    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:23 Practice *straight-line crosses in speed skating, maintaining forward momentum and stable body position.*
    02:35 Focus *on controlled landings when practicing crosses, emphasizing ankle control and maintaining proper skate edges.*
    04:22 When *crossing to the left, both skates should look left; when crossing right, both skates should look right. Perform the exercise slowly for better control.*
    05:29 Keep *pressure down on the ground, not on the sides, during straight-line cross exercises to maintain balance.*
    09:23 In *speed skating, the body weight should shift inside for optimal technique. Maintain alignment of ankle, knee, hip, and shoulder on the outside when crossing for better speed.*

    No doubt about it. These are one of the most important essentials! Importance of the cross step both from left to the right as well as from right to the left! On the asphalt rink, have to be good both-sided.

    This seems like a really useful drill for forcing yourself to shift the bodyweight onto one leg and shift between inside and outside edge. I've started a weekly technique practice session with my recreational skating club and have been wanting to do some drills to get everyone more used to using their bodyweight and edges so I think we will give this one a try this week :) most of the skaters in this club have the typical recreational skating style of landing the skate with both skates on the ground, never fully committing their bodyweight to one leg. If they can learn to skate on one leg and use the bodyweight transfer they will all get so much faster.

    I gave this exercise a try last weekend and it was pretty challenging! The cross to the right was quite difficult for me and I had trouble generating speed. I can see from rewatching this video that there were some key points in the movement that I was missing before too.

    • @ThePascalbriand
      @ThePascalbriand  3 года назад +2

      Yes quite many key point. It’s challenging for the balance... and for the habilité to keep the pressure in the skate even on some not comfortable moment.

    Always learning, thank you both. Looking fit for the W/C. In the last car park session Sara skipped in a cross over, if it's possible, could she string 3 or 4 together in a future freeskate to help break it down, seems like a good way to get clear of trouble.

      Yeah is there a reason for the different colours, or is that just style? Edit: same question for the wheel profile. (my active french isn't very good, so I replied in English, sorry)

      I used one skate of each that day... the green one are better for marathon with straight line... the blue when there are many corner ... just my opinion

    Good video as always!
    Which exercise would be the best for getting a longer push on a single leg?

    • @ThePascalbriand
      @ThePascalbriand  5 лет назад +1

      Justin Bi do you mean longer push in time or in distance? If you watch my video the target theory you will notice i don’t suggest a long push in distance (except if you can keep some grip)

    • @jubi91
      @jubi91 5 лет назад +1

      @@ThePascalbriand in time i guess, to keep the good speed without pushing quicker.

    • @ThePascalbriand
      @ThePascalbriand  5 лет назад

      Justin Bi if you push long in time on a correct (not short not long distance) I think it’s super efficient

    • @jubi91
      @jubi91 5 лет назад +2

      @@ThePascalbriand So I should probably practice my balance, to keep my body weight as long as possible over the pushing leg

    • @ThePascalbriand
      @ThePascalbriand  5 лет назад

      oui éventuellement i tu cherches à pousser sur le côté et avec toutes les roues...mais le but premier c'est quand même d'apprendre à s'incliner sur les carres externes en ligne droite et d'accepter de déplacer le poids du corps vers l'extérieur
