So pretty much what LCA said. I did more of a study than a review on my Hercules. Purchased and pitched in Aug 2019. I left this tent up for 14 months and never had a leak. I like my older version better with the stove jack low and between 2 of the doors, as this allows more open area since the stove can be pushed back farther. A welding matt clipped to the lower seam of the jack works great and I just use 2 45 deg pipe sections. I would never try to fit 8 people in this tent ! While it is spacious I have found it to be very comfortable with two cots. This leaves room for the stove, gear, wood, and my two hundred pound plus dogs. But I guess it all depends on how you're using it. It could also use some additional lower vents in my opinion. Just as we started our second winter with the tent pitched we got a snow storm of about 8" which after being left up for fourteen months did snap 3 poles and tore the fly. All in all I would say this is an awesome tent & was worth the money. Had I tarped it in the summer, it would not have suffered the UV degradation that caused the damage. A note on the Winnerwell stove, I also have that stove and love it ! I did make some legs extensions with 1" square tube to raise it up about a foot which is so much better. You pretty much have to get your head down 12" from the floor to see inside otherwise. We average about 30" of rain & 70" snow here in NE Wa. state.
That’s good to know, real life durability testing! Yeah I only like considering tents where I will be on a chair or a cot, being on the ground isn’t for me.
You did an excellent job with this review - moved from one point to the next in a very professional manner. Great job! I have been looking for a new tent for a while - and I believe this is the one for me.
This tent is top notch! We absolutely love it. It's our favorite tent in our fleet! I'd recommend ordering it now. They are back ordered but if you order now you should get it in time.
Hey Samantha, have you ever tested or just camped in an RBM hot tent? It's double-walled, so no condensation, and there's an insulated floor that keeps your feet toasty warm when your boots are off. These tents have plenty of ventilation and once the stove is blazing, they are extremely WARM inside; especially when the snow and cold winds are blowing outside. I realize this particular review is 4 years old, so you may have already experienced RBM tents. If you HAVE camped with an RBM hot tent, please let me (us) know what you thought. I love your videos, by the way. They're informative and so much fun! :)
Hello and great videos. What is your good weather go to tent. Looking for a tent for all season North Carolina. Probably only a couple times a year. Thanks for your opinions.
I use the Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 as my primary car camping tent, but I don't think they make it anymore. Recently I tried the Coleman Instant Cabin Tent 6 and really liked it. Here is the link from that video if you want to check it out! ruclips.net/video/ltsVRUHQDQg/видео.html
Great video! I'm looking to upgrade my winter tent and this is on my list. I looked them up but they don't say, are the seams taped or do you have to tape them yourself? Also, have you hiked any of the North Country Trail?
Yes these tents are seam taped. I've used it in heavy rain with zero leakage. I've hiked the pictured rocks section of the north country trail earlier this fall.
Hello and thank you for this video. I would like a clarification on how to set up this tent. Is the insertion of the poles end in the pins is done gradualy or you insert all pôle and then you insert the pôle end in the pin? And at what stage should we raise the tent? I just tried to mount mine for the first time and broke a pole. thank you very much
I put the poles all the way in and slowly raise it up. You need two people. If you don't have a second person use a rope tied around the center over a tree limb to help you raise it.
@Lone Crow Adventures are there any issues concerning the length of the Exped MegaMat 10 and the room for up to three people + stove, & gear in the Hercules?
With two exped mega mats long extra wides (lxw) there is no room for another mat. If you went with smaller mats like 22" mats you would be fine for three people but not with the 2 30" wide megamats.
Wow. I gotta say that you did one of the BEST tent reviews Ive ever seen. Was trying to decide between this and the Luxe Megahorn XL. Went with the XL becuase pics of this didnt look like it would hold 4 cots and a woodstove. And......i like the fact that i can set up a teepee by myself pretty easy. Great video and im now subscribing 👍
I agree. The megahorn looks roomier and I think this was a smart choice on your part. I've tried two cots with the wood stove in the Luxe and it feels cramped due to the angel of the sidewalls. Might want to invest in low profile cots!
