I vaguely remember some kids talking about "metal GI Joes" on the playground in the early 80s, so it was probably these. I never saw them in person, but those playsets and vehicles could have easily been repurposed for real GI Joe figures.
They could have been talking about "Bionic Six" which were mostly-articulated the same as GI Joe figures, the same size, and made of metal.
I bought them at toy r us. Most agree, that was the 1st ninja action figure ever made. years before gi joe had ninjas.
Snake Eyes is a Ninja of the Arashikage Clan,......so not that long before Gi Joe.... just a year.
the ninja one is an awesome sculpt.
These were way before my time, i'm glad I collect GIJOE
I remember these figures. Awesome that your making a video of these. I had the ninja but by the time I started collecting these they were already being pulled from shelves. Thank you Junkman for helping me bring back my childhood memories. Have a great day my friend and thank you again.
In Canada you would find these at K-mart.... or at least the K-mart close to my house that was in the same plaza as the grocery store my mom would shop at.....that meant I spent a lot of time in K-mart....because back in those days you could let your 6 year old run around unsupervised in malls and plazas. Why not? There were at least 20 or more other kids doing the same. No vans with candy in that parking lot!
I remember they weren't riveted together very well, so they were prone to falling apart.
I think we all know how painful that can be. 😄
I had Harley when they came out, bought him on base exchange in South Carolina
Hey Junkman
I got the jeep for my Bday back in 1981. Me and friends had a ball with it on my kitchen floor. We turned it on and just let it go. It bounced back and forth all over the kitchen. We called it the crazy jeep. They just don't make great toys anymore. The 80s rulled
These look pretty cool, made of die-cast metal. Imagine how much it’d probably hurt if it was thrown at you when your brother or sister got mad at you.
My brother and I had these figures, no vehicles. If I remember correctly we got ours at Hills Department Store….. always wanted the Jeep…..
I have two of them. The Ninga and the orange guy with a welding mask. Pretty cool. Great detail too.
I cant remember what all i had but i know i had Captain Eagle and the jeep because the eagle pretty cool how it would clip onto an arm and it seems it could perch on the jeep somehow.
I had some of them when I was a kid. I know for a fact that they were absolutely sold at stores other than Target, because I usually got mine at KB Toys and maybe even Kmart. They also didn't fit in well with the GI Joes because they were a good bit smaller scale (around 2 1/2" vs 3 3/4" for the Joes). There's actually a modern line of Eagle Force figures made by Fresh Monkey Fiction.
Saw one at the time and thought not Micronauts. Plus the gold outfits didn’t scream military. Roller boogie maybe…
My brother and I had some of these toys as kids. We had the Eagle Force base and that tank as well. I liked them. They didn't really scale well with G.I. Joe, but we made it work.
These were peg warmers at my local Laneco for years. Last I remember is that they had them on sale for 3 for $1.00.
I remember I got one of these figures just as I was about to go in the theater to watch Return of the Jedi. For years I tried to remember what that line of figures was called. Now I know. Oh by the way, loving the livestreams with Russ. I laugh so hard that I darn near Piss myself. Hope you guys keep making them for a lot of years to come.👍
Wow! Imagine if Hasbro bought the rights to make a Eagle force toy line and comics book and made a Cartoon done in the GIJoe 80’s style and have them apart of a special elite GIJoe team and the villains part of Corba Elite forces. That would be nice.
I had some of these. Let's see...
I had Savitar, Harley (?), Zapper, Beta Man, two General Mambas, one RIOT shock trooper, Turk (his head fell off), Kayo, and Eagle Mountain (which I had mistaken for the Navarone play set, which nonetheless had many similar pieces). Oh, and I also had one of those vinyl Halloween costumes of Captain Eagle, which I went as one Halloween. Everyone said I was GI Joe, though! And speaking of GI Joe...
I don't clearly recollect, but I think these were a bit too small to be in the same scale range as the Joes. I do recall mixing them with my MASK toys, when those came out.
My experience with Eagle Force was with a life-sized toy weapons set. The logo looked the same and I think you or someone else saw the one that I had in a Christmas catalog.
I wish I could have gotten all these other non-Joes figures to expand my play.
I still have a few of mine with the packages
I had a few of these got mine from Kmart and a store we had called Value City and Rinks. Another store I found them at was called Century . This was in Toledo Ohio. Way before Target got in our area.
I have one still. Some how it survived the wrath of my younger brothers.
I had several of the figures and the jeep. The jeep was the best, great for playing 'rat patrol'. I also liked the RIOT figures much better than the Eagle Force ones. The gold outfits were kind of goofy. Too bad they were such a small scale. That jeep would have worked great with my GI Joes later on.
I don't recall ever seeing them at a Target and I have really strong memories of finding them at Circus World in the Waco TX mall.
Those are actually really cool! Thanks Junkman
I had these figures from Kmart. The new Zica Frssh Monkey Fiction toy company is making 4 inch versions I just reviewed the hidden from the series. MONSTER FORCE is coming out soon. Very promising line. You should check these out. LOVE the retro lines you cover
I remember Hills and Richway around here selling those I believe.
The Eagle Force figures I had most certainly did not scale well with GI Joe figures. The Eagle Force figures were quite a bit smaller than the Joes. I had that Eagle Force headquarters, and all the purple pieces that came with it are the same ones that came with that Navarone playset just in purple instead of yellow.
I remember seeing these at Target but never bought them. Had no idea, until this video, about the larger playsets and the non-cardback packaging.
