As a master Wizard in the [Arts of Illusion], Gale's illusory projection of him exploding was of such a high spell save DC, that even the Elder Brain thought it was real, and died along with all the tadpoles and mind flayers as a result.

I think there's a plot hole here - Gale teleported the party away who had the artifact, so he should've been instantly dominated and transformed by the netherbrain.

It's the Absolute showing you the image of Gortash so my head cannon is that he's making it portray him better looking. But god, he looks like a guy in his late 40s who hangs out at Hot Topic hitting on the cashiers. I can only assume there was a character redesign or he looks very like whoever designed him.

Considering that it seems you originally went for the evil ending with him when discussing the crown, I like to imagine that the Gale that went up there and sacrificed himself was the remaining good in him.
💯Agree, even though it wasn't my intention to turn him evil, only for him to stand up for himself against Mystra. Looking back I should have realised this would have taken him down an evil path but I still feel this is a satisfying ending for this particular character's arc.

I saw the title of this video and though that there was a bit after he dies to blowing himself up where Mystra brings him back to life after what he did.
Funnily enough, Gale also has this weird bug for me where if I talk to Elminster for the first time without Gale in my party, Elminster will give me dialogue asking if I know Gale but then when the camera pans to my character, guess who is always standing right next to me? Gale, for some weird reason or another. I have no clue what that bug is about and the buginess of this wizard is something I think about often.

Had a similar issue with the ending. I made karlach a mindflayer and for some reason the game thought my paladin had turned into one. Even got the steam achivement for the mindflayer ending. Great game but act 3 is beyond bugged it seems
I believe I had the exact same bug, I got the end scene where I spoke to the Mind flayer Karlach, but before that the game thought that I was the mind flayer, and I agree it is a great game but I don't think just act 3 is beyond bugged it's the whole game.
I love the game so much and they are working on patches but like Skyrim with so much content there is still many things that are broken.

My exact thoughts as well, I'm happy that I wasn't the only one to experience this bug so it should be fixed quicker, but also annoyed that it was an issue in the first place and that others were also experiencing it.

Wait LMAO in my playthrough HE wanted to die SO badly. Like I needed to tell him 3 times to STFU and climb with me to the crown.
It's crazy how a couple of minor decisions can lead you down a completely different path and give an alternative ending.
Besides his bugged return its rather interesting the story they wrote for him. He either dies at the end of act 2 preventing everything from ever happening saving the most people and preventing any attack or Mind Flayer transforms, dies in act 3 in an explosion, dies in act 3 if you are like "no Gale no". Or ascends and will be evil and keep his ego growing.
Actually oddly if he dies in act 2 when he wants to explode to end everything then and there, it’s the worst thing to do as you get an end screen that says that all the people which had Mind Flayer Tadpoles in their head turned and became mind flayers anyway, which I don’t think there’s an explanation as to why him exploding in act 2 or 3 are different.

That's weird then, I wonder why the act 2 explosion doesn't kill all the tadpoles but the act 3 one does, I forgot that the act 2 explosion is supposed to be a "bad" ending but then why does doing the same thing work later, hah.
@@Goremize I’ve read theories about it and many are certainly plausible I don’t think there’s been a definitive answer to it yet, maybe the netherstones had to belong to one person and that’s why it worked, but that still wouldn’t answer it, as Gale teleports you safely away. I don’t know whether this is a plot hole or we’re just missing something obvious.

The brain did not give the order for the tadpoles to cease.
In both cases i'm wondering if that means that a bunch of people just has a dead, rotting worm in their skulls and what fabulous terminal illnesses that could spawn xd

well since the magic protecting it died, and you have shadowheart, which is a level 12 cleric, she could (and probably would) fix this issue after a long rest. Other peoples ? Well they should find a good healer, and fast.

I think this was fixed in one of the first patches because I did not get this issue. I did however attempt to take the tadpole from the emperor and have orpheos make my main a mindflayer resulting in my character instantly reverting to normal. Ya act 3 (especially the ending) has issues. I also hit a softlock in act 2 by killing the pixie then traveling back to the grove resulting in permanently losing the buff that allows going near moonrise (you dont get the bell in this scenario)

Gale had a habit of just showing up in cutscenes talking about him for us too. He was at camp when we met Elminster, who asked "Do you guys fw gale?" and Gale is just *there*.

I am so glad this is an option to beat the game.I just don't have the patience to do a 43 hour boss fight with numerous phases and mechanics. I think they put an "I win" button for folks like me lol.
It's certainly an quick way to beat the boss and see the endings you got. Fighting the end boss over and over again can get tiresome.

Act 3 was so buggy, the finale caught my off guard with how fucked it was and kind of took me out of the experience
The whole game was buggy for me and at Act 3 I just took it in stride as I was done with the constant issues and I agree, with the ending I found it rather disappointing, they spoke about how there's 17,000 endings which I doubt but could be true, but as you say it took me out of the experience when the game just ended with no epilogues for anyone so we don't know what the consequences our actions hold. So how can there be 17,000 endings if we can't really see them. This game still feels in early access and we're the beta testers.
why the hell is your gale so evil? Mine practically begged me to blow himself up and was happy that the crown was lost.
I believe it was because I convinced him to after the crown, not realising that it might make him turn evil, I just wanted him to stand up to Mystra.
He came, he pondered his orb, he exploded. And even saw himself off.

I always level up my Charisma/Persuasion in these sort of games for this very reason. However, I chose Diplomat as a background in Starfield thinking my persuasion skills would make convincing people far easier and yet it hasn't had that effect. It normally works but not always

I did this with Gale, but didn't get an ending anything like this. Gale was standing there after it was all over as if he never blew himself up. Everything thanked my Tav for becoming a Mindflayer and saving everyone, even though I never did any such thing. I refused the tadpole. What a broken bugged ending of a game. 😞
Yeah it’s an unfortunate that a lot of these issues are still prevalent months after release, it certainly stunts your enjoyment of the game, as you’ve clearly experienced there’s no joy or contentment with finishing the game since it’s not the ending you wanted nor should have gotten.