CONT ---- Please note , I worry about a hot spark out of the stove pipe - it could fall onto side of the tent (?) So I am using a long pipe. Plus I am very srltive of the type of firewood. ( No popping sparks sparks allowed to jump about ) My Native tipi --- had a small open fire going in the metal pan--- and a student threw some used paper towels on the fire = they flared up , rose on hot air , and went out the smoke flap hole , falling down on the slope of the tipi wall ! Never, EVER . burn trash paper, etc. in a tipi or a campfire . BUT it did.not create fire ( plus I always have a fire bottle in tipi and a bucket of water outside door for safety. ) Hmmm, and I never packed a parachute wrong in my Navy job. Thanks ,keep up the great reviews Mtn Mel & Molly Blue - - Deweese.
Hello my friend, can you recommend a smaller tent for winter car camping that has enough room to use a buddy heater? Thanks. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Sure, any 4P tent with a double wall would be fine. You want the double wall for condensation control and ventilation. Also get a carbon monoxide detector if using a buddy heater.
EXCELLENT - Exact info ! Like YOUR style of reviewing . Good safety tips, etc. Thank You . I have used many types of " shelters " , tents, tipis, etc :in my 50 + yrs survival training , Arctic to Amazon . I like this tents stand up room , as I will be #80 next yr. Ha. ( But not a normal senior. NO golf. NO TV football. I still fly my Powered Para - Glider ! And the American flag, ha. He) I also believe in adding the second pipe for the double wall ! AMEN. I have had reg, Native tipis at my survival camp for yrs. First tipi I got was in 1980, and had it behind the Navy Barracks. The smoke flaps, work , ⁹ etc are. beautiful , but handling , hauling 17 poles are UGH for an old Swabbie . A couple yrs ago I purchased a " one pole "system / special " Swedish tipi style tent that was tested in the Arctic .It can have an " open fire " ( good top venting. ) Or a stove is ok. But it was costly at $2, 800 + Yes, I added that DOUBLE WALL pipe idea - as I could imagine the wind blowing and the material whipping , touching the HOT pipe ! As of this date no problems, ok. And yes I can also so imagine the " pole tubes " filling up with dirt,, etc.. would be a problem. ( I can't believe some foolish camper placing the hot stove over the floor material, real OOPS !) I will order the " Hercules " asap . I will test it at 11,000 ft on the our Grand Mesa. I'm sure my Aussie pup " Molly Blue " will love it . Sincerely " Bravo Zulu " to you. I agree, the double wall pipe makes me feel safer. I'm surprised how many people skip this item. Sure it's an extra $60 but isn't your life (and gear) worth $60?
I rented from an outfitter a hot tent tipi but it was really smoky smelling and pipe fitting were lose. So as a general questions, was my experience just old bad equipment or in general are hot tents a smoky camping / outfitting experience? I dont mind some, but this was like annoying bad! Thanks and great video tent review.
Our hot tent has the "hot tent smell" lol which is a pleasant smell we like. Sort of smells like a campfire. Pipe fittings should not be loose though. The tent you rented might have been more smokey smelling because so many people don't know how to use the damper properly, the the tent was probably flooded by smoke on more than one occasion which could contribute to a much stronger odor. Hope that helps.
I would have put the fireproof mat in the other direction. You want it extended in front of the stove door because that is where you are going to end up with embers landing on the floor.
Hi! Great review- I was torn between this tent and the Luxe megahorn, but I am going to go with the Hercules now. I am also going to purchase the wood stove from Luxe as well. You have convinced me to buy the double-wall piping. Do you have any recommendations for which double-wall piping to get? Thanks, Mitchell
Hey! Thanks for the compliment! I will get some new content up soon. I just moved to the Northwoods of Wisconsin and am planning some fun trips once we get settled in. Cheers!
I'm really interested in this tent. I don't camp in cold weather and never used a floorless tent. For the other seasons, does the snap-in floor (when installed) keep out the bugs and critters? Is the fabric light enough for Summer trips or should I looks for a 3 season tent instead? I can see ventilation won't be a problem. Thx.
