    Nice looking garden and a nice lot beside you.It would be great to have some shade trees and landscaping. That would sure keep you busy for a long time. Love to garden too.

      The inside yard is almost finished. The lot is an ongoing project. While my first mango tree is growing good, it might be a few years before we get some good shade from it. Those Talisay seeds might just come in handy as they grow really fast!

    Indian almond fruits, the green ones are young fruit. Plant the brownish ones that has fallen in the ground.

    I like your colors scheme on the exterior - that redish/yellow is the bomb and I really like your wall. Did you have that house built? You may have said in a previous video, sorry, I've not watched all of them yet. Anyway, that was the good news, the green on the inside is worth changing, but you probably don't even notice it anymore.

    • @livinginthepacific
      @livinginthepacific  8 лет назад

      We built this house over time, and finished it when we arrived to stay. The exterior is an awful peach color that has faded to beige and the red is Spanish Red. The inside does not look good in photos but it is a sage green and coordinates with furniture, rugs, and draperies. Not going back to harvest yellow or will we do Filipino blues or oranges, sorry. Hi. I am really enjoying looking at your vlogs. The way you apply your knowledge and practical approach to everything and the happy people around you is a joy to watch and learn from. How did you get your grass started....what is the grass type (name) and did you start from seeding or sodding? Also, how do you control the ants indoors? Lastly, do you have a lot of gecko's running around indoors like most places or have you figured out a way to control them? I hope you don't mind answering questions, brief is OK. Thx.

    • @livinginthepacific
      @livinginthepacific  8 лет назад +1

      My grass is a hybrid Bermuda, which is readily available here in the Philippine. Some larger nurseries in the bigger cities may carry sod. I just pilfered some small pieces from around town and basically plugged my yard to get it started, then I began pilfering from myself. It took about 1 year to get a good lawn going. Controlling ants is always a problem. We throw our food scraps in the neighbor's yard and they all stay over there... jk - lol. Easiest way is to keep food securely stored in good containers (Rubbermaid or Tupperware) and never leave food out overnight. Watch your crumbs so to speak. We have a few small geckos in the house... that the cats have not tortured yet (they are always on the lookout though!). I welcome a gecko or three as they eats smaller insects like spiders, gnats, mosquitoes and flies. Our house is closed up with aircon so we don't have much of an insect or gecko problem.

    My dad's activity outside of work in the Philippines was gardening. He hanged rows of orchids (purple, white, and pink) on all four sides of our concrete fence. One day, yours truly (age 5) played with the flowers picking them and with each petal, I said "he loves me, he loves me not." Too late when everybody realized what I did with the orchids hanging around. The ground was littered with orchids. Naturally, everyone was telling me my dad would beat me up for what I did, but when he came home that afternoon, everyone told him what happened. He didn't spank me, but smiled. I never did it again! Ha ha ha!

    I am so jealous - beautiful house, with adjacent lot for garden, all within view of the sea! Our relatives are in Manila, Sto. Thomas, and Lucena - so we will likely build on Luzon somewhere - but if I could do as I pleased, I might be there on Samar.....

      Retired in Samar I agree completely! We are currently looking at 3 possibilities: 1.) Summit Point Golf & Country Club Residences (see my video "Our Philippine Dream Home"); 2.) Camella Homes Quezon which is near Lucena City (where Hazel's sister and children live) - and that is very affordable and also a short drive to the beach and seaport; 3.) South Waters Marina & Country Club - which is my personal favorite - lots of boats, close to the beach, also in Lucena - but it was just purchased by Sta. Lucia and has not been developed yet. Unless it is ready for house & lot by 2018, it will be too late for us.

      Lol you have a bunch of kittens there. When I left my home we had 10 dogs. I don't know what happened to them. My dad passed away my house standing alone but someday I want to retire like you. My memory of my home sweet home in the mountains of Panay. We have more space and land in my town no squatters in the neighborhood. Because of the proximity of Panay to Samar we were also affected by Yolanda but not as bad as Samar and Leyte. I'm glad you enjoy your retirement there.

    Hopefully you found another vet and got mommy cat fixed after the kittens were bigger .. you don't want to have to keep dealing with kittens that are hard to find good homes for ; but I do hope you found good homes for these kittens . Mommy cat is so beautiful . That little bit of greenery with the grass looks si beautiful , don't get rid of it . There's got to be an easier way to trim it , though .

    • @livinginthepacific
      @livinginthepacific  5 лет назад

      Yes, we eventually got her fixed and we found a home for the entire family... a relative's house out on their farm... a Purrrrfect place for them! And, there is no easier way to cut my grass. I tried with a string trimmer, but it tears up the grass too much. So... hand trimming it will be! (I have ways of making the grassy area shrink a little bit.)

      The only fruits and veggies that do well in the Philippines are typically those found at the local markets. Why trim everything? There's a need to trim some trees once every few years. Let them grow, they are supposed to be there. Reminds me of the dumb American tradition of constantly trimming your grass, totally pointless.

    • @livinginthepacific
      @livinginthepacific  3 года назад

      Because the trees hang out over the street. We weren't supposed to plant anything in the easement to begin with! Don't cut the grass and you will learn to live with mosquitos, chiggars, ticks, lice, and all kinds of other nasty critters! Apparently, you're not a Dumb American!

    • @infiltr80r

      @@livinginthepacific Yes, nature is really terrible. Better just have concrete everywhere. Mosquitoes come from sitting water ponds, not grass. Pretty much all mosquitoes in the Philippines come from human made water containers. So your trimming of trees or grass does nothing to help it.
