I grew up in Georgia and now live in New York. I remember sitting with my gynecologist in Georgia, planning my birth control options around what would happen if Roe v Wade was overturned and the 6-week ban went into effect. It was essential for me because I have a blood clotting disorder that limits my birth control options while making my period debilitating. My doctor in NYS was shocked when I told her that my Georgia gynecologist was both a doctor and policy/law translator to her patients. God bless the gynecologists still practicing in Georgia.

@@AwezumAlice The point of my comment is to show one of the many ways that abortion is not a black-and-white issue. In theory, banning abortion may seem cut and dry, but the reality is very different. There are pregnant women who want to be pregnant in Georgia who will go to the ER multiple times for pregnancy complications but doctors are unable to care for them because they aren’t dying “yet.” There are women in jail for miscarrying. There are women who are forced to give birth to babies who are missing organs and die painfully shortly after birth. There are pregnant women having medical emergencies on airplanes because they are forced to travel for a medical procedure to save their life. There are women losing their uteruses because their water breaks at 19 weeks but doctors can’t do anything because the woman isn’t dying “yet” so she has to wait at home, passing the dead fetus in toilet and nearly bleeding to death. There are girls who are raped and have to continue the pregnancy because even if they report it to the police, doctors are still scared of going to jail. Look up Amber Nicole Thurman, Candi Miller, Amanda Zurawski, Lauren Miller, Samantha Casiano (who threw up on the witness stand while testifying about her traumatic pregnancy), Anna Zargarian, Ashley Brandt, Kylie Beaton, Jessica Bernardo, Taylor Edwards, Kiersten Hogan, Lauren Van Vleet, Elizabeth Weller and Alyssa Gonzales. Those are real names of real women who have suffered, died, or nearly died from abortion bans.

Just become abstinent? What is wrong with you??? Try saying that to men! I had a retained pregnancy while married. The fetus died in utero. According to these laws, I would be denied a d&c to clear my uterus. I was not miscarrying. Married women, remain abstinent? All women remain abstinent? There goes the population. @AwezumAlice4savethechildren

Actual 2 in 3 early pregnancies end in miscarriages and that's when "people try for pregnancy" regardless of the person with uterus having their periods regularly.
Failing of pregnancies and abortion are completely regular procedures in nature. In fact in nature many animals can actively make a choice to abort pregnancy due to bad circumstances or "being disturbed".

I hold a medical license and when you’re issued it you’re always reminded to protect it without fail because that’s your life and livelihood. The people who write these laws have NO IDEA what they’re talking about, why a woman would need a D+C, or emergency medicine to help her body expel a lost pregnancy. If I had tried to have my children now, both my children and myself wouldn’t be alive. It bothers me that so few News outlets speak of the MEDICAL side of this issue and only name it as “abortion”, when the greatest threat to women’s lives lay in the medical end! For an industrialized nation we have the HIGHEST maternal and infant mortality. This should scream attention in the media, but it remains largely ignored. Our women are last on the list for medical care, and women of color are even lower! If they're so pro life, why the hell don't they clothe, feed, educate and home the many homeless people around that exist in this world, many partly due to being unwanted and not being able to be cared for in the first place? Why do they exclaim "Some people don't deserve babies!" when babies are found in trash bins, bushes and abandoned in toilets, when those babies wouldn't be there in the first place if aborted instead?

If the abortion ban is about the preservation of life, why wouldn't those in power preserve the life of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller? Why wouldn't those in power preserve the quality of life for children born to fatal deformities, illnesses, and defects? Why wouldn't those in power preserve the mental health or physical health of pregnant women who do not want or cannot carry out their pregnancies?

She had a miscarriage. Most miscarriages need medical intervention to make sure no material is left in the uterus. When dead material is left inside the body, it can cause sepsis. Which is an infection in the blood. As sepsis travels through the body it infects organs, shutting them down. It's an odd ban as women could get an abortion for miscarriages prior to RvW just because it's basic medical care.

No she had an appointment for a d&c, missed it because of traffic, the place she went to said they could give her an at home chemical d&c (pills) she took them, not all of the baby was passed from her and she sought help to late.

What happened is, that these women should have had heath care and be under the care for medical professionals when there's a problem, but because medical professionals risk their own lives and licenses (translated: lives of other patients they have, livelihood of heir own families, jail for themselves plus loss of livelihood) they cannot help and cannot be around and even in places with exception rules they MUST wait until no sexistic butt can argue anymore that the life of the pregnant person WASN'T endangered and that's usually the point where survival chances are already abysmal and the survival itself often comes with organ damage.
So don't let anyone tell you that this wasn't a result of dehumanising laws that withheld healthcare and bodily autonomy from pregnant people and doctors rights to practice safely!

What makes this especially pernicious is that Georgia law doesn’t allow a referendum vote on it. So no - it’s not the will of the people. It’s the will of a gerrymandered legislature. I know it’s hard, but I’d be doing everything I could to get the hell out of these states.

Would you still support the man that resulted in the death of these 2 and probably countless other women that we do not know about? My heart goes out to all the women in the world that have to endure the loss of a loved one. May Amber Nicole Thurman memory never be forgotten. By the way, yes I am a man with a heart and compassion for others.

The complete story is not being told. She was late for her appt., so they gave her the pill instead, with the protocols being removed, and then she lay in hospital for like 20 hours and they did nothing.

Waiting till the mothers life is in danger is the problem. Doctors are not allowed to do anything till the mother is at deaths door. At that point it was only a matter of time when someone was going to die.