If you're not planning on using a wood stove inside it I would looks a 3 season tent. We had it out last weekend with temps in the 50's and a few Carpenter ants came in but it's not totally bug proof. When you run a wood stove the floor underneath melts in winter snd can get muddy so it's easy to clean off that way. I don't use this tent in warm weather. I have a 3 season I use in the warm months and just cook over the fire. Hope that helps.
@@LoneCrowAdventures 1. At altitudes of 7000feet in Pakistan's area of Skardu, the nights in summers in a room require a fan at the maximum. The day temperatures can get to about 30Celsius. UV light is a factor. If the vents are opened at night, will it be ok, or will the tent still be retaining the day heat? 2. Can it be used/converted into a glamping tent? 3. What is its price in USD as of today? Many thanks and a great simple and to the point review!
This is a brilliant review video - it's really helped us solidify our decision in going for the Hercules over the Nortent Gamme, thanks so much! Just a quick question, what size are your camping cots? Just thinking about the logistics of sleeping arrangements with our german shepherd dog - he's a big floofy monster that does kinda take up a fair bit of space
We don't use cots. We use two 30 inch wide pads which we stack on top of each other during the day as a couch. Enough room for two chairs beside them this way. Pretty roomy.
I own the Luxe Hercules and wish I had gotten the Nortent Gamme instead. This tent barely fits 3 people with a stove and other necessary stuff (small table, ice box, etc.) and we are family of four. I thought I would have more space given this is labeled as 8-person tent. My other tent (REI Kingdom 6) has way more usable space than this tent. Just my two cents for those who are looking for a hot tent for a family size.
That was a great review. I plan to get the Hercules & live in it full time in the near future. I'm not sure about getting a wood stove. I'm thinking about getting a Buddy propane heater & a 2 burner camp stove. Getting a battery powered CO2 detector for sure. Your review was the first one I’ve seen of the tent 🏕 in use & showing all the features. Thanks. I’m sure it will work for me & my dog long term. We’re looking for adventure & this looks like the perfect 👌 tent. 👍☮️🌞🌲🏕🌲🐾
Please send me some pictures when you start living in it! It sounds exciting! Where are you planning your baaecamp? Also I'd highly recommend a wood stove, you'd be much happier. A buddy heater would be great if your setting up in an area where is is scare or burn bans are in effect. Send pics to lonecrowadventures@gmail.com Thanks!
Sure do. This is not an affiliate link as Luxe does not have an affiliate program which is too bad. But you can purchase directly from them. luxe-hiking-gear.com/products/hercules-hot-tent-8p-wood-stove-vent You will love this tent!
I have been looking at this tent, and hot tents in general. I do winter backpacking but I'm a little confused. I was under the impression that for winter you want aluminum poles, not fiber glass. If anyone knows, thanks. Great video. You earned a sub
That's one thing I wished was different about this tent. The fiberglass makes the tent very heavy, I think the poles alone weight 14lbs. Not really too much of a consideration considering the whole tent is 31lbs. But 902 aircraft grade aluminum is used for most high end tents when weight is a consideration, obviously not in this tents case. I know my backpacking tent is made out of DAC aluminum and that allows it to be super lightweight. Fiberglass works fine in the winter so far, just heavy.
First video I've seen you do, I ordered one of these tents yesterday and was curious about the headroom getting into it. I"m 6'2" and have their LUXE Megahorn which is hard to get into. NICE JOB on the video, love all the details and honest opinions.
I believe this door arch is higher than the mega horn. I also looked at the megahorn but didn't like that at the time they were not using a ripstop material.
@@LoneCrowAdventures does the non rip stop material mean that once it starts ripping it just goes and goes? I’ve had our tipi up pretty much all summer so he’s been thru all the weather and the material is like paper thin now and my daughter hit it with a cell phone she was tossing to her niece and ripped a huge hole in it and other rips happened as well that I’ve duct taped but yeah it’s toast! Lol
Yes, they are on backorder now. At least it doesn't get cold until October depending on where you live. A lot of hot tents and stoves are on backorder due to the pandemic multiple supply chain shortages.
