You know Rich, as I watch these things I constantly think about the next step I'd take. On this project, we are thinking exactly the same way! Good going man!
I just built one of these last weekend for my lathe. I haven't added the wheels and arms yet, just the frame and mounting hardware. Any advice on the arm material would be appreciated, I too used 1" square tubing for the frame.
wow 2 asshole's who didnt like . aw that tells me they have no skills. awesome piece of work . as i have the wood one that i made but i can only do up to 10 inches wide need to make another so i can do up to 15 inches wide . but then again when i get the vb36 won't need one lol so i guess im off to get some some tubing for now
whats funny is i was looking for a differrant type but as i seen yours . and when you were shaking it well trying to shake it . thats what im going to do bye the way whats the widest you can put on it i turned a vessel last night that was 13 at top had to pull mine back to fit . trying to get as wide as i can
12.5 " looks like if I did some work on the support bars and had smaller wheels I could get 14"-15" I would think if you wanted to go much bigger than 12" a "C" style would be your best choice. or even just a two wheel set up, one on the bottom and one in the back..
Very good job man, excellent idea, thanks for the video.
Great job and a nice tutorial thanks .
The metal one is BETTER than a carter for much less cash! Did you try hd skateboard wheels on that one?
Rich!, fantastic you still have me your lens, congratulations, a greeting from Valdivia Chile's city...

Looks totally strong. Nice video Rich.
Thanks Ted! strong as all getout
Nice job! Now all I need is a welder and a cut off saw...and a bigger garage (shop). Take good care.
well Christmas is coming..?
You got me with the wood glue, until you shook your finger...
Nice Job
Love me some sparks first thing in the morning :-)
ME TOO!

Hello Bart, just any solid material will work for the arms, good hard wood or tubbing , you don't want it to flex to much
Adjustable arms via an inner and outer piece!!! Great strength, and puts Carter to shame😂😂😂😂
That's a solid steady rest! Nice job!
I am sure I will find its week spot and or destroy it some how but it will make me work at I am sure. Thanks
great job, Rich! I'd say that's just a hair sturdier than your last one. great design, what type of wire feed welder did you use?
I use a Lincoln, 140HD with .30 flux core wire, been abusing that welder of damn near 10yr now. Just a bit more stable. hehe
nice steady...
Thanks
Great job - I want to make one of these for my shop smith
That thing sure looks sturdy!
I put all my little 230lb ass could put on it, got the Lathe rocking before the rest it self moved. Thanks Michael
Nice work!
Thanks Willem

Thanks Dale, I am proud of that build, it is the solidest steady rest I have ever seen, I would like to replace the wheels with something a bit softer
