- Did you know that there was a Sailor Moon arcade game? Well there is, and it's a classic arcade style beat'em up akin to TMNT Turtles in Time and Final fight, but in the arcade era, it has a lot of competition. Unfortunately, the competition isn't it's only threat. It's biggest issue is what you can't see. This game may have been rushed to market before being finishing? Can we prove that? Can it hold it's own against titles like the Simpsons Arcade and Streets of Rage? But the true burning questions is. Does it hold up today? Let's find out!

Love the "conspiracy look" into the games development. I sometimes have these suspicions about certain games and rarely is there any answer.
Lol. Yeah. I dont usually notice those types of things, but ig can be fun to look into when I do.
Awesome video dude! :)
I love Sailor Moon ever since I was yound when I first discovered it on syndication and I'm a sucker for Beat Em'Up arcade games and I enjoy playing this game when I found out about it and still do to this day, but you're right about it's flaws it has in terms of it's difficulty and how the power-ups and heath-boosts pattern are scarcely structured which makes the player anxious whenever they really need one in dire situations and how it didn't expand the multiplayer into 4-Players like X-Men and TMNT which Konami made them, they would have fun programming Sailor Moon if it was Konami programming it.
That being said, I enjoy the attention to detail when it comes to the backgrounds, the character sprites of the Sailor Scouts & enemies etc. that lives up to the source material. Naoko Takeuchi (The creator of this very franchise) was Supervising Producer within the development of the arcade game.
Thanks! Yeah, I'm the same way having watched Sailor Moon since I discovered the DIC version as a kid. That's why I'm gonna end up reviewing all the games and of all the Sailor Moon games I've covered so far, it is easily the best looking. Plus from the research I've done the best looking of all the Sailor Moon games. Probably better than any of the beat'em ups I've covered so far too.
Love the video. I just wished you elaborated a little more on the removed conspiracy stuff. Especially the unused sprites. Sailor V was supposed to be playable (fcckkkkk!). Tuxedo Mask, Naru, Luna, Artemis, Jadeite and Nephrite all have unused sprites. And there were supposed to be more cutscenes.
Really big missed opportunity. The game runs on the same hardware as DoDonPachi, a bullet hell shooter with 200+ bullets and entities on the screen. So i don't see why they couldn't add just a bit more.
Oh wow. Yeah I didn't know any of that. I didn't find much information on the game when I was looking it up and was only making assumptions based on the few sprites I did find which is what tipped me off in the first place. That's why I call it a conspiracy, since I can't prove any of it or have any real follow information. Your info is quite insightful. Thanks.
SAILOR MOON HERE THANK YOU FOR PLAYING MY FILM GAME
And thank you for having so many unique games to talk about.
@@InfiniteComboReviews YOU ARE WELCOME MY FRIEND
Easily the best Sailor Moon game. It's been on my re-review list for a while ( I reviewed it on my terrible old YT channel lmao) Since you just took it down I'll hold off for a while before I throw my hat in the ring. Fantastic review as well. Btw what editing software do you use?
See, that's funny because this was my re-review of this game. The old video is one of the 6 I want to redo because the audio was soooo bad. I use adobe audition and premiere.
Sweet! Another sailor moon game review!
Yeah, I think I'm going to try and review all the games over time even though a lot are puzzle games and that's not really my strong suit.
@@InfiniteComboReviews There's a weird sailor moon PC game made during the times of the first sailor moon dub.
@@tirofinale1133 the 3D Adventures of Sailor Moon probably. Just guessing though
I found an imported machine a few years back and took Sailor Mercury on a run through the game. It wasn't great but IMO it wasn't bad either more C or low B range.
Yeah, its pretty average all around.
@@InfiniteComboReviews Its weird on a whim. I was browsing through Sailor Moon game videos (I played through R and the arcade game this afternoon) And I found a comment I had made which reminded me of something I had forgotten. I played this a few years before I started watching the anime (not long after I started watching Tekkaman Blade/Technoman which was my first anime) because a local theme park had some import machines in its arcade including this.