I've been thinking about that one, especially the Gamme 6, but the price is pretty steep and they are out of stock again. Seems like a lot of hot tent manufacturers are running low on stock during the pandemic.
@@LoneCrowAdventures Yes, the price is high, but.... Strange yes, here i Norway the sportshops are the big winners during the pandemic. They will not go bankrupt.🤣
have you looked at the leg extensions for the stove? Will lift the stove higher. I have the same stove, with the mesh pipe protector which runs cool! I dont have the leg extenders. I have the winnerwell heat proof mat which is quite large. I double it over and sandwich a piece of 1/2 inch plywood between. I find this protects the ground sheet. Also, i store wood under the stove which gives added protection, and helps to dry the wood if needed. I have Luxe megahorn 3
I have not looked into leg extensions for the stove since I think it's a good height for our setup. I'm short anyways so I don't mind this height at all. I like have to the stove down close to the floor for sleeping too.
I have ordered the Hercules tent and am anxiously waiting for it. I believe, at this time, that the wait is going to be a very long , it appears that they are manufacturing these tents as they get the orders, there are none on the shelf.
My stove is the Winnerwell Nomad and they make a double wall for the medium stove which is a 2.5 inch pipe and a 3 inches for the large stove. I'm note sure where to find a 4 inch double wall pipe.
I have an older version that has the jack down low between two doors. I really like it there since the stove (same winnerwell stove) can be moved closer to the wall with the welding matt from harbor freight that I use spring clips to attach at the bottom of the jack.
@@LoneCrowAdventures just looking at the base of the tent, it looks raised up, does the wind not get underneath it a blow into the tent in windy conditions?
With the flooring not sealed, what type of insect protection is there? Have you used it in southern states? I would LOVE to buy this, but concerned. We want a NO MESH tent
Bugs WILL get in. When I use this tent it's cold so there are normally bugs but I've used it early in the year and had the crawling variety of bugs get in. Not a ton but if bugs gross you out I wouldn't choose to use it in the summer.
Thank you so much for reviewing this tent. I have been considering this tent for shoulder season car camping, but there is so little available on it. Do you use a ground tarp in your setup?
Love your style and review. Nicely done! Just wish someone could make something like this with an easy up type of system and also make it taller. I'm 6', so with just the center section being tall then I'd be a bit cramped inside the tent. Thank you though!
Fiberglass poles, a rainfly that doesn't go down all the way to the ground, and someone else mentioned the floor isn't sealed, so insects will get in. I want to like the tent, but I thought those three things should be standard for a 4 season basecamp tent.
It's absolutely awesome! Right now I'm looking for a smaller hot tent for solo over nights. I'm not looking to spend a ton of cash. What's your opinion Onetigris Smokey Hut or Iron Wall? Iron wall comes with a mess inner and partial floor. The Hercules is overkill for just one person but for the two of us we can live comfortably for several days in it! Love your channel BTW. Just discovered you today! You're ranking for Hot Tent search pretty high in the list for me! Good work!
@@LoneCrowAdventures thanks!! I also don’t want to spend too much. I’ll have to check out the two you mentioned, I’m still in the process of researching my next tent. I need something a little bigger than my Megahorn, really just the ability to stand up in it. Your channel is great!! I’ll be checking out some more videos :)
@@LoneCrowAdventures ok, I took a look at the Smokey Hut and the Iron Wall, both are significantly lower in price than the Luxe Outdoors Megahorn that I have. I like the inner liner, I would probably spring for that one. I ended up buying the bathtub floor for my Megahorn, but it took 5 months to arrive because it was on back order.

This was incredibly helpful and fun to watch. Great job and thank you!
Glad I could help! Good luck out there!!!
@@LoneCrowAdventures Thank you for fast reply. I’m also looking at Core tents. I will do more research lol.

I've been looking at this tent for a while now so nice to find your review which, by the way, was done very well, great job, thank you...!
Thanks! Hope you like it. It's a really solid tent!
Great review!! In-depth and extremely accurate!!!
