capability. We need to set up a rescue network to get some of the 25+ year cars imported to the USA so they don't end up junked.
The hk police is treating car enthusiasts like the triads. The idea that gangsters drive modified import cars has been portrayed constantly in hk dramas and movies, whereas wealthy "civil" business people will be portrayed as driving high end luxury and supercars.
I love the fact that despite their polite behavior the human spirit of civil disobedience is alive and well. Rules schmules. Stuff the rules. We ain’t hurting anything. We’ll do what we want! America used to have that spirit.
Depends on the area, significant residential development has occurred since 2006 and what was remote then may not always be remote anymore. If you hold a late night meet near residential communities the residents WILL call the cops.

HK used to have a crazy street racing scene...a long time back. Since 're-unification' it got much more restrictive.
HK is a densely populated city. Street racing is dangerous to the public and generates noise pollution to residential areas..
