Mark and Taeyong are SM's best rappers hands down with Kai, Ten, and Lucas having skill at this as well. Kai and Taemin have always expressed a desire to debut in a group together. As two of the top dancers in all of kpop, it makes sense for them to be here. Baekhyun sang the Korean national anthem twice at the 2018 Winter Olympics. He is known as The Nation's Pick. His strong vocals anchor this group. The other 4 members are top performers in their groups as well. With a strong Rap line to compliment everything else this is a dream team.
It is safe to say that SuperM consists of SM’s best performers. I gotta say that SM is full of talented, i mean damn talented artists but i think for this group, SM picked the member who is an all-rounder not only good in one aspect but a can-do-it-all maybe that’s why superM’s stage undeniably grabbed your attention. They are the performance group. It was said before this group was formed, that the best dancers in SM was: SHINee's Taemin, EXO's Kai, NCT's Ten and Taeyong (I have to put in here that Jisung has become a super dancer too. So I don't get attacked.) Also this was of the male dancers in sm. But you need those vocals in a group right? There you have baek, one of sm's best. Mark's and Taeyongs rap duo is pretty legendary in nct right? So we gotta have Mark too. He's good at dance as well, so that's a win-win situation. What about Lucas? He is getting so well known already. He debuted last year in NCT U first. And this year in WayV! Another amazing visual and growing too becomes a good dancer as well. Yeah, they chose the best of the best for this group. By Mr. SM himself. Also it is Amazing how good baek is at dancing. I'm sure he and Lucas are working hard to keep up. more than half of the members in superM are main dancers in their original groups so yeah...their stage performance are too strong that u sometime not paying much attention to the vicals bcs ur eyes got hypnotized by their stage presences.but they did sing well also and Baekhyun is one of the main vocal in exo while Taemin is in Shinee 😊

SuperM isn't composed of the members who are the best singers in their respective groups per say although the group has Baekhyun one of the main vocalists in EXO (and he is an amazing vocalist!). Majority of the members are the main dancers in their own groups and all of them are just captivating performers. So I guess you can say SuperM is a performance focused group.
true, I might add that SMs thinking was probably that they would select MAIN dancers because to BE main dancers they must be ABLE to sing...while dancing. so all of them including the rappers have decent even good vocals. It's just that all these performers come from groups with such deep talent pools that they didn't have much call to fully develop and/or display their own vocal prowess

You should watch or react to SBS/Kokowa TV presentation of SuperM The Beginning. But anyway, in that presentation, Capitol Records started it all (I think early last year) knowing that kpop music is now growing more and more globally, so they searched for a Korean Music company as their partner and had chosen SM Ent. having known for their artists' great talents and track records. So they put up a new group that will cater to international fans esp. in U.S. with members from the existing group with great popularity and ofc with outstanding talents. Mostly are rappers and dancers(Mark, Taeyong, Lucas, Ten & Kai) and vocalist(Taemin; also a great dancer & Baekhyun, but amazingly can catch up with them in terms of dancing). Each SuperM members are still with their own group, they are not leaving their group(this is why each fandom hates SM for overworking the boys). Currently EXO is doing Exoplanet #5 concert tour in Asia and will be doing a comeback this Nov. 27 and recently WayV had released their new MV "Moonwalk" Sorry for the long rant, just giving you a hindsight.
