It not a mystery, Turnipseed did not see the three foot race car coming. Dean had just past a Detroit built sedan before he entered the intersection... Turnipseed only saw the other Sedan further back since Dean was passing it in the left lane and then re-entered the right lane as Turnipseed was already committed to making an early left turn to avoid body roll of his Ford doing a sharp left turn. That briefly placed him in the left lane with the Spider coming directly at him. Both drivers tried to make a quick right to avoid contact but the Spider slid sideways into the Ford because the weight of the Spider engine was in the rear and caused the Ford's left front head light and fender to impact the sliding Spider almost directly at the diver's side Door. Neither Driver pressed on the breaks. Based on the speed of both vehicles going 50 MPH Dean was slammed in the Head by 3000 lbs of Steel going 100 mph. He was rendered brain dead instantly on impact. The blow also broke his neck , but he had no chance of survival . His passenger did not have a seat belt so when the Spider tumbled air borne he fell out . Since this German mechanic was on the Right side of the Car he did not receive the bodily contact from the Ford that was a DEADLY BLOW.