Thanks so much!!!!

@@LoneCrowAdventures I did a good stretch of that trail through the northern Manistee Forest about 2 years ago. Loved it!
Great review....no affiliate link for the tent though?
Sorry I forgot to put it in.
Thanks for filling in the gaps!
@@LoneCrowAdventures Thank you!
Such a nice review, thanks so much for sharing
You're welcome 😊
That's the same comparison that I've been deliberating.
I think we will be going with the Hercules after this review. Thanks so much!
Wow you covered everything in this review! So we’ll done. Thank you!
You're welcome. Hopefully this review video helped you make a choice!
Thanks ,keep up the great reviews

Hello my friend, can you recommend a smaller tent for winter car camping that has enough room to use a buddy heater? Thanks. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Sure, any 4P tent with a double wall would be fine. You want the double wall for condensation control and ventilation. Also get a carbon monoxide detector if using a buddy heater.
@@LoneCrowAdventures thanks, you have been very helpful. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
@@unpavedexplorer338 no problem. Good luck!!!
Son of John / Lillian , 1942. " Mtn Mel " , Ret 59-82 , USN SERE- POW / Desert - Mountain - Jungle Inst ./ VN Advisor. Now W. Colorado since 1987.

Awesome review. We are looking for a new tent, and this helps a lot. Even forwarded it to my wife so she can watch.
Thanks much
I absolutely lovw this tent! Top notch! I hope she approves! Let me know how it turns out for you!!!
I would have put the fireproof mat in the other direction. You want it extended in front of the stove door because that is where you are going to end up with embers landing on the floor.
This is a very good point. We usually also use a catch pan in the front when loading the stove, but good eye!!!!
Nice review Samantha it would make a great car camping tent.ATB
It sure it a nice setup. I love it.
Hi! Great review-
I was torn between this tent and the Luxe megahorn, but I am going to go with the Hercules now. I am also going to purchase the wood stove from Luxe as well. You have convinced me to buy the double-wall piping. Do you have any recommendations for which double-wall piping to get?
Thanks,
Mitchell
I'm not certain that the 3W stove has a double wall option. Might want to look into this first.

@@LoneCrowAdventures Sounds great. 👍 Off to the windy hills and mountains of Wales soon! Stay safe! 👍💥🎩🙏
Is it good for is it good for windy days
Oh yeah it really hold up well on bad weather.
Also this tent would be extremely hot in the summer. Not a great hot weather option. Built for the cold.
@@LoneCrowAdventures thanks for getting back to me - looking forward to seeing more videos of the hercules this winter!
Excellent review, thanks for sharing, greetings from Ireland, stay safe 👍🇨🇮
You too! Glad you enjoyed it!
Solid review. Good job! I'm subd
Welcome to the Crow's Nest. New videos starting to come out now!
Fiberglass works fine in the winter so far, just heavy.
good job on this video very good explanations thumbs up
Thanks. Hopefully it helps out! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
Love this review, definitely going to get this tent !
You'll love it! This thing is great!!!!
Good video. Thanks for the info.
Thanks
Lol
@@LoneCrowAdventures oops rip stop material so yeah what should I be looking for?
Tent looks amazing, my wife approves of the tent because of your great review! But Luxe website estimate delivery till October!
Yes, they are on backorder now. At least it doesn't get cold until October depending on where you live. A lot of hot tents and stoves are on backorder due to the pandemic multiple supply chain shortages.
Check out the
Nortent gamme 4 or 6.
Quit simular, but much stronger and halves the weight.
I've been thinking about that one, especially the Gamme 6, but the price is pretty steep and they are out of stock again. Seems like a lot of hot tent manufacturers are running low on stock during the pandemic.
@@LoneCrowAdventures
Yes, the price is high, but....
Strange yes, here i Norway the sportshops are the big winners during the pandemic.
They will not go bankrupt.🤣
You are so very informative. Ty
You're welcome! I hope this helped.
have you looked at the leg extensions for the stove?
Better presentation than Luxe. Had your review been out I probably would have purchased this over the Megahorn 8p I did buy. Great job.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it!
