can we take a moment to appreciate the visual storytelling and intention put into every single scene? Megan starts alone, climbing her way through the belly of the beast of her depression, only to realize once she’s out that the snake’s still with her. she fights with it but it looms larger than ever behind her while she performs. visually it’s also kind of reminiscent of Eve being tricked by the serpent. but when she’s not fighting her personal demons, shes all by herself in a room full of snakes (untrustworthy people) while black snake scales (her depression) creep along the walls slowly closing in on her. then shes nude, vulnerable, and isolated in a glass case shedding her skin (something snakes like to do in private) while onlookers take photos. shes had to go through processing her grief and trauma while the entire world is watching and commenting on it. and that makes her own fangs come out, taking her back to that dark place, understandably so. still, she dances and performs in the spotlight anyway, while even the snakes watching her are drowning in snakes themselves. but then for the first time in the video she’s surrounded by others who are dancing along with her. perhaps that symbolizes finding community even while being in a toxic environment. because immediately after, theyre in a different space dancing around a giant coil of dust. it took me a minute to consider that the spiral could be the ashes of the giant snake that accompanied her, and they’re all literally dancing on its grave. and thats where it becomes a perfect bookend for the beginning of the video. she starts off scared, looking like shes being born. she’s unsafe, alone, burdened by the snake, surrounded by greenery, soaking wet with rain (the green possibly representing money and/or drugs. the rain, tears) but in the end the weather is stable. the snake is dead and her tears are dry. she is confident and she is dancing victoriously with others who are in sync with her in a clearer and brighter desert. she may not have the resources she did before, but she’s certainly in better company. unfortunately but realistically, the snake isn’t gone altogether. even though she’s in a good place, it still appears after she remembers everything she’s been through (the flashing scenes at the end of the dance) and when she’s alone again. but the snake is smaller than she is now and theyre no longer in conflict. and because everything changes (we must keep shedding our past over and over), the eggs at the very end remind us that even if the snake crops back up again, this phase will give rise to something else too, hopefully something better. we dont know whats about to hatch; it could be another snake, it could be a phoenix, it could be whatever you imagine it to be. and thats the point, the egg is hope and possibility! like what a delicious way to approach the unknown and close out the video, in stark contrast with the pain and fear of the unknown we started with. its got such a clean visual narrative that links up perfectly with the lyrical narrative. its a really fascinating way to represent her experience. snakes symbolizing being lured and betrayed by partners and friends, disingenuous record labels and industry pressure, criticism from the public, and her own depression. but they also use it to symbolize the grieving process and rebirth too! a visual metaphor where snakes can represent at least *six* different things within the same work and often simultaneously? impressive, honestly. like this feels more like a self portrait than a music video. this is literally a work of art, it’s brilliant! if this is any indication of what’s to come I’m excited as hell EDIT: thank you all for such kind and lovely comments!!♥ I didnt think anyone would actually read this wall of text, so it means a lot that you did and that it resonated w so many people, but I cant take all the credit! @AdrianXpression made connections I hadn’t thought of that inspired me to analyze Cobra deeply in his video ruclips.net/video/ejRMG5O6ztY/видео.htmlsi=xdoJevNx6sLwWug4 I def recommend his channel!

I went through a phase where I was drinking a lot because of depression Megan. I was falling into alcoholism. I wanted to change my habits so I prioritized myself for like a week where I just focused on nothing but self love. Exercise, good diet, microdosing shrooms, marijuana, consuming media that feels good and thought provoking in a healthy way, etc. I did this when I felt a little lost in alcoholism and it really helped me snap out of it and change my habits. I hope you can work through whatever is weighing on your heart

can we take a moment to appreciate the visual storytelling and intention put into every single scene?
Megan starts alone, climbing her way through the belly of the beast of her depression, only to realize once she’s out that the snake’s still with her. she fights with it but it looms larger than ever behind her while she performs. visually it’s also kind of reminiscent of Eve being tricked by the serpent.
but when she’s not fighting her personal demons, shes all by herself in a room full of snakes (untrustworthy people) while black snake scales (her depression) creep along the walls slowly closing in on her.
then shes nude, vulnerable, and isolated in a glass case shedding her skin (something snakes like to do in private) while onlookers take photos. shes had to go through processing her grief and trauma while the entire world is watching and commenting on it. and that makes her own fangs come out, taking her back to that dark place, understandably so.
still, she dances and performs in the spotlight anyway, while even the snakes watching her are drowning in snakes themselves.
but then for the first time in the video she’s surrounded by others who are dancing along with her. perhaps that symbolizes finding community even while being in a toxic environment.
because immediately after, theyre in a different space dancing around a giant coil of dust. it took me a minute to consider that the spiral could be the ashes of the giant snake that accompanied her, and they’re all literally dancing on its grave.
and thats where it becomes a perfect bookend for the beginning of the video. she starts off scared, looking like shes being born. she’s unsafe, alone, burdened by the snake, surrounded by greenery, soaking wet with rain (the green possibly representing money and/or drugs. the rain, tears)
but in the end the weather is stable. the snake is dead and her tears are dry. she is confident and she is dancing victoriously with others who are in sync with her in a clearer and brighter desert. she may not have the resources she did before, but she’s certainly in better company.
unfortunately but realistically, the snake isn’t gone altogether. even though she’s in a good place, it still appears after she remembers everything she’s been through (the flashing scenes at the end of the dance) and when she’s alone again. but the snake is smaller than she is now and theyre no longer in conflict.
and because everything changes (we must keep shedding our past over and over), the eggs at the very end remind us that even if the snake crops back up again, this phase will give rise to something else too, hopefully something better. we dont know whats about to hatch; it could be another snake, it could be a phoenix, it could be whatever you imagine it to be. and thats the point, the egg is hope and possibility! like what a delicious way to approach the unknown and close out the video, in stark contrast with the pain and fear of the unknown we started with.
its got such a clean visual narrative that links up perfectly with the lyrical narrative. its a really fascinating way to represent her experience. snakes symbolizing being lured and betrayed by partners and friends, disingenuous record labels and industry pressure, criticism from the public, and her own depression. but they also use it to symbolize the grieving process and rebirth too! a visual metaphor where snakes can represent at least *six* different things within the same work and often simultaneously? impressive, honestly.
like this feels more like a self portrait than a music video. this is literally a work of art, it’s brilliant! if this is any indication of what’s to come I’m excited as hell

I went through a phase where I was drinking a lot because of depression Megan. I was falling into alcoholism. I wanted to change my habits so I prioritized myself for like a week where I just focused on nothing but self love. Exercise, good diet, microdosing shrooms, marijuana, consuming media that feels good and thought provoking in a healthy way, etc. I did this when I felt a little lost in alcoholism and it really helped me snap out of it and change my habits. I hope you can work through whatever is weighing on your heart
