    There is a trailer for the first Space Marine 40k game that shows the step by step process of armoring up an Astartes, showing each armor piece and the internal components being attached.

    You point out the movement, how they never shoot like soldiers with body armour today would, the pauldrons reduce the area the marine is taking fire from and is covering his lower head up till his elbow.(As silly as the idea started out there are reasons to have large pauldrons, especially because it's ablative armour and easily replacable without the entire suit needing refit) The old style of shooting is better for an already large person without the need of stocks because the armour does deal with recoil and targeting. And short barrel weapons like what astartes carry. Look at older marks of armour, they look more like knight armour and unlike primaris the chest and lower body are normal.

    Another recommendation would be looking at the standard guard around

      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +1

      True! Im thinking terminators next then the guard and otger 40k armour, then halo, fall out and the expanse mcrn Goliath armour

    My personal favorite armor set would be the MK3 iron pattern body armor with a mk2 crusade pattern helmet with its slit visor and mk4 Maximus pattern leg armor, providing the best realistic armor design as well as offer the most realistic forms of protection

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад

      Yeah that would be pretty good. The limited curves definitely make it easier to produce and the slit visor crusade helmets stay wide around the jaw line. Some patterns with the vox go too narrow at the mouth

    This was interesting, and I'm DEFINTIELY down to hear your opinion on terminator armour, most people write it off.

      Thats cool! Video on the terminators will be coming soon! I actually think if you accept they are not doing tight room clearing they are more useful and can replace the technical on a humvee.

    Also as a point of reference if you spot or see how space marines shooting positions are they tend to lean forwards at a side angle the image of an imperial fist is an excellente of how a space marines armor and bolter is supposed to work and as to why their bolters don’t tend to have a stock, plus since the armors powered and is meant to not only handle the recoil as well as accuracy then having a stock is practically pointless and useless.

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +2

      Very true! Although I do like how on some Primaris weapons (plasma rifle if i remember correctly) they have the mini stock that goes against the poldron, or the heavy weapons that have an arm brace.

    There's different marks of power armor, mate. Captain Titus wears mk.x tacticus pattern power armor, while in astartes, they wear mk.vii aquila pattern power armor.

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +1

      Oh i know, I might go through them in a future video, but i realised its a 10 minute video on its own to go through the power armour features from crusade days to m41 primaris and I thought id try keep it semi 40k beginner friendly.

    if you plan to make a very multi hit capable armor you could go with ar600 steel wrapped in kevlar or polyurea to counter spalling, since it's extremely multi hit capable against small arms and standard issue rifle rounds and has less backface deformation.

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +1

      Yeah its a good idea, ive mainly thought about integrating a piece into the chest plate. My only issue with using more steel plate is from the manufacturing point of view. I can make the composite armour in many shapes with virtually no tooling

    • @TimothyMark7
      @TimothyMark7 Месяц назад

      @@MattExo-Dynamics that is true, but you could make or use 8x10 steel plates for shoulder and groin and even thigh armor so that could work tho it would be roughly 40lbs if you use torso armor with side armor.

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +1

      Good in general, bit of the aame problem as space maine for size but then from what i know they are largely in a heavy weapon support role so it works. I intend on doing a video on those also!

    The armor you’re currently seeing is the new MK X primaris pattern armor

    Thanks for doing a 40K video on their armor, as a massive armor and weapons enthusiast it’s nice to know or get a second opinion or view point on a given subject since, it’s easy to fall into a personal bias when it comes to something, such as halo the halo Spartan armor where it looks good and it actually moves pretty decently, the problem stems from the massive gaping holes in the armor which is meant to help with flexibility and mobility but unfortunately it leaves a lot of exposed and vulnerable areas such as the lower stomach as well the exposed neck area

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад

      Thank you! Yeah i intend on going through a lot of different armour from sci fi settings. I agree with you on the spartan armour great mobility but the plate is missing from the most vulnerable areas - like inside of the thigh where the massive artery is. I know the undersuit is ment to be a titanium weave (or something like) but then why bother with so many plates - apart from aesthetics for the game of course

    My brother in Emperor if you can do another breakdown, especially with the older marks of power armor (Arbitor Ian's vid would be the best video to look up) it would be great to hear your thoughts on the development process and design principles of the mks and how it compares to your own!

    I wonder what do you think of the mehler exom heavy rig suit?
    since it's the worlds first heavy armor rig that uses a passive exoskeleton

    • @MattExo-Dynamics
      @MattExo-Dynamics  Месяц назад +1

      I havent seen a massive amount about it, but i think it looks good in general my only wonder is if theyve made it with limited imagination to appease current potential users. When ive spoke to funding programs and that type of thing, regardless of the program theres typically people at the first point of contact who frankly are employees with no imagination or ambition. So if you present to them that you are putting an exo-skeleton under regular soft armour that is much more palatable to them, than saying you have a fully working unstoppable suit of astertes/halo/fall out armour.

    • @TimothyMark7
      @TimothyMark7 Месяц назад

      @@MattExo-Dynamics well strangely enough it was a european design, and started as giving bomb suits passive exoskeletons to help reduce the weight and strain of the user, then mehler joined in and said if it was a huge success for giving bomb suits passive exoskeletons then giving those hard armor would work well hence the creation of the exom heavy rig suit, which GIGN commissioned since they tend to use a lot of heavy armor rigs compared to most swat teams, so perhaps this is a huge step forward for powered armor or at least very multi hit capable heavy armor.

    One thing that Space marine’s can’t do that I’ve always noticed is bend there knees past 90 degrees. The rear leg armor comes up high enough that past that point, it would hit the leg itself if it wasn’t encased in armor. Perhaps space marines don’t have to kneel, but considering how often they do for prayer or reverence, it seems like a slight oversight to not have the armor on the rear leg articulate