I have ordered the Hercules tent and am anxiously waiting for it. I believe, at this time, that the wait is going to be a very long , it appears that they are manufacturing these tents as they get the orders, there are none on the shelf.
Yeah, they are having a tough time keeping up with demand because of the 2021 shortages.
What brand & size & where did you get the double wall stove pipe ? Thanks 😊. We’re having a problem finding 4” double wall stove pipe.
My stove is the Winnerwell Nomad and they make a double wall for the medium stove which is a 2.5 inch pipe and a 3 inches for the large stove. I'm note sure where to find a 4 inch double wall pipe.
Thank you
Could this tent have a queen air mattress in it with a wood stove set up
Yes? We use two 30 inch mats side by side which is the same size as a queen.
Where'd you get that double walled pipe attachment?
Got that from the Winnerwell website. I think they might be on backorder at the moment though.
Nice stove jack location on this hot tent.
Yeah the stove jack on this hot tent is in am exceptionally great place.
I have an older version that has the jack down low between two doors. I really like it there since the stove (same winnerwell stove) can be moved closer to the wall with the welding matt from harbor freight that I use spring clips to attach at the bottom of the jack.
Have you experienced heavy winds in this tent ? Thanks.
Oh yes, we are here in the midwest where it is really windy. I've had it put in 60mph gusts with no issues!!!!
Not a ton but if bugs gross you out I wouldn't choose to use it in the summer.
thanks for the great review
Your welcome
Great review. Wow I expected this tent to cost more than it is after watching this, seems like a great price.
I thought it was pretty reasonable when I bought it....
Thank you so much for reviewing this tent. I have been considering this tent for shoulder season car camping, but there is so little available on it. Do you use a ground tarp in your setup?
No, just the clip in floor that comes with the hot tent.
Very well-presented. Just spittin' facts.
Thanks so much! I appreciate it.
Love your style and review. Nicely done!
Just wish someone could make something like this with an easy up type of system and also make it taller. I'm 6', so with just the center section being tall then I'd be a bit cramped inside the tent. Thank you though!
If you're tall you might want to look into a teepee style. They have more generous peak heights
@@LoneCrowAdventures check out RBM Outdoors tents (Russian Bear tents). Pretty heavy, but just about the easiest to setup that I have seen.
Excellent review. Thank you.
Thanks for stopping by to check it out!!!
Nice job. Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I appreciate the support!
How does it do with condensation? Is there a tent you would recommend over this? Unfortunate they don't have a covered entrance
I've never had a condensation issue. Just like any tent, keep sleeping bags away from side walls and you'll be just fine.
@@LoneCrowAdventures why didn't they put a lower sidewall stove pipe exit, & do you think i could have 1 customly installed
Have you done any hammock hot tenting
No not yet but I'd love to get into it!!!
How can they even consider fiberglass poles instead of aluminum
That's a big downside I think!
Fiberglass poles, a rainfly that doesn't go down all the way to the ground, and someone else mentioned the floor isn't sealed, so insects will get in.
I want to like the tent, but I thought those three things should be standard for a 4 season basecamp tent.
What brand is that double wall pipe
That is the Winnerwell double wall. They now make a triple wall pipe I believe that replaced the double wall.
Great video! This is the tent I want next :)
Great review!

@@LoneCrowAdventures well I have a tent stove coming and no tent for it yet and this was a great video on the how to do it with stove camping. I think that I am going to be getting the Hercules unless I find a easier set up. But this was the best that I have found in my little bit of searching. Thank you for the reply
Although I think you should turn your hot pad the other way so it covers the front of the wood stove better ... that's where embers fall out ...
Yes that's a good idea, although I like the extra to the side so I have somewhere to set ecofan and my hot pans to cool as well.
Can you use this tent in the summer? And can you set it up easily on your own?
Yes you can use it in the summer but it's overkill for hot temperatures. It can be set up with one person, but is a lot easier with two people.
@@LoneCrowAdventures with the three doors wouldn’t there be enough cross ventilation?