I wanted to play as Jupiter because my girlfriend at the time had brown hair and I didn't know anything about the story so I had no knowledge of the awesomeness of Mercury. But someone else was using her so I played as Mars and Venus until they left then used my last couple of quarters (I spent about $2.50 on the game) playing as Jupiter
Based on the company's history, I'd say that you're half there, but it also might be a question of skill.
This appears to be the first time the team _ever_ made a brawler.... and it was likely requested by Banpresto (to carry on the 2d fighting theme of the other games), so they were uncomfortably thrust into a new genre.
Gazelle, formerly Toaplan, made *exclusively* shmup and quiz games before this.
Being shmup developers, the lack of items to use is a pretty glaring omission.
This was the first game they made right after Toaplan folded, it's possible they may have been short staffed and run out of time to implement the missing attacks and other extras as a result.
Also there were some legal issues with their titles, Toaplan split into 3 companies, the others being Cave and Takumi. It's possible some of the development time got eaten up by lawsuits over IPs as well.
Wow. You know your stuff! Impressive! Yeah I was only making an educated guess based on the shallow combat and the fact the special Sprite animations got swapped out for video clips.
I agree that it feels slightly incomplete, but what's there works well enough. I've actually played through this a few times and think it's a solid game.
If you enjoy it, then awesome! I've played through it a number of times with different friends over the years and it's a decent game just not a go to for me with so many other options available.
Friendly fire on beat em up games are stress! I'm a messy brawler so always end up hurting my team members.
I have the opposite problem. All of my friends keep hitting me -_-U
I love Sailormoon Arcade A lot, easy to play, & Hard to Master,, that was Awesome,,,👌👌👌👌
Sailor Jupiter,,❤ my loving waifu A lot,,💕
Have you tried the Super famicom beat'em up?
I'm more of a Sailor Venus kinda guy myself.
They definitely should have used the doll's head for a weapon, big time. But luckily, the Super Famicom and Mega Drive versions, particularly the latter, pack some nice surprises, along with this other fan game I've played called "Sailor Moon Classic" which was a nice fan remake of the first with some improved gameplay (running movements and rolling dodges done like Streets of Rage). I felt this one, despite its superior looks (though not a fan of how they drew one frame of Mercury when you throw enemies), was a poor man's version of those. Not to mention; it's got the worst ending out of all the Sailor Moon games: a credits crawl and a Game Over, and that's it. They couldn't even bother to have a proper ending to reward the player!!
IMO, the level complete tune is the best in the game, I thought the music sucked. Not to mention, the classic Sailor Moon theme song (Moonlight Densetsu) is completely absent, not even the Tuxedo Mask theme is in level 2, where it sounds like they couldn't even get the rights to that theme so they just tried to imitate how it sounds!
Yeah. It's got some serious problems overall. I have played the Super Famicom game but not the Mega Drive game. Looking forward to that one. Also this is my first time hearing about the fan game. I'll have to look into it. Sounds like its using the Beats of Rage engine.
@@InfiniteComboReviews Yeah, it does use the Beats of Rage engine.
I would like to put this on a arcade1up cabinet fosure lol 🤣🤣🤣
Go for it! Post a pic of it on the Sailor Moon subreddit.
@@InfiniteComboReviews I would but see how my money is right now and I just got MVC cabinet back in December that was 530 that means I'm have to buy a whole new cab and mod and that's money but the dream is nice
@@morty215fightclubbringyour7 Dare to dream friend. Dare to dream. I want the TMNT cabinet, but I'm way too poor. Plus I don't have the room.
Why does this look extremely good XD Man why can't we have arcade games like this
It is an amazing looking game. Way better than the super famicom beat'em up.
@@InfiniteComboReviews Well all I can say is it looks like a game I would have drooled for as a kid