I didn't see a Target till like 10 years after this
I had one figure from this line. Still have it. But a bit small to fit in with GI Joe.
They were fun, good times.
I remember these but thought they were crap compared to gi Joe. The only place i remember seeing them was a drug store. We didnt have target either. Man that gold satin suite in the commercial.
I had the blue ninja as a kid. I don’t know how I got it and I never even knew what line it was from. I played with it along side my Star Wars figures even though it was much smaller.
I don't think there was many Target's in PA either in most of the 80's yet
I had two of these, not sure who (one had a beret). I can’t remember how they were acquired but I know I never got them packaged. Might have been from older cousins. They were a neat idea. Would have been awesome with vehicles and playsets. Now, I have yet to watch the video yet, so I hoping Junk Man don’t blow my mind and show vehicles and playsets with em.
Got to watch the video. Besides the main playset, the rest of the vehicles looked cheesy. Mego did not learn from the change in articulation from Star Wars to GI Joes.
Metal figures were cool
I don't remember these. I don't think they wanted to sell them very bad being a target exclusive in the 80s. Didn't know target existed in the 80s
I think I had one of these guys, General Mamba.
I'm sure I had these at the same time or just before I got my first G.I. Joes. I had quite a few of these. I'd forgotten them. Not surprisin, considering they were only around a short time. I really liked them, though. Really loved the comics on the card backs. No idea whatever happened to all of mine.
I got one of those and the day I got him I played with it in a sandbox and for some reason it made the gold color turn into a copper color and I never got any more of them.
I don't think they were exclusive to Target. I got my figures and Eagle Island playset at BEST department store. I would get Star Wars toys every Christmas, except in 1981 because I had already bought all the Star Wars toys that year prior to Christmas, so I chose Eagle Force.
Had a few of them. The paint would rub/flake off easily
Capt. Eagle kinda looks like your BFF.
I remember these my friend had these figures and the playset too great video review
Just bought a mint on card this week!
Geesh...these are really frickin' awesome...🤘🏼💯✔️ Like, I like'em so much I wanna put up my arse like a suppository...💁🏻
I rem these god damn things
I has some
I prefer my Goldie Hawk without lipstick. I don't want my wife to find out I got that figure ..
I don't know about these,
it's kinda weird.
I wouldn't mind having the Eagle Island playset, though.
I heard of these, but I never knew they were metal. 🎃 🤷♀️🤷♂️
Thanks for the video
I had the Eagle Force Kung Fu guy I wanted the ninja but never got him!
@That Junkman (Idi) pronounced:[ EE d ee ]. Is a male ''Swahili'' name. That is a significant name for people of the Muslim faith...As it means born during the (Idd festival), an annual religious and cultural celebration to mark the end of the Islamic holiday ''Ramadan''. ''Amin or Amine'' (Arabic: أمين Amīn) is an Arabic male name which means "devoted, honest, straightforward, trusty, worth of belief (believable), loyal, faithful, obedient". So in other words, the complete opposite of ''Idi Amin''.
General Mamba? "Mamba" is derived from the Zulu word "Imamba". In Tanzania, a local Ngindo name is Ndemalunyayo ("grass-cutter") because the specie of Snake was believed to supposedly clip grass. Yes, a white man with a Zulu name.🤔 But I'm kind of surprised that Hasbro never tried to acquire the rights to Mego's ''Eagle Force'' line. And converted the (Eagle Force and R.I.O.T) characters and vehicles/accessories over to their 3.75 inche (G I Joe: A Real American Hero) line. It would have been cool to see ''Dynamite Entertainment Comics''...Do a mini series where the ''Joe Team'' must join forces with ''Eagle Force''. In order to stop the combined forces of ''COBRA'' and R.I.O.T. Oh, by the way! 💡I can kind of see some World War 2 era (Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos) influences in Mego's ''Eagle Force'' line. Which is not too surprising. Do to the fact that the idea for the ''GI Joe Team'' came from a pitch between (Hasbro and Marvel). Not long after Hasbro decided to revamp their G.I Joe toyline and launch a comic together with Marvel. Marvel dredged up an old ''Nick Fury'' script and reworked it to a new concept. So..[The Gi Joe Team is essentially a more Militarized Version of Shield]. And [Cobra is a very minimally reimagine Hydra]. But do you know what's really strange? 👹Now, this may very well be entirely coincidental? But on the season two episode of the Hanna-Barbera (Godzilla animated series) form December 1, 1979 titled "The Island of Doom". Godzilla and the crew the ''Calico''...Tangle with an international terrorist organization called "Cobra". This (Hanna-Barbera Cobra) had created a secret base on an uncharted Island in the South Pacific. And stole Uranium to make nuclear weapons. And they also had blue uniformed troops, tanks, artillery, and its own Airforce. And even a few characters that were kind of similar to ones in ''Cobra Command''. This episode aired three years prior to the 1982 launch of Hasbro's (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero) line. However, this "Cobra" organization may have been inspired by ''The Red Bamboo'' Japanese (赤イ竹 Aka i take). The terrorist organization featured in the 1966 Godzilla film, (Ebirah, Horror of the Deep) AKA (Godzilla vs.The Sea Monster).
Captain brown 😑
I like this video. But once again, you make a video about this line that most people have never heard of, but you won’t make a video about the Sgt. Rock figures? What gives Junkman? Why? Why? Come on!! Make a Sgt. Rock video!!
Wait, what?! There are Sgt. Rock figures? I was obsessed with G.I. Combat and Sgt. Rock in the early 80's.
