    I got an email about this kit and showed my daughter. Went to Guitar Center a few days later and they had one setup, double kick and all. My daughter about lost her mind. I'm going to have to buy her this set to upgrade her cheap Donner. She wanted to play drums, taught herself, and practices daily. I think this is well worth the cost for a serious drummer who can't have an acoustic set.

      @@FloeticEnigma Personally I'd go with Roland since Alesis tends to cut corners in places, But they're both probably great kits. It's just I've had bad experiences with Alesis, Like cymbals failing and stuff. (Since they're made in china) While it won't be as nice as a Roland kit, it'll be one heck of an upgrade from that donner lol.

      If price is the problem, Yamaha has some great stuff too that's in the price range of the Strata Prime. The DTX8, The thing about Roland and Yamaha is, You don't get as much as alesis, But most of the time it's higher quality stuff.

      @@FalconDrums the first kit I bought was a $900 Alesis, but the kick drum didn’t work right, so I took it back and ordered the Donner. So you saying that makes me want to rethink this…. I have time though. I have a few months before I do her upgrade. The one on display in our local Guitar Center has all the extras she wants, so she’s sold on it. I’m gonna do more research before I drop this much money. Thanks

  • @trommeltorsten
    @trommeltorsten 2 месяца назад +65

    I can't understand why people here are upset that the Alesis doesn't sound as good as a real Pearl next to it. If you want the same sounds from the Pearl as you can hear here, you need microphones, cables for the microphones, a mixer and various effects units in addition to the Pearl kit. And I think you'll have to spend more than 3,500 Dollars or Euros for that. So stop comparing apples with nuts. If you want to play acoustic drums, buy one. If you want to play an electronic drum kit, buy one. This constant comparing, the constant chatter that this or that sounds better or is better... what's the point?
    Tastes are different. Have fun in life, make good music, live and love your life! By the way, I think the Strata Prime is great and I'm going to buy one soon. Why? Because I like it, because I think it's good. Do it well guys!

    Absolutely incredible but why did they go from 8 individual outs for recording to 4??? I keep harping on this but its a dealbreaker for me. A MAJOR hinderance from a serious tracking / mixing perspective which i what i mainly use my SE for. All in ALL though this is a game changer for 95% of drummers that DO NOT need this capability.

    • @brussalis
      @brussalis 2 месяца назад +2

      I agree with Allen. 8 outs to 4 is a big loss. It took me some 4 mths since I bought my strike pro se kit to get 100% confident in using it for live work and the 8 outs have been crucial to that for better live mixing control and for my home recording. But ... I am going to say this here ... in the UK the customer support is shocking. Weeks for an email to be answered, my local drum shop trying to contact the rep via telephone went unanswered many times over. The inbrand "ticketing service" is poor at best. I've had two toms fail and the hi hat has always been a known issue (I watched Allens vids on this to get help by the way which was a big help 👍) and I think one the the hats edge trigger is now failing as well and no amount of tweaking triggers envelopes, sensitivity, logs etc is helping. To try and get this resolved with Alesis is like pulling teeth. They dont seem to want to know and to me at least, they appear to be deliberately running down the warranty period so they dont have to get involved and hence leave me on my own. Im not an Alesis hater by the way .. overall, I love the se pro, so much so that I actually own two kits and 3 racks and Ive bought 2 x extra 12" toms, one for each kit so I have my preferred 3 up and 2 down set up. One kit is in our studio, and one kit at my home with the third rack fully set up with tom clamps and cymbal holders, harnessed with the loom and mixer multicore, folded and living in my garage ready to put straight into my car to gig. So Alesis ... if you are watching ... why is your customer support so bad in the UK and WHY should I remain loyal and therefore consider an "upgrade" to this?? Strata Prime looks an interesting kit and the biggest way forward is the hats, there is a loss of a cymbal as well as the outputs, but now has a nice new module. Some you lose, some you win I guess. But, it makes me wonder if there will be a "special" version due out in the future with these missing extras added but thats for another time. So, where is the support and the loyalty to existing customers. By the way, one kit I bought end of last June '23 and the second bought September '23 so both kits are less than 12mths old and well within their "warranty" period. Its the younger kit that has the toms failure and the older kit with hi hat issues. Electronic build quality issues are most definately apparent but the hardware itself is holding up well. Anyway, I wonder if by some miracle an Alesis representative will see this and make contact at some point?? Im sure these guys watch the major reviews like this one. Videos Ive seen point to poor, thin and "not fit for purpose" wiring but surely it shouldn't be my job to open up and investigate this when there is clearly a warranty in place. Anyone else had similar issues on such a young kit?

    They both sounds great. The real kit on it's own sounds amazing. The combination of the close shell mics and the room are giving it a low end that just can't be matched.
    That being said, this will create issues when trying to drop that into a dense mix with other instruments. The alesis sounds more mix ready. With the ability to change the sounds individually this gives you a ton of control. The E-kit lacks that big low end resonance the real kit has. The alesis will probably drop into a dense mix easier, and quicker with a few tweaks compared to the real kit. The rewards from treating/mixing a real kit though are just unmatched, though.

    In the intro it was asked: will his playing transfer to the electronic kit. Judging the performance the drummer gave during the inro segment I can safely guess yes. The acoustic set is heavily gated, a lot of levels being manipulated in the control room. Dynamics were bland and the srum groove interrupted too often with stuttering fills that lent nothing to the original feel. A better intro would have the drummernplay the set with just over head mikes. His control and dynamics modified to match the microphone scenario. A miked drum today is like an ellectronic set. Gated, digitally mapped and modified. Easy transference so to the elctric set

    At this price, im not convinced. Cheaper kits ($1000 and less) work best with VSTs. My perspective is different. Im solely looking for an edrum kit to be a midi controller and a controller that will last 10+ years. Also, future compatibility is not a concern since USB and MIDI will still be around for a while. Sound expansion and updates wont be a problem on pc either (in general).
    Would I take it as a gift, absolutely lol! Would I recommend it for someone looking to just setup and play out of the box, more than likely yes. As for me its a no, at this price.

      I have a crimson 2 and I can tell you it's amazing as a midi controller, but there's always the problem with latency. I'm curious to ask why you think it wouldn't work better as a controller being the hardware is newer?

    • @LegendaryMike
      @LegendaryMike 2 месяца назад

      @@brunovanhoose6854 99% of the time latency is caused by an issue with the PC. It could be that the processor is underpowered, settings are misconfigured (more than likely the issue), software is unoptimized, none of those options etc...
      I don't think the newer hardware would perform any better or worse as a controller. My point is that I couldn't justify spending $3500 on a kit just to use as a controller when there are cheaper and better options that can do the same thing.

A £750 pearl export from the 90s would blow it away. But theyre talked about and promoted as if theyre the hottest thing. Problem with that is most thrashers believe it. Not saying they couldnt sound great but the change from accoustinc style playing to rigid ekit playing is always very clear. Th toms just sound wee, complete crap. But Im not a positive thinker like most people. The pearl though. Yeah nice.
